Cons: interface

Pros: Price, storage
Comment:
Really good pad for a good price. I bought it went it was at 259.99$. The pad is equiped with usb port and SD card slot and really enlarge the storage capacity. The interface and the application are hard to change/place. When under 300$, this pad cannot be beaten.

Quick Summary: Save your $$$ and hold out for the next generation of tablets or a windows 8 tablet or convertible... They have got to be better than this.I'd like to preface this review with an "I love technology" comment. I usually don't like to complain, and tend to downplay gadgets shortcomings, but my experience with this tablet hasn't met my expectations. After decades of experience with "wintel" systems, and months of debating if a tablet was worth it or not, I jumped at the $279.99 special on this one. My expectations were that a tablet having a "clean and light" android OS would make it suitable for 80% of what I do on a computer already and would be snappy and fast... My expectations have gone sadly unmet. This tablet ships with android 3.1, but (currently) updates to 4.0.3. I'm not sure who to blame exactly (google or Lenovo?), but the OS feels "half baked." There are numerous minor annoyances such as dropping wi-fi connections upon resuming requiring you to turn the connection off and on again. Another annoyance is that I have also been unable to set up a connection to my corporate exchange server to sync my calendar, etc. due to some sort of error that seems related to the Android OS. There are numerous other minor OS annoyances, such as buggy apps (facebook among others) that lead to a disappointing experience. In terms of responsiveness, I have had an atom Eee pc from 2009 that struggles away with with Windows 7, but this thing with the Tegra 2 setup annoys me more. I ran it a few days without encrypting it, and it just seemed laggy once a few applications were running, sometimes not responding for a few seconds. After I enabled encryption (which requires a factory reset to disable) the performance slowed further. I was hoping to do a few things such as watch AVCHD camcorder footage at 24Mbps and review RAW files taken with my SLR camera. Both tasks required aftermarket software. The tablet couldn't keep up with the AVCHD footage at all, and the RAW file viewing is disappointing also.A previous review noted the SIM card slot for WWAN connectivity... If you truly want to enable this, you will need to purchase the precisely correct aftermarket WWAN card as well as antennas as this model doesn't have the card OR antenna leads. See more info here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfTesDJ0JKo and here: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-slate-tablets/3G-upgradable/td-p/515331/page/14, and here: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-slate-tablets/3G-Upgrade-COMPLETED-on-183927U-64GB-PICS-INSIDE/td-p/545681/page/3. I haven't managed to get this working yet because I didn't get EXACTLY the right WWAN card on ebay my first go. I ended up ordering antennas from digi-key.Anyway. Save your $. If you're really amped for a tablet, see if you can hold out for a while and see how the reviews are for the the WIN8 ones, wait for the next generation on Android, or *gasp* get an apple product.

Cons: It is relatively heavy. I would say I don't read on this device as much as I expected to because of this point.

Pros: I like the business oriented design of this tablet.OTA upgrade to ICS available now.
Comment:
I purchased this tablet when it was on sale for $300. I wanted a tablet that would be capable of running a recent version of Android, and is good to read books and browse the web on.After upgrading to ICS, it's responsive and has not shown any software issues. As others have noted, the 16GB variant of the Thinkpad Tablet doesn't come with the digitizer(pen). I got the pen for the tablet too, and tried it with an app called Quill, but unfortunately I find it too difficult to write for more than a few paragraphs. It's good enough to do little annotations on pdf. The battery takes an extraordinary time to charge even when it is in stand-by mode i.e. screen turned off. I haven't owned any other tablets, so I cannot make a comparison with other tablets. For my needs (reading, browsing the web), I would buy something a little lighter next time.

Cons: Doesn't come with digitizer pen, have to purchase that separately

Pros: Great screen, digitizer function, screen lock button.
Comment:
Great tablet. Not the lightest, but it's definitely aimed at business rather than lightweight. Battery life is increased due to this. It has a full size SD slot, a SIM slot as well if you want to put in a 3G card, HDMI out and a full size USB port, as well as the now standard micro-USB for charging and data transfer. The full size SD card slot is nice, since you can get SDHC cards for a lot less than the microSD cards.I got mine on special with the folio case. Works great for my hour commute to read e-books and watch videos on!
