ASUS RT-N56U Dual Band Multimedia Ultra Slim Wireless Router
Cons:Firmware is somewhat limited, runs a little hot

Pros:Very good router, hardware is top notch and reliable.
Comment:
This is a great little router, runs very well on a standard setup and is easily configurable. Issues come up though if you wish to use it a little differently. I had to get custom firmware to be able to set-up my second unit since Access point wireless link connection only supports Opensystem/None or Opensystem/WEP only.

ASUS RT-N56U Dual Band Multimedia Ultra Slim Wireless Router
Cons:Stock firmware is not so great

Pros:Fast, reliable LAN speeds, good wireless coverage. USB ports for external storage
Comment:
I have had this router for nearly a year and so far have been quite satisfied with it. Wifi speeds are excellent, with few dropped connections. USB ports for network storage is a nice feature too. Easy to set up, took less than 10 minutes. The stock firmware is not so great though. Once I put custom firmware on it I had no trouble whatsoever. Overall, well worth the price for a quality router.

Cons:Not the greatest stock firmware

Pros:speed almost as fast as wired connection

As a previous user mentioned, it's best to use custom firmware for this router. I had alot of disconnect issues until i switched to the custom firmware. issue solved and it now works great. The speeds on 5 G are as fast as a wired connection.

ASUS RT-N56U Dual Band Multimedia Ultra Slim Wireless Router
Cons:-The bandwidth at 2.4ghz kept getting clogged, changing the password solved it though lol.

Pros:-Dual Band-Cheap-Super easy to set up-reasonable price-It simply works, much reviewed and tested product, all I wanted.
Comment:
Old Cisco router kept disconnecting all the users in the house so I decided to replace it with this. Worked within 5 minutes of settings it up, very simple and just works. After dealing with whole bunch of PC problems for the past couple of weeks along with midterms, sometimes you just want to buy a well testing product that simply works with no headache :)Will buy again.

Cons:not all the firmware works well (keeps the wireless connection alive)

Pros:WorksMore range than my old g routerGood GUI

Close to when I got it, I decided to update  the firmware to the latest (1.0,1.8n). With this firmware I lost connection on the wireless a few times over a few days so I reverted back to what I got from the factory (1.0.1.7f) which seems better. I haven't had many issues at all, but this has cropped up:- Using an external drive as a network drive has been used a couple times, but was flaky one time. Possibly a user error, didn't do further testing to be sure.- Router does loose connection to the ISP every couple days for some reason, not really sure why. (ISP problem? Router issue?) This disconnect never lasts long, 1-2 min at most.

Pros:2usb ports

It worked extremely well for 7mths. I decided to change 2.4ghz wifi channels to eliminate interference from a neighbour. I did several changes monitoring surrounding wifi with the program inSSIDe.Admin control panel freezed. I went through a thorough procedure in attempts to fixing the problem from hard resets/fresh recent firmware updates. I even discussed the issues with Asus support.Death of this product simply from changing wifi channels. I'm not suprised a consumer grade router failing in several years but 7mths was truly a disappointment.

ASUS RT-N56U Dual Band Multimedia Ultra Slim Wireless Router
Cons:Keeps dropping signal.

Pros:Stylish Design, When it works it works really well!
Comment:
I am really surprised on the amount of great reviews this router has on here! If you look in the forum section for this item you'll even see people bashing it as it really has a hard time working. Lots of dropped signal (I've tested other routers with keeping everything else the same so I know it's a problem with the router). Even updating to the knew firmware didn't help. The router is useless to me now and I really wish I waited for it a few months after it was released since there are a lot of people online having issues. There is a 3rd part firmware which I will try, if this finally does not work then this router is going into the garbage.

Got this to replace my trusty DIR-625 that worked great for a bunch of years but lately was having problems with all the wireless devices in the home. At times we could have ~5 wireless and couple wired connections hammering at it and never had an issue with it while in Dual Band mode. There's no DD-WRT or Tomato firmware written yet but I'm hopping that will happen soon even though the ASUS one works fine.A bit pricey but as loong as it works I'm a happy buckaroo :)

ASUS RT-N56U Dual Band Multimedia Ultra Slim Wireless Router
Cons:None so far

Pros:firmware updates; GUI interface; ease of quick setup; ease of advanced setup; simultaneous 5GHz and 2.4GHz wireless streaming; 1Gb wired transfer; Inexpensive
Comment:
I'm using this in a mixed environment (Mac, Linux, Windows, iOS, etc.). Too many damn good features to list. No drawbacks from what I can see. Never had a single issue in 4 months. Even allows one to attach 2 USB devices (e.g., hard drives) to create  a quick and easy NAS within a minute. No need so far to hack the router (e.g. Tomato) since it already allows all the features one needs. Price is good for what you get to, very fair.

Pros:- Ease of set up- Love the interface- Better signal strength- Looks pleasing to the eye- Awesome uptime, stable
Comment:
So I decided to wait a month before writing a review to see how this router performed. It has met and exceeded my expectations. Before I bought this router, I read some threads where they said the interface was slow. This is not the case. You make a change and it'll take 5 seconds or so, it does not take minutes. The interface is laid out well. I did not update  to the latest firmware, it works straight out of the box (yes I'm lazy). Traffic monitor is awesome. So far the router has been really stable. I haven't had to reset it. It's paired with Shaw BB50 (Cisco modem in bridge mode). This was an upgrade from my 5 year old Linksys 54g. I would say it's money well spent.I was going back and forth between the Netgear 3700, Linksys 3200 and the Asus. I'm glad I picked the Asus, even though I came from a very reliable Linksys. I would def buy this router again.I'm currently using the router with 1 wired PC, 2 wirelss PCs, 1 Wii, 1 Playbook, 4 iPhones, and 1 PS3. Speeds are good and stable. Dual band works like a charm.

Bought it couple days ago from NCIX. This is the best router I ever had.Initially, I got problem with the built-in printer server. I contacted ASUS technical support and they immediately send me a beta firmware. The printer problem is solved by this beta firmware with LPR protocol.

Purchased this to replace a generic D-link 601 wireless N router. I wanted something that could handle the amount of traffic I go through with my usenet stuff. My BB50 speeds increased a bit over 10Mb/sec, and I get roughly 25% more signal strength throughout my condo.I have heard of some people complaining about the web interface being slow, mine takes less then 2 seconds to make/save any changes with my setup so i am not sure what that is about. I did update  to the latest firmware immediately out of the box so maybe that significantly increased the load times.Overall, it has been stable and I have not noticed any issues with gaming, plus all three computers web pages load much quicker. Highly recommend.

Great product, for anyone willing to spend the money for a router this would be a great choice. As there are a lot of cheaper routers out there I strongly believe that you get what you pay for. Ive replaced an old, unstable dir-615 router with this. Ive had strong, consistent, and stable wifi connections for my laptop since. I do not regret purchasing this. recommended!

ASUS RT-N56U Dual Band Multimedia Ultra Slim Wireless Router
Cons:none that I've seen yet

Pros:loaded with features
Comment:
Got this wi-fi router last week. Set up was quick and easy. This thing is loaded with lots of features and they all seem to work very well. I really like the built-in USB ports: I've connected a 2TB external hard drive, and I've mapped a network drive from my Windows computers and use it as a Network Attached Storage device. Fast and reliable. It's also great for sharing music, video and photos with my two PlayStations because it has a built-in UPnP streaming server.I'm also using the built-in PPTP VPN client on the WAN connection to connect to a paid VPN service I have in the USA. This allows me to watch American Netflix. I will probably buy a second one so that I'm not sending all of my web traffic through the VPN connection unnecessarily. For the price, you won't find a router with so many features. And performance-wise, it's about as good as they get.
