the drive is good but I would like to mention here "rebate". After completion the steps which they require to do via web I got a PDF form to fill, I had to send in one address in US with prove of purchase - invoice copy and label with barcode from device. At first there were no labels - barcodes on device which resemble the example gived in PDF form. secondly, the first label on device was "device ID" which obviously can not be removed - it's device ID and subject of warranty issues etc, otherwise in case of problems in future the device can not be returned. second label was on carton box of this device, and it resembled more or less the given example. so I sent it and I got the answer - "Your Rebate was not approved for the following reason(s):- Required Documentation missing-Original UPC/Serial Number Barcode Label"Don't believe this rebate scam - it's completely fraud. They suggest to resubmit the rebate claim - don't bother you will spend probably more sending the letters than gain some crumbs. |

As mentioned in the "cons" I noticed an excess amount of glue (at least I hope it was glue) on the sides of the disk tray. It can only be seen when you open the tray to put a disk in. I removed it with my fingers but I felt that it shouldn't be there for a higher end optical drive.However, that was a very minor inconvenience. The drive is actually very quick and responsive. I haven't written any Blu-Ray disks but having that option available is nice.Overall, if you need the Blu-Ray burning capability or if the ASUS-BW12 is on sale I would recommend you grab it. If you only need it to play DVD's and CD's it may be more cost effective to get something else. |

I haven't used this drive for burning yet. For the Blu-rays I've tried on it, it has worked fine, although the buzz from playing the disc is a bit louder than I'd like. If you don't need the burning capability, I'd go with the BC-12B1ST as it also comes with Cyberlink PowerDVD for Blu-ray playback. |

Got this on boxing week sale for cheap with the MIR so can't complain too much about it. From the front it looks very nice the black plastic face plate matches the black metal on my C70 case. I read other peoples reviews of this drive so I knew before I bought it that the internal body wasn't black like the picture shows above. Sure with NCIX would fix this so people know what they're getting. So if you can get this cheap it is a good drive. |

This drive is an excellent purchase. As a burner, it can't be beat with fast read and write speeds. Wish it came with BR disc viewing software, but that's not a big issue. Keep in mind, the unit itself is grey, but the faceplate is black. Primarily using this to burn HD camcorder footage. |

This being my first Blu-Ray drive, I have to say I'm quite satisfied so far. It burns the discs pretty fast, and even performs well when using it for DVDs and CDs. Not complaints here, although the faceplate black isn't quite the same as other products - not a big deal, but if you want a perfectly-matched case, it could be a little irritating. |
Bought this to replace an aging DVD burner. Not much use for optical drives these days, but you might as well get a bluray burner even if all you burn are DVDs.
