dead board
Cons: board did not boot when I assembled it. No beeps. nothing. I removed the memory and got three beeps. I reinstalled 1 2gig memory stick. It then booted. I shut it down and installed the other memory stick. I then got a message about something like bios check sum error and it searched for a recovery disk. removed the second memory and loaded windows. it ran for less than a day when windows update wanted to reboot. after the reboot it was dead. no beeps even with the memory removed. removing the battery overnight did not help.
Pros: on board video, sound, lan. |

Great Budget MB
Cons: Asus should have stretched it an another 2 inches and made it a nine hole mount (vice 6.) When plugging in RAM or connectors on the right side, it flexes. I held my fingers under the board while connecting everything. One more Case Fan connector would have been nice.
Pros: Great Layout, Great Software, Plenty of USB ports, 5 internal SATA 3.0 + 1 external SATA and 1 eSATA. Using AMD Phenom II 945 CPU, and 4 sticks of 1g Crucial Rendition RAM. Everything correctly detected by BIOS. Audio software works really well - even detects front panel mic and headphones. Comment:
Floppy Drive IDE has been dropped. Not much of an issue these days, but if you still use one, you'll have to go external with this board. |

WINDOWS 7 SUPPORT
Cons: You have to reinstall your system (Windows 7 for me) or repair the operating system for some reason Windows just doesn't like changing boards....Don't know about mac!
Pros: Everything from customer support (which they even called back to check on ME!! surprise there) to the very product... plenty of ports...8 USB 2 E-SATA and worked to perfextion with 2 PIC-Express ports... roomy and 4 memory ports.. The customer support guy told me that these M4 boards were made for Windows 7 so. I have win7 64bit and it works perfect for me... Comment:
I thought the board was defective turned out I just had to flip a cable (the power switch cable).. but Newegg gave me the RMA and was very helpful.. However I never used it.... Just remember that you would need to buy thermal paste!!!!!!!!!!! when you re-seat your CPU!!!!! Very Crucial |

ASUS M4A78 Plus ATX AMD Motherboard
Cons: I haven't encountered any yet
Pros: - supports Phenom II X2 550 Callisto core cpu- nice BIOS Comment:
luckily, the BIOS was already the correct version to handle my CPU |

Terrible
Cons: Never booted past the bios splash screen. Tried multiple ram modules in different slots. Never got it past. Called support and they said that I have to use qualified RAM. Pfft. I'm not trading my G.skill Pi for some run of the mill RAM. Returned same day.
Pros: The specs. Price for what you get. Comment:
Maybe i just had bad luck, but I was anxious to get my Phenom II 955 up and running. Turned to Gigabyte to give me a working mobo and was pleasantly surprised. |

No problems
Cons: The I/O panel is stupid (but which motherboard's isn't?). The panel they give you is frustrating to get on but I wouldn't consider this a con since the performance is not affected - just the external appearance. Also, see below for a not-really-con.
Pros: Great motherboard! Installation was pretty easy and it runs beautifully. No problems as of yet (knock on wood) and so far it's working great! Comment:
Didn't connect the 12V power until AFTER I installed the heatsink. That was a mistake since there was virtually no room for my fingers to plug in the stupid power chord. Not really a con but just keep it in mind when you are connecting it. Otherwise, this is a great motherboard for the price! |

beware
Cons: Worked great for a day or two. Then with no warning, after a restart. Nothing. No post. Not even a keyboard light, or monitor kick on. Just dead. I'm returning, and going for a more reliable board.
Pros: Looks, good. Sure it would perform great if it hadn't died. Comment:
Another review said that 1 in 6 are bad. I believe him |

Bad boards, bad business.
Cons: My ECS's and other cheap boards were only giving me about a year of service so I thought I'd go with the supposed best, but asus turned out to be the worse. This board was DOA and the M4A78 Pro it was temporarily replacing has to be RMA'ed as it started dying at 6 mo and was dead at 7 or 8. I'd a been better off for price and quality to go with the cheap boards, much better off. Not at all what I expected from Asus. At this rate, if I have to return these every 6 months I'll be paying more for return shipping in the long run for both my recent Asus board purchases than I paid for the boards. In what I'm hoping is an unlikely scenario, that could potentially better than double the price of each board. :(With that in mind and due to the reviews I read from you other 1 eggers, I'm pretty sure I'm going to change my New Egg RMA from "replace" to "refund". I just don't need this aggravation or to be stuck with 2 Asus boards.
Pros: None. Poorly made/little or no quality control. First new Asus dead in a few months, the second new one from a different order, DOA. I'm reduced to posting from my 10 year old HP Pavilion 500 mhz. The old HP has an Asus board and because it's lasted is one reason I decided to pay the extra for an Asus. Well, they don't make em like they used to. Comment:
Customer service? I called to RMA the old board & knew the board was warranted for 3 yrs, but the lady on the phone was acting odd so I asked about the warranty to see what kind of rep I was dealing with, she had to go ask only to return and tell me there was no warranty, but she continued to take my info, weird. She told me she'd have to email the RMA number and at the time I had no PC (for obvious reasons) she made a huge deal about that, I mean cmon lady, just give me the RMA # on the phone, but, oh no, that wouldn't work. I then got stern but was still nice. We got past that and just as she asked me for the serial # she said the line was going dead and I was breaking up (I'm on a land line). From her tone, I could tell she was lying but she had the nerve to go through the whole "breaking up/can you hear me" thing and then hung up on me. I got it taken care of, but now have a simple question. don't want to call and let them upset me, but they don't answer their support email. |

Buyer Beware - no XP support / pathetic RAID support.
Cons: Okay, seriously... What is the deal with the documentation? Absolutely no published documentation regarding RAID. A PDF file hidden on the CD that hardly does it justice. Would it have killed you to print something up? No floppy support which cracks me up given that they provide XP drivers. No problem, slipstream.. oh except that the drivers in the RAID folder don't work and the RAID drivers in the "Chipset" folder don't work either. Download the drivers from the website you say? Oh sure you will see the array and it installs very nicely.. just don't reboot. BSOD!! After scouring the internet I found ZERO solutions. Based on the feedback I have read if you plan to use RAID with this motherboard, you are better off buying a RAID controller. What's the point?
Pros: Decent motherboard with a lot of USB support. Memory placement is decent. Inexpensive. Comment:
Bottomline. If you plan to use RAID; buy something that doesn't involve an AMD Northbridge chipset. What happened to the good 'ole days of nForce? I digress. |

great board
Cons: Right side of board under ram is unsupported. So hold the edge while u install your ram.
Pros: Easy install. Layout is nice, sata ports out oe the way from the pcie. Lots of usb ports. Asus gateway feature is pretty cool. Havnt tried ocing, but many settings available so it shouldnt be difficult. Comment:
standard shipping got me this in two days. Wow. Very versital board. Might not phsyco gamers. But big bang for your buck. |

Awsome for the price
Cons: Only 5 internal sata ports
Pros: eSata, 9 USB on the back Comment:
This board rocks. I added the Kuma 7750 to it with 4gb Gskill ram. I just wish it had more sata ports, I had to use IDE for one of my DVD drives |

Rock Solid
Cons: It's still a bit pricey for, what i consider, a low end AM2 board.
Pros: Great Motherboard. It's rock solid, full of features and has 9 USB PORTS! Crossfire capable and laid out very well. Comment:
I loved it so much I convinced the IT guy at my business to buy four of them as replacements for older units. |

never again
Cons: never worked from day one. I was purchasing parts for a new build every payday. took a while to get them all. the board was bad but asus said I'd had it too long to replace it.(4 months)
Pros: none Comment:
I'n done with asus |
![]() Rating: Review Date: 12/23/09 |
Poor RMA support from ASUS
Cons: In the BIOS, the board reports zero current on the 5 volt rail and it appears there is something not right about the 5 volt rail because if I try to use S3 standby (suspend to RAM), the system shuts down and loses all data. No big deal. Sometimes these things happen. So I RMA'ed the board and after 10 days, ASUS sent me the exact same board with the exact same problem without any explanation. I guess this means they either didn't reproduce the problem or couldn't fix it. Whatever the case, sending me the same board without fixing it and not providing any explanation is not acceptable to me. And I'm not a very difficult customer.
Pros: Very good AMD chipset. Good placement of PCI / PCIe slots. Lots of SATA ports. Lots of USB ports. Very decent HD onboard audio. Generally high quality motherboard. (if everything worked) Comment:
I build a lot of AMD based PCs and I've been happy using ASUS boards with AMD or Nvidia chipsets for many years, but this experience has me doubting my brand loyalty to ASUS. I'm not sure if I'll continue using them. Foxconn and Gigabyte build good AMD chipset boards. Maybe I'll start using one of them instead. |

So-So
Cons: This is the first of the Plus' boards I've bought...and I think this one isn't as well build as the others I've bought. It seems a lot lower quality than the M4a78 PRO I have in my own PC. This one came with a dead network port!! I decided against an RMA...this PC is for my Brother for Christmas, so I decided to just add a locally bought LINKSYS Network card. Works great with the PCI NIC card! I've read a lot of other people's comments and apparently the NIC is an issue on this board.
Pros: This is my third M4A78 series board I've bought for building PCs for other people and 1 for myself...love the series! Comment:
I've always bought ASUS boards, and for a while their quality was very poor...so I switched to Gigabyte boards. I went back to ASUS with this build and have been very happy, until this issue popped up! Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer,We apologize for the NIC card issue you are experiencing with this motherboard. If you decide to RMA the board please contact us at http://vip.asus.com/eservice/usa_rmaserv.aspx so that we can assist you with the RMA process.Sincerely,ASUS Support Team |

Really?
Cons: None, purchased this board for a friend who just acquired an AMD 965 BE. 140watt compatibility was a must for him, and so are the various usb's. This board fulfilled his every need. Raid, 140watt CPU support, solid capacitors. Been running strong for 5 1/2 months now.
Pros: To the guy that purchased an open box item and decided that it should have come with accessories, newegg STATES that ALL accessories in the picture with (whatever open box item) you purchase, are to represent what you ARE NOT getting. Grow up and read. Comment:
Sad that most of the problems that people are having with this board, could be solved by a little bit of patience, troubleshooting, and if you're novice; a little bit of research. As I read, I see a lot of symptoms that point to improper board mounting, I.E. NO standoff's, (bolted straight to the case) Or better still, problems that could be solved with a BIOS update. Remember you have no idea when your board was manufactured or what version bios it has until you get it. Be prepared. Tired of seeing " tech level high " on everyone's EZ fix negative feedback. If it's not physically damaged, and you couldn't get it to work....guess what...? Your tech lvl isn't high buddy. |

Alright board
Cons: Not a overclocking boardSecond PCIe port run at x4 modedead after 2 weeks
Pros: CheapBackward compatibilityTwo PCIe Comment:
It is great board at the beginning, it let you do a little overclocking, nothing serious tho.One great thing about it is that it support pretty much all the old Athlon X2 processor and it also let you run Phenom II with it.Other that, look other board if you are a serious gamer or medium level overclocker like me. Beware...
Cons: BEWARE when you buy this motherboard. It appears that about 1 in 6 of these boards are DOA or dead within a short time. Mine was one of those boards. First the LAN and USB ports were buggy and would randomly stop working during normal computer use (web browsing, word processing, etc.). Then the board failed completely and wouldn't POST after a month and a half of usage. It just gave some bogus error about the USB devices. RMA'ed to Asus and they sent the same board right back to me without doing anything. Same exact error the first time I booted my computer. Then 4 separate customer service rep's promised to email me a shipping label so I wouldn't have to pay shipping for the 2nd RMA but they never sent me one. The 4th rep even told me that the other 3 hadn't even applied for one for me. After the 2nd RMA the board worked for about 3 months then failed again with the same USB error. Maybe after the 3rd RMA I will get a usable board....
Pros: Inexpensive motherboard that has good features....if it works. Comment:
I wish I could just get my money back because I am sure ASUS won't fix the board the 3rd time. The customer service rep's are at best lazy and irresponsible, and at worst they are liars and cheats. I just can't believe they would promise to do something for me on the phone 4 times and never do it. I also cant believe I will be RMA'ing this board a 3rd time. I should have saved the shipping money from RMA's and just bought a better board from another manufacturer. If you want to buy this board, just beware that you are taking a 1 in 6 chance of getting a dead board. Also make sure you RMA it back to Newegg before their deadline is up because you won't get any help from ASUS. I certainly won't ever be buying from ASUS again. No gripe with Newegg of course though, they're still great. Just maybe they could stop stocking ASUS products. Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer,We apologize for this issue you are experiencing with this motherboard. Please contact us at OC_Support@asus.com and reference case number NE0087 so that we may get more details about your system configuration and assist you in resolving these issues.Sincerely,ASUS Support Team |

Great board AM3 for cheap
Cons: Didn't come with a I/O shield backplate though I did buy an open box item. Still that should have been included.
Pros: Lots of USB ports, AM3 support, PCI-E 2.0, good bios options. Went together and worked right out of the box with Win7x64. I got this board to upgrade my X2 5400 to a PhenomII 955 and still use the same DDR2-800 memory otherwise I would have gone for something with DDR3. No onboard videocard to clutter things up. Comment:
Get this board if you have some DDR2 memory otherwise get one that has DDR3. |

Cons: None as of yet
Pros: Worked from the box for me, didn't need drivers or anything really, Windows 7 picked them all up automatically. Plenty of options to play with and plenty of slots. I have an avermedia PCI-X card, EVGA PCI-X GTX260, 2 hard drives, and some extra USBs(not tha they where needed). Comment:

Caution to those buying cheap...
Cons: Doesn't work. When I first started it up, I had plugged in a graphics card that was all but ancient. I figured it was too old, so I bought a new card just for this mobo. Turns out the problem is the mobo itself. My brand new Asus 250 Dark Knight GPU did not work on this board, but worked on my 5 year old Dell desktop. Thanks to no working graphics card, this board it rendered completely useless, hence the one star.
Pros: Cheap board, amazing specs. Comment:
I love Asus, but a cheap board is a cheap board. Most of the other products I bought along side this mobo were Asus products, and I am very satisfied with those. In the future I will be sure to put more money into a mobo, to at least insure that I get what I paid for. Cheap motherboard, good when it works
Cons: - Cheap (you get what you pay for) - Onboard LAN controller is extremely flaky - BIOS can't handle some USB devices (with a certain USB keyboard connected, the machine fails to POST about 1 in 3 times) - Wake on LAN is very flaky with a PCI network adapter - I suspect it is the motherboard's fault
Pros: - Inexpensive - Lots of integrated peripherals - Serial and parallel port headers (I bought a serial/parallel combo bracket for those) Comment:
I got this motherboard for my media center PC. Once it manages to boot up, it works great.Having said that, I shouldn't have skimped on the motherboard, and you shouldn't either. I've had good experiences with Asus except for this board. Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer,We apologize for these issues you are experiencing with this motherboard. Great Motherboard
Cons: none
Pros: Great motherboard, have owned it half a year with only the problem of the LAN port going out, but that is easily fixable, read below. Comment:
To fix the LAN port when it goes out, if it does, all you have to do is pop out the cmos battery on the motherboard and put it back in, then the LAN works again, and mine hasnt gone out again since. |
