I've been reading about this CPU for a whilst now and how the additional cores were unlockable. So I purchased this CPU and an MSI board that had the core unlocker function. It worked! The board unlocked the further cores but as quickly as it did, the heatsink fan went from extremely quiet to quite loud. Not a major enough heatsink for unlocking and overclocking. AMD should know that people only get the "Black Edition" CPUs to over power them, so they need to know to put a bigger heatsink that can deal with the further loads. You get a 3.2GHz two core chip that will handle almost anything you want to do with it. You also have a chance to unlock 1 or two additional cores! If you want to unlock cores or overclock, obtain an additional heatsink. Unlockable cores. It's under 贄. The heatsink is the most dismal factor I've ever noticed. I've noticed beefier pocket fans. This is my 3rd develop, and I decided to save some money. Operating a X6 1000T at operate which clocks slightly quicker (with the addition of two additional cores mind you). So far, small noticeable difference aside from you know, 赀 more dollars. Will be OC'ing shortly. My board offers core-unlocking which I'd strongly advise for a fresh develop. Worked very good out of the box. Glad I was in a position to activate all 4 cores. Can't beat the price tag. Was running this chip as a temporary replacement for a Phenon 965. It ran great for more than a month, then earlier this week my screen abruptly went blank and I had to reboot. A single of the cores failed and left me running on three cores. I went into the bios and turned the core back on and when I F10 to save and exit, the computer shut down.Noticeable functionality reduction when the core failed. I am told that these chips are manufactured as 4 core chips but fail inspection and testing at the manufacture so they have two cores disabled and are sold at a low value. If you activate the other two cores, they could be defective and fail some time in the future as mine did. It's just luck if you get a good a single.I place the Phenom 965 back in and it runs circles around this chip soon after the core failed in it.I do have a very good back-up chip on hand with the Phenom 555. Might use it for yet another make for the children.

Simply unlocks to a quad-core. 3.2GHz (which can be quickly OC'd) and it's โ more affordable than the 955 (which is basically the identical factor..) As a dual core, it runs Very cool. Slapped a Hyper 212 on it in Push/Pull and it sits at room temperature at idle. Broke 25C beneath full load. None so far. This is day 1 though. I got lucky. Mine unlocked into a quad. Bumped the multiplier up to 20 and I have a 4GHz quad core that doesn't break 40C below complete load and stays around 30C below gaming load. Cheapy MSI Motherboard with a Hyper 212 in Push/Pull. Good replacement for my Q6600 that got eaten when my PSU failed and took every little thing with it.
