Great media hard drive. The prive for 2tb if space can't be beat. I bought this one and Western Digital Green, the Hatachi is my personal favourite. Great value.

Hitachi's have had a bad rap, but they've been working fine for me. both 1TB and 2TB versions work without a hitch. The 1TB is super quiet and runs cool. The 2TB one is a bit louder, cause of the increased # of platters. Purchased for $159, and $30 rebate (which both arrived). Umm, stores a lot of stuff

Pros: Fast, cheap.

I have this in a Mediasonic 4-bay enclosure, and it's been running for a month with no problems. After reading some of the other comments, I was prepared, for a loud, hot-running drive, but I haven't noticed any extra noise to speak of, and the Mediasonic's fan doesn't seem to be running any higher with this installed. Quite happy with it so far.

Cons: A bit noisier than some

Pros: Huge capacity at 2 terabytes
Comment:
I purchased two of these drives as upgrades to go into the DRobo and so far, they seem to work just fine. Not sure if the noise is coming from the hard drives or the cooling fan in the DRobo. No drive failure so far. The installation was unbelievably simple and easy. Just eject the old drives and slip in the new drive. You must change only one drive at a time and wait for the DRobo to update  before changing another drive. Got it for an amazing price to top it all off.

Cons: Mail in rebate was a pain, Deskstar has a reputation for reliability, Runs pretty hot

Pros: Huge Storage, Pricing, Relatively Quiet
Comment:
I bought this hard drive on a boxing day blow out for 170 bucks plus a 30 dollar mail in rebate in the form of a VISA card. So if this comes on sale again I'd definitely recommend buying it, I'm regretting not buying another myself at that price! Installation was simple, computer recognized it with no problems, and it runs quietly and efficiently. For the money I could not have found a better deal. I bought this drive to back up my data. But this drive is very loud. 500G version was very quiet compare to this 2Tb version. But overall drive is very good! Will buy Hitachi again.

Seriously, so far there is absolutely not to like about this drive. I installed easilly it and put Windows on it and it is very quiet and noticibly faster than the WD hard drive I used to use as my boot disk. Bought on sale it was ridiculously cheap for a 7200RPM 2TB hard drive. What's not to like?

Cons: LoudHot

Pros: 2TB7200RPM - Seems fast
Comment:
Where to begin? She's hot, makes a lot of noise, and moves real fast. But seriously, I woke up at 3AM the other night thinking that somebody was outside my window cutting down trees with a chainsaw. It soon became clear that the noise was originating from the PC. What a strange sound, I thought, and wondered if a cooling fan had failed. I had never heard that sort of noise before. The PC case was vibrating, almost singing. As it happened Foldinguhome was writing out core data, which involves a lot of intensive disk activity.Fortunately, the drive features "AAM" which I take to mean "acoustic abatement mode" (could be wrong on that). This reduces the noise level dramatically by slowing the movement of the head actuator, to the point where the noise level is tolerable for normal use (not quiet applications though). Unfortunately this also increases access times significantly so performance will suffer, particularly with random/nonlinear access patterns.Enabling AAM is done using the Hitachi Feature Tool, but it's not exactly clear how from the provided documentation. You must set the power-saving setting value to 191 or less (but not zero which is the default no-power-saving mode). This drive reached a scalding 49 degrees (SMART) under sustained load in my open-air external dock. This is definitely not a drive to install in a sealed, unventilated enclosure. Hitachi specifies a maximum operating temperature of 60 degrees, which would be easily exceeded in my own enclosure. In my PC case, with a fan blowing over the drive, temperatures range from 30 to 34 degrees. Overall the drive is very good, with a couple of shortcomings that can be overcome.

Cons: Heat, 5-platter design, loud on AAM performance mode

Pros: Speed, Capacity, Price/GB
Comment:
Bought this drive during sale for $160 before MIR. Rounds out to less than 8c/GB. That's the biggest selling point of this drive. The sequential read averages 120MB/s so it's already the fastest of my drives. At a huge 2TB capacity, that's a winner. The biggest problem with this drive is the heat output. Working outside of the case with no airflow it reaches 45C on the sensor and it's scalding to touch for over 5 seconds. Inside my case with a 120mm fan drawing air over it, the idle temperature's at 34C and is comfortable to hold.Note: I had to adjust the AAM setting to silent mode for the read/write clicking noise to go away. Otherwise it sounds like a seagate 7200.10 (loud).

Cons: Loud

Pros: Huge Capacity at 7200rpm
Comment:
I have 3 of these drives in a Drobo and boy are they loud. Frustratingly loud, actually. Idle noise is acceptable, but read/write operations are insanely loud.Would have preferred quieter drives, but at this size there currently isn't anything else at 7200rpm.Can't comment on reliability, but they all worked straight out of the box, so that's a plus.
