AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor
Cons: None for this price range

Pros: Backward compatible
Comment:
My old asus board still has a lot to offer. I decided to take this quad core CPU upgrade. The price is good and the performance is great.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor
Cons: 6-core now available for a small premium in price

Pros: Price to performance ratio
Comment:
I have to admit I have a weak spot for the underdog and that's why I've always stuck with AMD when it comes to CPU's. Sure it's not the fastest quad-core out there comapred to what Intel has to offer, but it has more than enough power for the average user. And the price to perofrmace ration is great. My only regret is that now AMD has released it's 6-core processor for just a slight premium in price, which I probably would have gone for.

Cons: none to report

Pros: it's awesome

I bought this along side an XFX 5770 XXX edition GPU and It runs great. Games load and run fast. I've been editing super large (1.5G) files in photoshop and it plugs away on them pretty good.

Smooth and Fast
Comment:
Finally upgraded system from 939 to AM3. Great speed. Haven't overclocked. Everything runs so smoothly now. I don't wait for much of anything.

I like it
Comment:
This process is much faster then my last one. It is also better priced the the I5, and supposibly faster. I did not try to overclock it, but my fan is already running full speed when I run video games, so you might need two case fans on this processor if you want to overclock it.

Performance horsepower
Comment:
Blazingly fast and powerful. Was top of the line until the six cores came out last week. But in my opinion it is still the best high end cpu for the money and performance compared to Intel's. Will hang on to this for a while to see how good rating of the six cores get posted.

Fast, but not the fastest!
Comment:
Nice processor for the money. Very easy to overclock. Performs well for gaming purposes but performance lags for uses compared to AMD's competitor.

720 -Better Deal?
Comment:
The Phenom II X3 720 gives you about the same performance at about half the price (assuming you have a MOBO that has ACC and you overclock both). I was able to OC the 965 to 3.92 Ghz with a Window's experience of 7.5. I got a Window's experience of 7.5 at 3.5 Ghz with the 720.

BEST VALUE
Comment:
The 965BE give you great performance at a reasonable price. I love this processor and am running it on a MSI NF980-G65. It runs cool, fast and is highly overclockable. The only con is that the new hexcore Phenoms are out and I'm gonna have to upgrade when the price goes down. However, it is not a necessary upgrade as my system rips through any application that I through at it.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor
Cons: high temp

Pros: good performancelow pricepotential of OC
Comment:
Nice CPU, very fast and perform well in gaming, at the same time has a lower price. Altough temp turns out higher than intel on full load, still acceptable, with a good fan or watercooling can overclock to a higher level.

Best Processor
Comment:
This CPU blows Intel out of the water for value vs. performance. As far as gaming is concerned this is the best choice. The only con I've found is that the stock fan is quite loud. I turned the fan speed down to 60% which keeps it quiet but i have to move it up while putting it under load. I will say that it idles a little warm at 40c and easily reaches 55c while under load. I am ordering an aftermarket heatsink and fan and would suggest anyone else do the same.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor
Cons: not really

Pros: pricefastCool
Comment:
upgrade from my old amd x2 3800+, the performance jump is very noticable.I did not use the stock cooler, but with a CM 212, the cpu is running pretty cool around 28 idle and in the middle range of 40 when stressed. The price is competative when compare with Intel rivals like i5 750. And AMD based motherboard seems cheaper too.

Great CPU
Comment:
The AMD Phenom II quad core is absolutely excellent. Runs a bit hotter than Intel but at 43C it is cooler than any other AMD I have had. I am not an over-clocker so I say nothing about that aspect. I am a long time AMD user.

Pros: Fast CheapBlack editionGreat O'C

Paired this the MSI 790FX and in one word, wonderful. Prime stable and worth every cent. I would buy this over an i7 because of the increased value. Buying this didn't break the bank

Easy O verclock
Comment:
I bought this CPU with a Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H mobo. I spent the extra cash on the board because it's forward compatible with the next gen AMD chips. Anyway, Boosted the clock speed from 3.4 Ghz to 4.0 Ghz incredibly easily in the BIOS and noticed virtually NO change in CPU temps. I have a separate physical sensor hooked up to the CPU with a temperature display on the faceplate of the temp monitoring setup. The temperature of the CPU during normal use is around 38 degrees Celsius, with load running, for example, Dragon Age Awakenings or Mass Effect 2 the temp is around 41 degrees. These temps are virtually identical to the temps of the CPU before overclocking. So far so stable and very fast.

Great processor with noisy fan
Comment:
This processor is no doubt solid and a great performer. However, the fan that it comes with is extremely loud and annoying. After just a week I decided to replace the fan with a water cooling system. Now i am happy.

Fast but loud
Comment:
CPU fast and no problems so far (after 1 month). The supplied fan is very loud. I'm supprised that a hi-end product would be supplied with such a cheap fan: maybe my fan is deffective but I can't send it back and not have a computer for 10days. Gonna buy a new fan very soon.

Perfect CPU for budget
Comment:
While the 955 can be overclocked to similar levels I chose the 965 for the memory it can support. I find it to be a better investment. CPU runs strong and hasn't hiccuped yet. Though a word of warning, I could easily reach 60C (I'd stop there, I'm sure it would have kept going) with the stock heatsink under full load. This doesn't mean it's useless, a trick I learned; flip the fan on the heatsink upside down. This put my temps at a stable 53C under load. Still high, but if you don't want to get a different heatsink it's something to take note of.

I've only had Intel Processors all my life... Wanted to build a gaming computer... I won't use Intel ever again enless it was free... Purely Amazing!!! Curently over Clocked at 4280ghz (4.2ghz) and stable... Run games like Crysis Warhead... On Enthusist.. Barely breaks a swet. AMD 4TW!!! :)
