Get what you pay for

The drive runs great for a little while, Im on my second one, First one started freezing then one day it failed SMART tests. Sent it in for replacement. in the meantime i bought the 500gb black edition WD drive runs great, got the replacement back formated it as a second drive left it in put nothing on it yet and suddenly failed again. Would recommend upgrading to the black drive. |

An excellent drive for backups, storage, external enclosures. it's amazingly quiet and doesn't vibrate like some performance drives. Stays cool and consumes less power than others. I only buy WD drives now. |

Just doesn't hold up

I purchased 3 of these drives about 4 months ago. So far, 2 have failed and the 3rd is suspect. I don't recommend these drives. |

when it comes to drive, it is the hardware that makes the most noise out of my pc. therefore this harddrive can be hear while putting m hear 4 inches to the drive, so it is not silent as 2.5mm ones. but i have tried almost all brands, and none i am happy with because i can hear the hard drive when my room is silent |

Cooler, greener, no perceptible loss of performanc

500GB is dropping again in price, good time to pick up one of these quiet, lower energy consumption drives. Performance is exceeded by other comparable drives, but not by enough in most applications, especially when used as USB attached backup. |
I got this on sale for about 50$, for use as primary hard drive for my sister's new computer. its suppose to be more power efficient, but a little slower than the other WD Caviar HDDs. i can't tell much of a difference between my Samsung Spinpoint F1, however it seems a very tiny bit quieter. Overall it performed the way it was suppose to, and i feel a little more environmentally friendly using it :)
