one hundred% Silent. No clicking humming or something.Sturdy complete metal casing.1TB for a inexpensive price tag.1 year components and labor warranty.Amazing R/W speed. Each eSata and USB (Firewire on drive to usb converter cable)White light indicates data travel.Runs cool. 931GB, not a consumer's TB. (expected but nevertheless disappointing)Somewhat massive, the size of a paperback book.five Lbs. Externally powered. 3 Ft power cable, three Ft connection cables. Not meant for travel, as it's large and heavy, however the casing is durable sufficient that it would probably nevertheless work if it was dropped.Causes pc to lock up even though transferring data. (for a few seconds at a time) Fantastic obtain, I'd buy another if I required the space, but so far I'm happy.On/off switch on the back. Could be a pro or con as you have to manually turn it on or off, but will not randomly power down. The random lock-ups in the course of data transfer are troubling, but the longest one has lasted was 8 seconds during an eSata transfer, but with how rapid the transfer speed is I can't complain.Have only utilized it with Vista so far, planning to attempt it out with each XP and 7 soon.

None, eSATA failed to recognize in my Windows 7 64 Bit. The cause I use this HD simply because I don't have USB 3.. This drive help eSATA transfer which is a lot quicker than USB two. in transfer speed. I will attempt a a different brand to replace this drive. This drive doesn't work on my windows 7 64 bit. eSATA failed to recognize. I did some investigation. Some people recommend to alter the bio's SATA setting from RAID to AHCI. On the other hand I didn't attempt this system mainly because I will need to have to reinstall my whole technique after the adjust.

Works with Win 7. eSATA is rapid. Sleek style and cool to the touch. Disappointed that Never ever Down Application is nonetheless not obtainable for Win 7 however. I bought unit thinking they may possibly have figured that out by now. So I just use it for additional storage proper now but truly wanted it to clone notebook hdd.

Runs quiet.Operating great by way of esata with our directv dvr. Adore the capacity and speed.Quality construction. None. Can be utilized as a night light...which I don't want.A switch to turn off the energy light would be nice. Or a considerably smaller energy light. I wonder how a lot power one particular could save if all our electronics did not have lights glowing all the time...

It works. A lot of storage. Quite rapid working with eSata. Runs cool to the touch. I say it performs since this drive is not supported with Windows 7 64 bit. It's been tested by iomega on 32bit Windows and functions fine. I'm working with 64 bit and haven't knowledgeable any issues but. An Iomega help web page states "might or may well not operate appropriately with 64-bit editions of Windows 7." I would not have bought this drive if this info was identified beforehand. There are several in the iomega forums using 64 bit that have had problems. Your mileage may possibly vary. Also...I would have appreciated a longer eSata cable. According to an on-line chat with an iomega support rep, none of the computer software offered as a free download with this drive from iomega will function with 64 bit. In reality the rep stated that iomega has no Win 7 64 bit computer software for this drive. If your utilizing 32 bit then your in luck. Manufacturer Response:We're pleased that this drive is functioning for you. We do understand your aggravation with the supported software program available, at the moment we are functioning on both Windows 7 and 64-bit help for all of our backup oriented worth-add computer software. Here is a hyperlink to the currently tested web page: https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/iomega_na_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqidA line from the above mentioned FAQ: "For most current Iomega products, Windows 7 contains the drivers essential to recognize the Iomega drive and will automatically assigned it a drive letter in My Personal computer or Explorer."All current challenging drives that use regular interfaces such as FireWire 400몸, USB, and eSATA have drivers constructed in to the Windows 7 64-bit OS. We are cycling all present products by way of testing, which requires a considerable amount of time, but we do count on all normal interfaces to be totally supported by this OS.

None due to the fact my system failed to detect this difficult drive on ESATA port! This hard drive works fine when I connect by means of USB cable. Nonetheless ESATA connection has considerably greater transfer speed. If you don't have USB three., ESATA is the better choice for you. Beware! I am running windows 7 64 bit program with default Bios setup on RAID instead ACHI. I did lot of investigation on my situation. As the outcome I require to set my bios RAID to AHCI from bios setup before I use this challenging drive(I want to reinstall my complete program). Check your system setup prior to you obtain this product.

Unlike some drives, this comes with a compatible eSATA cable--and it functions when this cable is employed. Minor stuff: I attempted this on a WinXP build, and it seemed a bit slow there with eSATA transfers. Indicator light is on rear side of the drive--would be greater to have it on front where the user can see it. Soon after RMA'ing two Fantom drives in a row, it is refreshing to obtain hardware that has been tested. Fantom's weak excuse was, of course, that it couldn't be their hardware, and even if it was eSATA is far also new to be trusted. Funny that the IOMega drive worked straight out of the box...

-It came formatted as NTFS and I copied 700 GB to it over a couple of days. The case is very properly constructed and doesn't get hot regardless of operating it for hours copying information to it.-No Crapware. Iomega did a wise factor and left it up to the user to determine if they want to use their backup software program and provide the info to download it from their web page.-three year warranty, as opposed to the 1 year on most external drives. I'm hoping I won't have to use it Integrated power cable and USB cable are very brief. I haven't tested it with eSATA but I'll be acquiring a personal computer with that port in a couple of months.

Functions quite well, I have the 500 version and have been working with it for very a though so I purchased this 1 Terabyte with superior expectations. Its been superb, simply plugged it in and went to work. Presently I only have a USB two port obtainable so I can not speak to the Esata speed, but I have not had any problem with it and its specifically what I need, huge offline storage I can rely on. None Would be beautiful to have an optional rack you could get to stack many of these with each other on for asthetics.

-Great amount of storage for the value-Strong metal style-Stand integrated for vertical mount-ESATA cable integrated-Quiet None. -It runs at around 38'C at load, but I have no other temps to compare that also. Anything to retain in mind at least.-Pre-formatted to NTFS @ 931GB-Makes use of about ㅌW at the wall when in use (much lower when not spun up)Here are some random transfer rates over ESATA:-Transferred 104GB from drive to personal computer in 32 min ࿗MB/s)-Transferred 11GB from laptop or computer to drive in 2 min ࿽MB/s)-Transferred 3GB from pc to drive in 40 sec ࿬MB/s)

The eSATA interface makes for rapid file transfers. Drives run cool. I own about ten of these now and all have been solid and dependable. None. I bought these to backup AJA KiPro recordings and by making use of the eSATA on the AJA drive carts and these drives the file transfers have been quite rapid - substantially greater than 1394 or USB 2.. Editing and compressing from these drives has been similarly flawless. In the past I've tended to obtain drives and empty enclosures and build myown external drives but these have been so trusted and cost helpful there is no reason to do that.

The unit I received has a Seagate ST31000520AS Barracuda LP five,900 rpm 32MB cache drive. The enclosure is lovely, heavy gauge brushed aluminum with a pewter finish and vertical stand. The eSATA interface works flawlessly (I'm utilizing Fedora 12 Linux) - I moved 400GB onto it with no complications. The drive at the end of the copy was barely warm to the touch. The unit is also silent, except for a slight whir when the drive spins up after becoming in standby. None The drive has a white LED that's on as lengthy as the drive is powered. It's pretty bright, which doesn't bother me, but it's one thing to preserve in mind. I haven't applied the USB2 interface; no cause to with eSATA.

* It operates* Has some decent software program (downloadable) * Annoying vibration - makes desk resonate* Loud seek noise * Gets warm* Sloppy eSATA connection Right after reading the critiques on this drive, I had higher expectations. I assumed it would come with a Samsung drive inside (mentioned in one more review). Seems Iomega switched Hitachi - that explains all the cons. I can live with it as is - have to put on the floor. Really should have bought my personal enclosure and drive…

Told you guys I'd write another evaluation about the eSATA cable performance when I got my new system right here. Well, I got my new technique, and this cable is entirely rapidly! Effectively worth the dollars I paid. If your going to get any external drive, I'd certainly recommend an eSATA drive. This is a way more rapidly throughput than USB 2., way more rapidly Like I said in my last critique, just for comfort, I wished that the USB and eSATA cables were a tiny longer so you could place the drive where you wanted it.

A solid design with eSATA tends to make this model my default choice of external storage expansion drives for my notebooks that can only have 2x500Gb drives. The external power converter is a single style that's usable for multiple models which is beneficial given that I own many diverse models and I interchange them. With eSATA, moving my big databases, ISO images, ghost pictures, and movies are much faster than USB2. I can't wait for the price for the 2T model to drop so I can purchase a few additional. Although the energy converter is standardized and is a durable style, it's not collapsible. This indicates it will take up an added 5Ǟ" of thickness in my case! There is a security slot to lock up the drive on the finish of the drive. Even so, the finish closure plates are made of plastic. Furthermore, they are held to the aluminum alloy case by two flushed pan-head Phillips screws. So substantially for security. If I were to style this, I would place in secured Torx screws rather. For optimal disk space usage, you may possibly want to contemplate partitioning the drive into smaller partitions. Keep in mind the default block sizes for every single OS kind you're utilizing.

Very fast on eSata. Haven't used on USB, but I would anticipate typical USB speeds anyway. Making use of as a back-up to my WD Raptors on Windows 7 and haven't had any concerns. None so far. Make sure to turn on prior to booting up with eSata. Resumes fine when coming out of Sleep mode. Nice searching finish. Bang for the buck!

Got my brothers opinion that this was a one particular of the very best backup drives out there. Hopefully, that will turn out to be correct. Seems to be very high good quality drive with a metal casing, and a cool seeking tiny white indicator light. Haven't got a chance to use the eSATA cable, but when I get yet another program right here in about a month when costs go down I'll let ya know. Wish the USB and power cables had been a tiny longer. Had to set the drive on the laptop box itself in order for them to reach all the way to were I necessary to plug them in. Applied Acronis to back up my data. You could want to use the free Never ever Down backup computer software that you can download from the IOmega web site. It will enable you to boot from your external drive to make positive that your backup functions OK. Had to invest in an added power strip in order to have sufficient space to plug in the power provide that came with the drive, but it was worth it.

-Aluminum sides are fingerprint resistant-Downloadable software program is decent-The device is quite quiet -Included Sata cable is brief-The drive gets somewhat warm, almost certainly fine-The stand it comes with is just a plastic piece that doesn't even attach to the drive. The drive is built solidly and does what it says it can, but I wish they would have utilized aluminum for the back panel as properly. I lastly feel secure having my information backed up.

Works out of the box on 64 bit Windows 7 and 64 bit Mint 8 (Karmic). Haven't tried any of their software program. I have an esata port on my motherboard and it was available to both systems immediately after initially boot. 1 gb Music folder copied from an HDD in Mint in a blink of the eye. All cable connections included. Not big, but I don't believe it would travel as nicely as some other models. Not genuinely a con to me, but it is not plug and play. Wants to be connected or disconnected with the box off. Site wasn't especially helpful regarding power management. Doc in the box is just fast commence in a lot of languages. If you are looking for a 64 bit desktop backup or extra storage remedy, I feel you will like it.
