Wonderful functions from a supposedly solid brand. USB three. Sata 6gbs ect... First board failed following installing and updating windows overnight. On a cold boot up it lost video, just pretty lights on my case. RMA'd by way of newegg. The second board worked for about three weeks and abruptly blue screened whilst playing warcraft. It restarted to a black screen and said the bios was corrupted and that the checksum didnt match. Flashed bios successfully and like the fist time it lost all video. RMA process has been began with MSI and im dropping it off for shipping tomorrow. This is my initial create ever, to a friend, and its embarrassing to have this quite a few difficulties from a single element alone. I hope MSI can make this correct since there are a lot other best shelf options... If you intend to obtain from MSI I would propose a various model no matter if or not you invest a lot more or significantly less.

Almost everything i installed posted with hitches, not 1 issue. The layout of this board was just about best, appears like MSI purposely laid out this board pondering of the installer (unlike the other 870 board [asus] i got for my gf) Doesnt come with the goodies (easy connectors, a lot more sata cables) that my gf's MB came with at the similar/near the identical cost. The con i stated isnt a biggie, because it came with almost everything i required. My only wish for this board is that it came with 6. Gb/sec labled sata cables like the asus. Why all the unfavorable reviews? If i would will need a different spending budget gaming board i would get this one once more no question, or wait for a spending budget AM3+.MSI is my new favored thanks to this MB

I have been making use of this MoBo for about ten months with an overclocked 6 core, 8 GB RAM, and Vertex 2 SSD. OCed the CPU from two.8 to three.5 Ghz and running very fast and stable. none I am waiting for the Vertex 3 265 GB to drop in price tag and I will totally test out the SATA three port. Following reading some of the recent testimonials about blue screens at boot after a month I wonder if folks are experencing eratic behaviour from OCing their CPU or turning on "extra" cores. Some times you have to back off a small when items get flakey. Also, room temperature can play a large distinction if you are OCed to the edge. A 70 degree space VS a 85 degree room can trigger adequate of a temperature difference to bring about your CPU to cease functioning properly if you are currently pushing the thermal envelope by OCing to significantly. I had to back off of 3.6 Ghz due to the fact at 75F degrees space temp the CPU temp was at 60C and factors began acquiring weird following a couple of minutes of gaming. Just some thoughts...

Functions, Cost. Bought this board August 2010. Installed it. None of the USB2 ports worked, thought the two USB3 ports worked. Because I could make due with two, I didn't go by means of the hassle of RMA'ing.Earlier this week, I left a big processing job operating overnight. In the morning, the computer system was off. The case switch was absolutely unresponsive, so I figured maybe the energy supply went. I grabbed a Thermaltake 850, hooked it up, and threw the switch. One of the square chips (MOSFETS?) that is situated involving the CPU socket and the back panel connectors popped and CAUGHT FIRE.Now, I cant truly say for certain what happened. Maybe the initial energy provide (a 4 year old 550w Antec) was just overloaded and blew, damaging the motherboard in the course of action? Possibly a thing on the motherboard went and took two power supplies with it?All I know is that no other motherboard I have ever owned has CAUGHT FIRE.I have constructed possibly 10 systems in the previous ten years, and I've under no circumstances noticed anything like At this point, I'm just tossing this MB, and each energy supplies. I have no thought what damaged what, but I am not risking harm to any a lot more elements.I just ordered an ASUS M4A79XTD. No additional MSI "Military Class" for me.

Cost and Value. For what this board has on it, its really a good deal, USB 3., six x six.0GB/s Sata, core unlocking, and fantastic overclocking capability. The onboard on the fly overclocking dial is neat ... even though I nevertheless just went through the bios settings myself, and did not allow it.Unlocked 3rd and 4th cores on an Athlon II x2.Assuming longevity is very good, this is a great long term upgrade, I won't want a new board until DDR3 or AM3 are upgraded and obsolete, but neither appears to be happening as well quickly. Didn't unlock the fourth core on my Phenom II x3, as of yet I am not confident why, but I get infinite rebooting with no video when I tried to run the fourth core. I could just have an unlucky defective 4th core, because I did get the processor incredibly soon soon after x3's were readily available.Corsair RAM didn't like running above 1333MHz, but I haven't gotten to down and dirty with RAM voltages however either. Each of these are in all probability not troubles with the board as a lot as my other elements, everything else does precisely what I wanted, and a lot more. Phenom II x3 720 BE (Heka) operating at three.6GHz (from two.8)Prime95 runs at 57°C max with upgraded heatsinkCorsair DDR3 8GB 1333MHz 2x4Radeon HD5770 running three screens, not overclocked (yet)Prior board was DDR2 AM2+, in video encoding and decoding (which i do a decent amount of) I see a good efficiency boost with the quicker ram, and more rapidly OC (previous was not steady above three.3GHz)I didn't get a DoA, but for those who do, I assume this card is absolutely worth an RMA and shipping. For overclocking, it outperforms a lot of its peers in testimonials, as properly, which is why I chose it. The feature set will keep existing for at least an additional two to 3 years, I won't will need to upgrade once again anytime in the forseeable future. This is my fourth MSI mobo, the only dilemma I've had with them is that a single of them lost the internal lan and sound to lightning, but otherwise nevertheless performs.

Appears nice, I like the black finish and blue heatsinks. I'm positive some sort a fully functional example would have plenty of pros to talk about. Sadly... Effectively people, let teach you a small some thing about tempting fate.I was researching mobos to upgrade from my 2.3GHz Intel setup, and was selecting in between this board an the comparably priced options.I went with this board despite seeing the DOA evaluations here, deciding that having a high quality board for the appropriate value would be worth the danger of having to RMA one.Lo and behold, my first board was DOA. I accounted for the functionality of every single piece of my system except the CPU and mobo - which were both brand new (didn't have a different AMD cpu/mobo to test with). I RMA'ed the board and the cpu (which I'd feared damaged in a tricky mounting course of action) for fantastic measure, and waited for replacements. This is exactly where it gets very good. With brand new mobo and CPU (Phenom II X4), method booted up once (further than I'd gotten before)...and shut off permanently right after I moved the case slightly. I've tested everything from my PSU to the energy strip and wall socket to my case switches. The only thing left was the face the cold reality that I got two DOA boards in a row. What a shame that this is such an unreliable solution - a true slap in the face given the "Military Class" jargon they promote. It's actually hurt my opinion of MSI - a brand I properly trusted until this event. A shame certainly, as the MSI 460GX graphics card I have has been really satisfactory so far.I have learned my lesson, and won't be trusting MSI motherboards once more. I've gotten a refund and will be going with the Asus equivalent to this model, the M4A79XTD. I recommend you look elsewhere as properly. It looks pretty?... Motherboard was DOA- no post, errors, beeps, nada. RMA'ed for a replacement. Waited. Second motherboard was also DOA, identical story. To be fair (I guess) both boards did power up, but that's as far as they ever got. I've ready many critiques about these motherboards and how terrible "most" of the experiences have been. It does perform(eventually). After I figured out how it worked. And now understanding how it operates, and taking into account what it accomplished in spite of my ignorance. Frustrating. Didn't like to post. Lights come on, a lot of them, and keep on, fans all come on, and remain on. That OC button's vibrant red LED glow taunting me. Sound familiar? I may well have the solution. Long story quick: I thought my affordable DDR3 1333 CL9 was happily running at 7.7.7.20. I was so wrong. Crashing, failing to boot afterwards. Clearing CMOS didn't even generally function the very first time, more on that at the finish. The similar bold red text message appearing when it did ultimately eventually reboot: "WARNING!!!! overclocking failed." Confusing at very first, but the technique began receiving a tiny much more stable each time. At some point it became completely stable. Then I noticed my RAM timings, the board's BIOS elevated each and every single 1 of them. 9.ten.10!Basically, it achieved what I failed to.Also, if it fails boot, I discovered on MSI's web page(afterwards) you can try rebooting four occasionsƓ wasn't sufficient, MSI?!) in a row, which will trigger the board to use default settings.

-Cost -SATA Port Layout a tiny inconvenient- will need tiny hands for some of the ports-DOA My friend recommended this to yet another pal just before me, only to get a DOA board. I shouldn't have got it either due to the fact mine was the same way. I don't know if it is a bad batch or what but many persons have been giving this board unfavorable evaluations. I would not read my brand new and old difficult drives no matter what. Immediately after figuring out what it was, I got a refund and purchased an ASUS M4A87TD EVO which fairly much worked flawlessly (can't count on every thing to function properly suitable away with a new rig/ more affordable motherboard). I undoubtedly urge you not to get this board. MSI has been a excellent brand in the past, but in the case of this board, ive got absolutely nothing but headaches.

Performs good with stock settings. When overclocking it becomes unstable. I cant get my 1600mz ram to run at 1600mz without having crashes. I hat to reduce it to 1333mz. then thre is the pci-e x16 (x16, x4) I am running two cards in crossfire and it only gets about a 20% bump in proformance. I now want I would have ogt 1 that supports the PCI-e X16 (X8,X8). But all in all it is a very good bord. if you want good graphics out of it purchase a better single card and not two lesser ones to run in crossfire mode with this board.

Worked quite well, when it did function. I liked the BIOS layout. Right after utilizing it for two and a half weeks, I woke my computer up from sleep to obtain a "CMOS checksum negative" error. Went into the BIOS, redid my settings, and every thing worked fine for yet another couple of days. This morning, I woke my computer system up to... practically nothing. The fans were running, but no POST, no beeps, no video signal, and an oddly rhythmic small challenging drive reading noise pattern. I assumed the CMOS battery may well have died, went out to acquire a new one. Didn't operate. Unplugged all the peripherals, still nothing. I'm leaving for a cross-country trip in a couple days, during which Newegg's return deadline expires, so I have to return it now. Reading via the testimonials, I see that there are very a few other individuals who have had this problem. MSI's QC appears to be lacking. I initially picked MSI to keep away from Asus due to a difficulty I had with 1 of their earlier boards, but now I'll be searching into getting from a unique firm.
