Cons: -Price could be a bit lower-Unknown reliability

Pros: -Size-"Green"
Comment:
What can I say... as far at "green" 2TB drives this one is the best of them all I think. I bought 2 to put in my DNS-320 (FW 2.0) in RAID-1, just slide them in, format and good to go. I really wanted the 3TB but the price is still too expensive and it is not yet supported by the DNS-320. My only gripes are the price which I think could be a bit lower (I paid 70-10 MIR) and the unknown reliability...

Cons: A little bit nosier than WD green, but it is almost inaudible.

Pros: much faster than seagate LP and WD green.
Comment:
I like it so much for its speed. Its performances are closer to somewhere between mid-range and high-end hard drive. At $69.99, the 5K3000 could prove fantastic value for money.

Cons: Vibration higher than other models

Pros: Fast for a low RPM driveVery quietLow power consumptionCheap, even before rebate
Comment:
Like most low RPM models (this one is 5940 RPM) it's power consumption and noise output is excellent. If also find it to be faster than the WD Green and Samsung F4 drives that I own. If you're on a budget and need an O/S drive and lots of capacity, this is the one to get.

Comment:
I picked up 2 of these to put in my DNS-323 NAS I am not using RAID in the NAS and just have the 2 drives seperate for media storage. So far no issues and the drives have performed well. They were on sale when I got them and are worth every penny.

Great mass storage drive from Hitachi. I'm really happy with this drive so far, it's been running smooth 24/7.

Cons: -Small delay when waking-up after the drive stopped spinning

Pros: -Great capacity/price ratio, especially when on sale-Quiet
Comment:
This is a great drive for mass storage, the price is hard to beat when on sale. It isn't the fastest nor the biggest available, but the price per GB is amongst the lowest. The lowered rotation speed helps keeping it cool.

Cons: MIRs...lol, mine took quite a bit of hassle to get $10

Pros: Cheap $60* (after MIR)
Comment:
There is a difference in speed imo between eco drives and normal 7200RPM drives and especially noticable when transferring say, 500GB of data. It takes a substantially longer amount of time. The good news is, these drives are just cheap storage for files I don't access often and these Hitachis don't have the absurd head parking problem of Green drives which require you to disable (otherwise you're looking at a dead drive in a year).

Cons: Hitachi rebates are bulls*it

Pros: Good Speed.
Comment:
Good Hard drive especially for the 69.00 I got it for during a sale. If your worried about the slower speed of this one I haven't even noticed a difference from my other WD Black drives. Only downside was the $10 rebate I was supposed to get but the third party company that does the rebates gave me some bulls*it reason not to give it to me.

Pros: InexpensiveSilentRuns CoolHuge Storage
Comment:
I bought this drive for a drobo that I purchased. So far it's been working great and I have no complaints at all. I have heard that the warranty process through Hitachi isn't as good as it is as Western Digital, but not knock on wood I won't have to test those waters.

Got this for $50. I'm happy because it performs just like it should. Also, this drive stays very cool (~30 deg C).

Pros: Low priced product - very competitive.

Received the drive as OEM plugged it in and it worked fine! I ran SpinRite 6.0 on it (which everyone should do when getting a new drive) and found no problems, everything passed great!

Can't get much better for the price. I got two of these for 70 each, plus a ten dollar mail in rebate on each one. Definitely a good deal for the amount of storage you get.

I have four desktop Hitachi drives and never a failure. The MacBook Pros I own/have owned came with Hitachi drives - no problems. What I have had fail on me are Seagate and Western Digital. I have no idea what the future holds for the newest drive I purchased but based on past performance I don't anticipate any problems.

Bought 3, one dead within3 months, JUST died on me. hopefully RMA isnt too painful. got most of my data off, but some of it was corrupted. over 700 bad sectors.other two still seem OK. kinda sad because i got this as a backup drive, and it failed during my transition to a new raid array (aka the time i DIDNt have two copies) This review was modfied by poster @ 06-13-11 07:14 PM

Cons: - One out of three failed, but probably just bad luck.

Pros: - The ones that work seem reliable, passing Hitachi's diagnostics and badblocks without any problems.- Inexpensive.
Comment:
I got three of these, one of which was faulty. Considering that three is a small sample size, I'm willing to believe that the true failure rate is lower than 33%. The two that did work seem to perform just fine. Some more detailed observations are below. The two that did work seem solid. They both passed the tests in Hitachi's diagnostic tool, as well as two passes of badblocks. HDTune benchmarks of the two drives are slightly different but within experimental error. Average min write of roughly 56 MB/s, max write of roughly 127 MB/s and average write of roughly 93 MB/s.The one that failed had a very noticeable "grinding" sound when in use, and the SMART report showed over 2 million raw read errors within the first 60 seconds of use. I'd suggest that anyone else with these drives listen closely for clicking or grinding noises and keep an eye on your SMART report to make sure that the same thing doesn't happen to you.

Cons: - I think it's Hitachi or Samsung that have the highest failure rate.

Pros: - Price/Quantity

If I remember well it was 70$ only for 2Tb so I ordered this for someone. Can't get 2Tb for anything less. As for me I have a Seagate LP 2Tb for this price few months ago or was it 60$ during boxing day I don't remember.

Cons: -Only 32MB cache

Pros: -1.87TB for well under $100-5940RPM, SATA3-667GB platters x 3
Comment:
Bought this drive to complete a system for my sister who purchased all the parts. So far it seems to be a fast and solid drive thanks to the higher density platters. It is even noticably faster than my 1TB WD Black FALS drive. Here's a tip...Regardless of what they say, always install hard drives horizontally, never vertically if you want it to last long. My only grip is it has only 32MB of cache. My old 30GB IBM GXP has 32Mb of cache and it's like over 10 years old. This drive should have 2GB of cache at a 1000:1 ratio not 32 Megabytes! At a minimum, it should have 256 or 512 Megabytes of cache given RAM chips are dirt cheap nowadays.

I have always had fairly good luck with Hitachi drives , just one RMA in over 20 spindles over the years and one dead drive way back 10 years ago.I bought a pair of these to add in and seem to sustain 80 MB/s with ease with ext3 file system under Ubuntu 10.04 and plugged into SATA I STA links so I am pleased enough with that. Now my disk to disk speed matches my gigabit networking which also can now move files much faster. All in all a thumbs up

Bought this about a month ago for 70$ and so far happy with purchase. Did a lot of research on Seagate VS WD VS Samsung VS Hitachi. While everyone seems to have an opinion on which is best, they all seem to have a pretty high fail rate. You either get a dud or you don't. I have my fingers crossed mine is fine. Been running almost at full capacity for a month now no problems. Its RPM is as fast as the Samsung (ie not 5400) which helps with performance, has 32MB cache (I think some of the others have 64) but I believe uses the safer write method like WD unlike a Samsung. Speed doesn't feel all that different from some of the 7200 drives I have, might be slower but is used as media storage so who cares. Movies, music all work fine on it. Operating sound can't be heard over fans, if turn fans off, no more noisy than any of my other HD I have in my case.Anyway a great bargain for cost VS GB. I recommend getting NCIX VIP and/or pay additional for shipping insurance for any HD. I have only ever had one dud, but from my experience if you get one you will know very quickly (i.e. if it is going to fail, most will fail right away, or in a few days). This will allow you to easily exchange it for a new one to try again. Anyway good luck!Rating 5 stars, will revise if anything ever goes wrong.

paid $60 and it has a $10mir to boot! Hitachis are not as bad as their rep would lead you to believe. I have a system running one of these as the storage drive, and a 7200rpm Hitachi as the OS drive with zero probs.
