The first time I used it, my new Nuvi 855 worked well for about 7.5 hours. At that point it froze. The unit was extremely hot to the touch. I had to reset it by removing the battery and putting it back in. All in all I am pleased with my purchase.

Could use more basic features such as ability to show route beforehand. If you want to save money and pay a little more at first to get live traffic feeds with diferent unit that has it built in. Accesory to allow the unit to do that is expensive, might as well get a new GPS. Mine has frozen up a couple times as others have noted. Price could be cheaper with the features it has and doesn't have. Just glad Igot this one from I gift certificate I got. Oh, the voices offered are not as well spoken as other brands I have had.

Used on trip to Toronto and New York with audio transmitted over FM radio. MP3 audio player worked great. Voice lane-change Instructions where very clear, timely and extremely helpful -until you get into the big city. The FM interference makes it necessary to find a clear frequency which is nearly impossible ahead of time or turn the internal speakers on before you get into heavy traffic or you'll lose your voice instructions when you need them most-like me in Manhattan on St Paddy's day!. Voice activation in a car at highway speed is tricky due to loud road noises, had to repeat commands at least once. Works great at lower noise levels and when you speak clearly. I gave a low score for Quality because my 1 month old unit is not aquiring satellites anymore. I sent unit in for repairs today. I'll report later how the repair experience went.

Garmin gps are good products. I thought that the 855 would work better than the 750 gps. I did not realize that it did not have blue tooth capabilty. The remote control sometimes work. I have to repeat myselves a couple of times. But overall it gets me to where I need to go.

I purchased the nuvi 855 for the speech recognition feature. Lousy thing is, its doesnt work. Maybe 30% of the time when I say 'city', it will give me city. Usually the numbers work, except lots of times it wont go to 'Street' when it says 'correct'. And the most useless part is when you get to 'Street' (if you ever do), after spelling the street, you might get it 5% of the time. So speaking is basically a total waste of time. Using the unit by hand is great. No problem whatsoever. However, I could have purchased a less expensive, non-speech unit. Another problem I have is with the Garmin site, and the free map download. I couldnt download to my unit, it took a lot of space on my computer, and was a another waste of time. As long as I go to older streets, press buttons manually, its a nice unit. I cant believe all the 5 star ratings. They sure fooled me. Ordering from here was good. Got the product in decent time. Not worth returning for defective speech.

This is the first GPS unit I've ever owned and I'm still amazed with what it can do and the accuracy it has. Installation and set up was a breeze and programming addresses is intuitive, The free one time map update took about 8-9 hours as they said it would so I started it before I went to bed and it was done when I got up the next day. The installation of the downloaded maps took another 1-2 hours. All went smooth without a hiccup. I love the product and look forward to using it on two extended trips I have planned next month.

Replaced my Magellan 4250 with this unit and couldn't be more pleased. Satellite acquisition is blazing fast compared to the Magellan. The display is utter eye candy. Feature rich but easy to configure. For less than $200 it is an amazing deal.

I purchased this unit NEW from your company, but when I went to get the free NuMaps as per the guarantee Garmin told me that the Unit had been used in July, passed the 60 day time limit to update the map from the first time you turn it on and acquire a sign. I thought something was odd, when shipped, the unit was sitting in an unsealed box without any plastic wrap. your company should not be turning the units on if they are selling them as new units, and returned or restacked units should not be sold as new either. This causes problems for the final customer, not to mention an increased lack of trust with your company. Garmin did provide the free map update after I provided a proof of purchase with a recent date. When I buy something new I expect it to be new, unused and in its original sealed packaging.

The problem with this unit is that it freeze sometimes. It seems to be related to a problem with the battery, or it may be a bad os update. They should fix this ASAP. When it is plug it doesn't seems to have the same problem. I may have to returned it if the problem is showing too often. Too bad, I like the rest of it though.

This was available at deep discount from the MSRP and was a great deal at the price. Good set of features - like the auto-on and auto-off especially. The screen refreshes more slowly that other GPS units I have had. The voice recognition works OK, but I find it just as distracting as buttons because you have to look at the screen to make your selection. The battery seems to run down quickly, even when off, but that isn't an issue when its in the cradle and powered.

this is a fantastic unit except that it freezes up way to much... I use the unit every day for business and it locks up at least once per day, to the point that i have to remove the battery from the unit. I have always used garmin and this is the first unit that i have had with problems.

Some function changes that I don't like. I like my old Garmin 680 much more. I think I got a lemon product from Tigerdirect. Battery won't last more than half hour. System freeze some time.

I highly reccomend this gps! It works really great and has lots of cool features. No issues at all. Only tiny complaint is the letters are a litle smaller than other Garmins I had and it makes it a lot harder to type.

The nuvi was a good buy at the price this site has it. In addition, you can create routes in street and trips and import them using a GPX file to it. The software is a bit buggy and it is hard to get in touch with tech. I sent them three emails and waited on the phone for 20 min of the 35 min wait they told me I would have but the person I talked to was very helpful. Im not impressed by the voice but it works if you need to. Good product the Music player works great with the FM modulator. In addition, the POI (points of interest) is awesome to find something. And easy to save to your favorites. I like having it in the car.

I downloaded tha updated the maps and firmware with no problem. The voice recognition works flawlessly and the maps are very accurate. The free games that come with it are great. However I'd suggest buying a 110 volt charger if you will be doing much with it inside your house. (And you will.) The battery does not hold a charge for long. (Thus the 4 stars on the quality.) The supplied cable will charge the battery from your computer, but you cannot access anything on the unit while it's plugged in to your computer. Also I'd get some screen protectors to prevent the screen from getting scratched and to keep fingerprints from smudging up the screen. All in all, very satisfied. This site was great too. Got the unit to me in good time and a good price.

Purchased this Garmin for my wife for Christmas. We've used several other brands in the past including various Tom-Tom and Magellan units. We haven't put this unit through all of its paces, but the response time for rerouting when you either go off course or miss a turn is blazing when compared to the other units. We have found it to be accurate so far but, as I said, we haven't really given it a rigorous test. Downloading and installing the newest maps was a breeze, although that shouldn't be tried over a dial up connection as the download exceeds 2GB.

Very happy with the product. The voice activated remote control works pretty good. not perfect but better than expected. No problem acquiring satellites and recalculates routes at lightning speed.

I could not believe Garmin's top of the line GPS unit was being sold for such a low price! This is normally a $700 retail price unit. This GPS's performance is multitudes faster than my Garmin Nuvi 265T unit was. When I plug the Nuvi 855 into my PC's USB port Windows instantly recognizes the device. My Nuvi 265T took anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes for my computer to recognize it. The Nuvi 855 also calculates and recalculates routes a LOT faster than the Nuvi 265T. I love the fact that this unit doesn't turn off. I hated that lengthy boot up time on the Nuvi 265T.
