none I had 4 of these drives die on me within a month and half stretch... The 1st a single lasted 8 days...The 2nd and 3rd one particular wouldn't even format, maintain getting format errors, the 4th 1 lasted just more than a month, then it started obtaining create delay errors then died... These drives had been utilized as storage drives... So they weren't even stressed... I have a Seagate drive as a boot drive, and I replaced the WD drives with a Seagate drive, WD was supposed to be the finest drives but apparently not any longer...

(upgraded from WD 250mb that was full to this drive 500mb) and is running good. i do see better performance with the 32mb cache and operating cool and QUIET. have purchased numerous WD drives more than the year's and my first DOA. hopefully there QC is not lacking. seems a lot of people had challenge on the formatting.? NEWEGG Rocks. they issued a RMA and sent the replacementASAP.would have been good if the 1st worked. with the shipping back charges ended paying full value.

- Decent Speed- Runs good and quiet - None that comes to mind This was Caviar Green drive I purchased for my desktop. It isn't as potent as my prior drives, but then once more it is expected from an energy saver. I accidentally fried my very first a single so I purchased the identical exact one at Ideal Obtain out of desperation. I would definitely suggest this to those wanting a quiet drive.

I don't know any Bought this drive, and didn't get to install it until a couple of days before the return policy was up. Then located out it has a lag each and every 15 seconds, and is fairly a lot usesless for any games, and then it goes into sleep mode but truly goes into a coma, you have to reboot to get it back up again. Ran WD diagnostics on it, but no error messages. WD stated "Go Fish", so now i have an pricey paperwieght. All this neww hardware is sold in mass numbers, any bulk drive i have has never lived out it's warranty period. Retail, i nonetheless have 200 gig ide drive and a lot of others, that are nevertheless going the distance, and It's difficult to sell machines with alot of this hardware with a decent warranty. Black blue, green it doesent matter. Far more cache, greater rpms, low power mean more headaches it seems.

The drive is a "green" 7200RPM. I presently use it in a Debian household server and I can't hear it over the fans for the duration of mass file transfers. Transfering about 150GB+ from one particular SATA II drive to this ran at about 50MB/sec avg (running ext3 on both drives). Formatting. A lot like the other evaluations say I could not get the drive to format correctly and Windows 7 wouldn't even see the blank drive. Initially I got the drive to format below ext3 on Ubuntu 10.04 server but the drive would give superblock errors on server reboot. It diaged fine so I pressed my luck.Fix: Ubuntu ten.10 (LiveCD or installed it shouldn't matter) saw the drive but it was unmountable simply because of the errors. DISK UTILITY WILL NOT Perform you have to use GParted. I wiped the drive and it wouldn't format to ext2Ǚǚ and completely hung my technique. NTFS formatted but threw some funky error the initially time and produced it unmountable. I had to delete the partition table, reboot back into Ubuntu, and the drive formatted appropriate to NTFS. Immediately after I formatted it to ext3 and it worked like a charm. Anything diaged fine after formatting.tl;dr - Format with GParted just before you do something else with the drive. A Ubuntu 10.ten LiveCD really should operate. The two hours I spent getting the drive to format costed it an egg. The drive is one hundred% worth the price but if you hit the formatting situation don't get as well discouraged. GParted will get it accomplished just let it run for a although.

-Low-cost-Great Quality-Runs Cool-Spins itself down (in external enclosure)-its apparently a 7200RPM, which makes it an even greater cost it's not 500GB. Its essentially 465. Although ive gotten employed to a mild haircut, this is rediculous. 45GB is 9% of what i paid for. I seriously didn't want to give this drive five eggs. The signifigant storage haircut i took seriously irritated me. Even so, when i put in perspective of the price tag and of the capabilities 񣚠RPMs, 32MB cache), i felt that the trade off was fair sufficient to bump it up to the 5 eggs. just be aware of that if you strategy to purchase.

Installed Windows 7 64-Bit on this as a fresh set up. Every thing is operating smoothly. I haven't closed up the personal computer but just to see if the drive get hot like my old WD does. Soon after running for about two hours straight reinstalling anything the drive didn't even really feel warm. I didn't buy two. Windows 7 wants updated ULi drivers to set up on my older system. It was a bit of a discomfort to do but not the drives fault. Window recognized the drive correct away but the RAID controller wouldn't make it possible for it to communicate.

This little unit came by way of in a pinch. When my WD Caviar Black 750GB went out on my primary rig, I had this model kinda sitting around unused. I sent my Black back to the manufacturer and dropped this in my machine till the other could be replaced. I noticed absolutely NO efficiency distinction, but then once again I'm not as well taxing on any of my machines. I left this unit in my machine even following my Black 750 was replaced! None! A word on WD consumer assistance. I should say, I am extremely satisfied with the way WD handled my challenge on the Caviar Black 750 that went out. They replaced my 750 extremely swiftly - and with a 1TB Caviar Black drive! I have fallen into the habit of purchasing only WD drives and will continue to do so till the SSD is reasonably priced by mere mortals like my self. Thanks WD.

As opposed to numerous of WD's newer drives, this drive is still tweakable with WDTLER and WDIDLE3 for use in a Raid configuration.I been running two of them in a Raid for better than two months now with no matters and get sustained read rates of 185 Mb/s which is not negative thinking about that's 1Tb of fairly quick storage space for below a hundred bucks (I got mine when Newegg had them on sale for 40 Ea.).

Effortless upgrade from 160 Gig Western Digital. The WD Caviar Green 500 Gig was a excellent value especially with free shipping!! None at this time. I Utilized Acronis Correct Image WD edition to clone the disc. It took no longer than 15 minutes to move the image from the supply disc to the new disc. Right after a reboot every little thing worked like it really should.
