Cons: Hugh ram usageKills performanceDowngrade from XP

Pros: Better GUI/HUD then XPNew featuresSidebar
Comment:
Vista is a great operating system, or so I thought. When I first used it, something I noticed was my computer was slower. Unacceptably slower. When I checked the ram usage, it was nearly 30 - 50% more than XP! This was unacceptable. So I changed back to XP, though I missed Vista's better looking gui and features. Later when I picked up some new sticks of 4 gb ram and combined them to make 12 GB of ram, I used vista again since my pc could handle it. Slightly satisfied.

Pros: Pretty64-bit makes it fast, if hardware is sufficient
Comment:
Have been running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition for a little over a year now and if I didn't have the hardware to support it, I would still be running Windows XP. If you have a choice in upgrading to Vista or waiting until Windows 7 comes out (wait for Windows 7).

Cons: its unstableterrible driver and software support

Pros: easy to install?
Comment:
Played with this for about 6 months before going back to XP.64 bit version is not widely supported by manufactures, and its hard to get working drivers for it.Lots of software will not still work with the 32bit emulation, and this thing made my machine take a huge hit in performance. Its much nicer to run 2gb of ram in XP than 4gb in vista.

- I only use this OS because 90% of the game can only be run on a Windows OS. - Support of Direct X 10 and Support more than 4 GB of RAM.Im running VMware workstation and most of the time I am on a Linux OS for my day to day task.

Cons: * 64bit drivers are hard to find* QuickTime seems to have problems on 64bit Windows

Pros: * fast install* SP1 is streamlined in it
Comment:
Vista ends up better than its reputation. Historically I've always been one step behind Microsoft's latest OS, simply because I could not bother with their bugs. So I upgraded to XP only after SP2. Vista SP1 is already quite good. The user interface sucks, but that's like with every O/S nowadays. I've tried Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu... Shmubuntu! Mac OSX is better, but as long as Steve Jobs insist on retaining control and deciding on which box I may or may not install it, this is not an option. Call congress. Call your representative. How would you feel if Ford allowed you to drive its cars only on odd-numbered highways; and if Toyota would not allow you to replace the in-dash radio? this is what the rotten fruit is doing, forcing users to buy overpriced hardware. Long live Hackintosh. And until then, Vista is the least evil. Ubuntu? yeah, if you like to go bug hunting.

Cons: Initial Drivers a bit buggy, some software doesn't play nice with Vista, a bit porky in the resource usage. Not as fast as OS X even on the same hardware.

Pros: As stable as XP now, better looking than previous editions of Windows, works with all my major applications and hardware.
Comment:
Overall a good experience, prior to Service pack 1 it was a bit slow but most of the bugs seem to be worked out now. 64bit memory support finally catches the PC side of my machine (Mac Pro dual Xeon, 8 Cores, 8Gb ram) up to the Mac side in terms of memory addressing. All my games work fine from Starcraft to Crysis, and render speeds have improved about 10-20% over using XP Pro (32bit) in both AfterEffects and Cinema 4D. Startup and shutdown times are still 3-4 times as slow when compared to OS X.

Cons: Takes up a lot of resources. Make sure to have a computer that can handle the extra burden of this OS.

Pros: A pretty interface. Snipping tool
Comment:
Overall, I'm happy with Vista. I have both XP and Vista and there's pros and cons to each. The snipping tool in Vista is a feature I use often as it's very easy to use

Cons: Some reliability issues but may be processor mobo problems. MS is providing free support for Vista SP1 right now and they are helping with my problem.

Pros: Vista SP1 if a far cry from initial release. Quick and painless setup.
Comment:
I have Vista on two computers. First one was Vista Ultimate RTM, of which I has serious hardware problems setting up (KB929777 - could only install with 2 of 8Gb of memory). However install the patch and all worked well and is still functioning today at top notch 8.69 on Reliability monitor. Vista Ultimate SP1 installed flawlessly but I was getting random reboots(like someone hit reset - using QX6850 and 680i). MS provided excellent assistance and I was able to eliminate Vista as the problem (98%) for now. It seems to be a voltage issue with the CPU and mobo. Know working with mobo manuf to fix the issus. Had to increase CPU core voltage to 1.31v. Without a doubt with the right hardware Vista flies.

Cons: -Very resource heavy, so I'd think that 4 gigs of RAM and a Quad Core would be best suited for this OS.-Older programs may not work on it, but that's why there's Virtual PC so you could still run Windows XP within Vista.

Pros: -Sophisticated look over Windows XP-Page flipping with a secondary scroll wheel is a nice touch-Search bar is right in the Start menu (Should have been in Windows 95 to begin with!)-Windows DreamScene animated desktops! (or use your own MPEG's)
Comment:
Initially I was weary of getting this. I've long been a Windows XP fan but really, this is new, and I had no issues in finding the right drivers for my programs. One thing I had to download was the software for my HP PSC1500 series printer, since it predates the release of Vista. You really should have 4 gigs of memory though to run the Ultimate Edition of Vista though, and at least a 2.0 GHZ dual core or better yet just go Quad. I'm very happy to say that Vista Ultimate exceeded my expectations.

Cons: I was never able to overclock my 9850be. I actually had to UNDERvolt the 3rd processor and drop the HT from 2000 to 1800 because of incompatiblity with the m3a32 mobo and vista 64.

Pros: Beautiful and has everything. I love Media Center; stoping live TV you say?
Comment:
If you're looking for a OS for your new computer now and don't want to wait for Windows 7 get this. It's worth the extra money. 64bit driver issuses are almost gone.

Cons: CD and audio playback issues from cd, will play mp3, this will need to be resolved. Installation not for the amateur, but for advanced PC users

Pros: Fast, beautiful rendering of movies and graphics, great security, well thought out interface
Comment:
I really love the look and feel of this OS, the native 64 bit is fast. You will have to download the SP1 and install it before you do anything else. Install antivirus, graphics and chipset drivers before you connect to the Internet. Then everything should go fine.Like XP, there will be a need to refine the drivers and compatibility. I am glad I waited a year before purchasing it.As I said, the look and feel gives you a taste of what is possible.Huge difference with COD4 from the XP, the look is totally different.Memory compatibility is also solid.Overall, do your research and reading before you install , get familiar with what might go wrong and read the forums where your board(MOBO) is from.I repeat, the installation can be quite complex and you need to be really familiar with computers, for now, its for advanced users only.

Cons: Far too many process's running after a fresh install, like almost 60!!! What were they thinking... A lot of useless start-up functions that even the advanced user would probably not employ. Hmmm, that's about it.... It's,simply put, a really bad resource hog when it comes to the first install.

Pros: DX10 is such an improvement with this OS, it's pretty much my favourite thing about it. Windows Aero's its a really neat feature. CTRL+ALT+DEL can save you during game/app crashes as it has worked almost 95% of the time in such case's.
Comment:
All in all with today's system's being as powerful as they are, Vista should run fine after some tweaking. XP was the EXACT same thing, a learning process. If I could only count the amount af BSOD's.....LoL

Cons: Really need a system that can handle Vista

Pros: quick...for Windows
Comment:
I hate to admit it, but this is prolly one of the best Windows O/S out there. I was a total Vista hater before using this (and still dislike the other versions) but was very impressed by this one. Just make sure you have a system that can handle it and that there are Vista drivers avail for it. Using a Q6600 and 4GB ram it takes about 20% of my resources. If you are going Vista, this is the one to get.

This OS is probably the best OS. 64 bits edition makes it faster then 32 bits. Since the release os SP1 RC, coping files is about 40% faster and it has mores drivers. Now all my peripheral are recongnized!

Cons: Of course there's a lot, drivers problems, etc..

Pros: This is a great OS. You need the 64 BITS version to support 4GB of RAM. It's getting better and better, and the SP! will come soon!
Comment:
You must be sure that you can find the drivers you'll need before upgrading. You need a 64 BITS version to run 4GB+ or RAM. If you do upgrade to Vista, I really suggest going all the way and taking the Ultimate version with 64BITS.

Pros: Very smooth and responsive, boots fast
Comment:
I have to admit that I was a committed Vista hater, before I gave Ultimate 64-bit a whirl. Now I love it so much that I got rid of my dual-boot setup and reformatted with this alone.Very fast, extremely friendly, and I have had ZERO compatibility issues, with any program I have installed. All of my games, from the newer ones to the older ones work perfectly.I have 4GB of DDR2-800, and therefore I don't notice any performance issues. However, if you had only 1GB or 2GB, maybe it would be noticeably slower than XP.

Cons: Must manually download some updates from the MS website to get Vista to recognize >3 GB of RAMFinding the proper (read: working) device drivers can be a hassle for some products (Not entirely MS's fault)Resource hog

Pros: 64 bit operating system should hold you over for a number of years to come in regards to program compatibilities and capabilitiesRuns beautifully (once you get it set up how you like it... Or just set up)Provides lots of backwards compatibility options for running older softwareSupport for more RAM than you could need for the next decade or so at leastQuite stable considering it's a relatively new OSMore drivers being developed than for older operating systems
Comment:
If you're going to move to Vista, I highly recommend that you go all the way and get Vista Ultimate x64 edition, as it provides you with all the features and the maximum amount of compatibility, future and present, among all the flavours of Vista out there, with the least amount of hassle to get it to run how you want it to, rather than how it wants to. I think of the other Vista flavours as Vista Lite® — All The Bloat With Half The Substance™Once you've acquired all the proper drivers and tweaked it to suit your needs, Vista does run like a dream. People just seem to get caught up on the initial hassles, not that I blame them.

Cons: Difficult to find working drivers for some devicesNot all games will run on 64 bit

Pros: Nice sleek interface gives a fresh view on your system.64 bit version gives support for more RAMEasy to install
Comment:
I installed Vista 64 assuming that it had been out for long enough now that any new games should be supported. I was wrong in this assumption. I had trouble finding working drivers for some of my devices, but after much fiddling found what I needed the first thing I did after installing, and updating the system was install my two favourite games. I could not get either one to run. One was Call of Duty 4 (Steam version) and the other was Crysis. I switched back to XP for now and will try this after SP1 releases. I've read now that the issues I had with these games could have been resolved with some fiddling, but I'd like to see Vista get to the point where no fiddling is required for new hardware/games before I use it full time. Overall I liked Vista's looks and it's interface, even though it would take some getting used to. For now I'm going to rate it 3, but will change this later if support improves.
