received the 1st drive and could not get it to format.tried several various OS versions. received 2nd drive and quickly was capable to format and clone my old disk inside 1 hour. (upgraded from WD 250mb that was full to this drive 500mb) and is running good. i do see better performance with the 32mb cache and operating cool and QUIET. have purchased numerous WD drives more than the year's and my first DOA. hopefully there QC is not lacking. seems a lot of people had challenge on the formatting.? Installed Windows 7 64-Bit on this as a fresh set up. Every thing is operating smoothly. I haven't closed up the personal computer but just to see if the drive get hot like my old WD does. Soon after running for about two hours straight reinstalling anything the drive didn't even really feel warm. I didn't buy two. Windows 7 wants updated ULi drivers to set up on my older system. It was a bit of a discomfort to do but not the drives fault. Window recognized the drive correct away but the RAID controller wouldn't make it possible for it to communicate.
