ASUS Xonar D1 Sound Card
Cons:Some windows explorer 'clicking' sounds seem to only produce part of their sound sometimesSome gaming issues but probably mostly due to system load - choppiness of sound

Pros:Mostly goodUsed for gaming, music, and movies with headphones
Comment:
This card is clear and produces good sound but is not flawless. It is adequate and I suggest getting the 2013 beta drivers if you use Win7. Music and movies sound great. It's mostly good in games and does what it should but sometimes, not often, produces mild choppiness in sound. The EAX abilities in this card are great! The card sometimes exudes an inability to completely produce certain fast sounds like when navigating windows explorer windows give a click. This issue doesn't seem to appear any other time.I would recommend this card for it's clear sound and what has been a smooth driver experience. There are many options in the drivers and they seem powerful. I would also suggest a buyer be clear that this card has its minor issues.Overall I would potentially buy this card again but would possibly consider an X-Fi Titanium HD because of the better surround with headphones(CMSS-3D) and hopes of this cards minor weaknesses being alleviated.

listening to music. Dolby Headphone is my favourite function.DS3D GX2. EAX emulation permits playing games in their EAXHD setting. Rightmark recognizes EAX help of not only EAX5 but of EAX3 and EAX4 aswell, beneath Direct Sound 3d. Nonetheless, Rightmark reports that none of these attributes exist beneath OpenAL. I find the effects subtle, and cannot comment on their emulation accuracy as I have no basis for comparison. But it's a welcomed feature by me.Common sound quality seems extremely very good. It's really hard to describe all of these factors as cons, taking into consideration how the card is priced. There have clearly been cuts. But most of these cuts are in the kind of connectivity. The card lacks in the location of spdif or optical connection. There is just a single shared connection for optical out, line in, and mic in on the rear of the card. There isn't any kind of optical input that I am conscious of. The front panel does not auto detect, it need to be manually set. Note that while FP audio is utilised, it does not interupt optical output. DS3D GX attributes perform very best at lower sample prices. This, I think, is likely the bulk of any troubles linked with gaming with this feature. Lower your sample price down to around 48khz, and you will discover most of the challenges fixed. No issues with RS Vegas two or Fallout 3 right here. I associate these difficulties with CPU usage, which is a bit greater than that of my HTO Striker 7.1 at a imply of 4.78% under DS3d+EAX, and 3.89% w/o EAX. In addition notes relating to CPU utilization:HTO Striker 7.1 = mean of 3.27% beneath DS3D+EAX and 2.66% w/o EAX.Philips PSC604(CMI 8738, Qsound) = mean of two.15% beneath DS3D+EAX and 1.95% w/o EAX. The Xonar was tested utilizing Dolby Headphone and 48khz sample price.Just some meals for thought.

Immediately after reading the horror stories about the installation headaches of the other significant sound card maker, decided to go with this.Installation on WinXP SP3 was a snap. All I had to do prior to installing the card was to disable onboard sound. Sounds wonderful even with my low-finish logitech X-140's. Yes I can tell a distinction even with low finish speakers. Does not look to load up the CPU that significantly a lot more. Rather high-priced, but rebates and other cashback offers sweeten the deal. Was waiting for the ASUS Xonar stereo, supposedly the low finish ASUS sound card for those who only want excellent stereo sound (no X.1 and so forth), but jumped the gun on this a single. Not an avid gamer, I only run FS2004 (with a lot of addons) and listen to music.Gamers beware there appears to be a lot of games out there not able to take advantage of the card however.Asus has released a beta driver that is newer than what was on the incorporated CD. In the description it does not seem to fix too a lot of troubles.I utilized the driver on CD anyway.

better than the onboard sound card. it will convert analog to DTS useing the optical cable(not integrated) i have to say this card sucks for gameing. iv tryed playing games with a bunch of diffent settings. the onboard i have sounds alot much better when playing games. the low profile set up makes it hard to plug in nicer three.5 mm jacks.

Simply superb sound quality. Really straightforward to set up and use. Software has nice selections for adding effects to increase sound good quality. Will surely be acquiring FLAC music from now on! Sound improvement on mid-range Logitech speakers (simple two satellite + sub) was astounding! Application package was a little difficult to use and relies as well heavily on graphics (had no concept what was what at initially) and does not have a constructed in mixer. Want there was such a point as computer software that recognizes compression element on mp3s... (poorer high quality mp3s sounded much far better *without* making use of the effects to improve sound) Practically nothing else to say - superb!

Excellent cost following rebate. Outstanding testimonials from Egg users. I reviewed just about each sound card in stock and this one particular was a confident winner! Excellent service from Newegg. The card played at HALF SPEED. A higher female voice sounded like a low male voice and it was quite incredibly sloooow. I attempted the card in my new Vista Computer, then mounted it in my old computer system with XP. Identical result in both situations. It even slowed down UTube audio to half speed. I posted my dilemma on my Pc's manufacturer forum but got no responses. I contacted ASUS consumer service for enable. Following waiting 17 minutes, a human came on the line and volunteered to take my name and quantity simply because they have been incredibly busy. He mentioned I should get a return get in touch with within about four hours. No 1 ever called back. Immediately after tweaking the card for the next handful of days (without achievement) I named ASUS once again. After the obligatory wait, the initially rep I talked to put me on hold but really threw my get in touch with back into the waiting cue. A diverse rep answered after one more ten minutes and I explained my scenario once more from the begin. He had in no way heard of this difficulty ahead of and I had previously attempted all of his suggestions. My plans for an HTPC are now on hold. I consider I just drew a bad card from the start off. I returned it to Newegg due to the fact I didn't have the trust or willingness to deal with ASUS client service again if I needed their "help" with a replacement card.

Great sound and effortless if basic interface. Great quality construct and materials Poor drivers from Asus. The drivers for Asus are not any greater than Inventive. They have slow service and updates I was utilizing this in an HTPC, but this sound card conflicts with my Tv tuner. It will record Television, but has no picture. This has been confirmed in two various computers with 3 various sound cards. One particular computer was a brand new install. The similar setups function fine with yet another sound card. For the value this must not be the case. It makes me sick as this card seriously sounds best otherwise. But it is clearly an HTPC card so be advised. I use Hauppauge Television cards. I have not tested with another Television card.

Awesome sound via the internal SPDIF to my 9800 GTX+ card out the DVI through adapter to my reciever. The sound is so clear you can actually hear a pin drop and it immerses you in any film you watch. None as of but. I dont have a speaker set up for my computer system so I dont know what the sound would be like with gaming but I am sure if the sound from the movies are coming out fantastic the gaming would equal.

It is a fantastic card for the dollars. Low noise, clean and clear sound. I am utilizing it in a MIDI machine in our church. Our keyboard is hooked up to a Pc by way of MIDI to USB. On the Pc i am operating Explanation. We use it for distinct synths and instruments. It offers clean playback via our pa. The samples sound excellent via this card as well as a functionality enhance as for as midi lag in Explanation. Retail box looks quite wimpish. Good card for the money. Have not tested it with gaming which it was genuinely made for but it performs excellent for music playback and reproduction.

Nonetheless operating soon after a yearGood good quality sound. The very few characteristics that the card and software program have are terrible. The software looks like it was ported from a prior card, as 90% of the capabilities are disabled or don't do a point. The card cannot even play a video's audio on far more than one speaker channel. Current driver updates have fixed several challenges, but the card was plagued with a plethora of problems for a lengthy time. Customer Assistance was fully useless, each on-line and on the telephone. The Creative cards are a far much better worth; devote the additional dollars for an X-Fi. I bought this card to replace an old creative card that was no longer compatible with my OS. I deeply regret not finding yet another Inventive.

Crystal clear sound with no noise at all using the front headphone jack. Even my old Xfi that this replaced had a loud hiss from the front panel jack, but not this card. Sound is crystal clear, bass is fuller and much less muddy than prior to. Movies sound amazing. I've heard subtle sounds in games that I in no way noticed just before. EAX assistance is fantastic for the games that assistance the version this card provides. I leave this card in Movie mode simply because the other presets aren't excellent. Game sounds alright, but it's challenging to inform the difference. The Music setting sounds ok with some music, but has odd sounding final results with other songs. Hi-Fi mode seems to do the opposite and muddy up the sound.Front headphone detection is broken. Some people claim that this card can detect headphones fine, some say it detects them when plugged in but not when removed, but mine does neither. I have to manually allow and disable the front headphone jack. I knew this when I purchased the card so I won't mark it down, and it's much less annoying switching back and forth than I thought it would be. Just be warned. I don't have a fancy speaker setup, just a very good two.1 setup and headphones, so I can't comment on any surround sound capabilities. I don't record something (just mic use in games), so I can't comment there. For my desires, this card is the very best value out there proper now.

Im not a fan or the user interface either. I owned the xf-i xtreme gamer as nicely. which in comparison delivers superior sound top quality more than this card. Only if inventive supplied superior driver help.

It's greater than Creative and doesn't crash on you Their set up software is odd, for some cause if you have a five.1 set up, it asks you to set up the rear speakers as side spakers. It's not compatible with AMD 780몮 boards, and they've been promising a fix. I just identified out by going to their web page. Only acquiring 2.1 channels it does not recognize my rear speakers no matter exactly where I plug the wires to. I've tried switching them about in each and every configuration and nonetheless no rear speakers. C/S is Horrible Well, Asus is truly going down hill I was on hold for 15-20 mins? And got disconnected, C/S didn't help any, following I told them the problem initially hand, and we nevertheless went more than the script with my problems shooting. Following many reviews, I believed this was my answer to Creative. I was wrong, I went from one problems to one more. I want to have good clear five.1 sounds, my onboard is so flat and mundane it doesn't excite me when playing games. And Realtek nevertheless have not come out with a non beta release for restoring Vista 64, five.1 sounds. In some games the levels are off, or keeps resetting.I'm going to try another brand, that I knew I ought to have went with in the 1st location, I went for this for the price tag, and nicely, you get what you spend for. Who knows maybe it performs much better on XP, but I'm not in a rush to locate out.

All I required was a stereo card like the M-audio, but this has a 24롘 DAC like the Cambridge cdp in my living space. I needed that to go with the Aric Audio 1.5 tube preamp I would be sending this to. Sounds so a lot greater than the old Audigy 2 card I was employing. Involving the DAC and the ษ rebate, that sold me on the card. My speakers are house produced. .38 cabs with 76 watt biamps in every. feeding four ohm Peerless 5 1ǚ inch subs and Beston ribbon tweeters. These monoblocks confident sound extra nice now. The software is much more than I need to have getting I only run stereo. If you need a excellent DAC for your Computer this is the 1. Extremely quiet. Really matches well with a tube preamp. Utilizing a Telefunken 12AT7 with it.

Bought two of them for 2 consumers that entertain a lot and wanted the comptuers do handle their music. Card was easy to install on VISTA and XP. I liked that it could be formatted to low profile (needed for the vista box). And that it has a TOSLINK for digital sound. Both shoppers believed it sounded superior to their onboard audio and were happy. I have 1600 dollar speaker method and i was unable to hear the distinction :( but i may well have poor hearing and i think there speaker systems were much better then mine. The computer software if you determine to mess with it didn't make a lof ot sense to me. So i just left it alone. I liked this card more than teh inventive labs 1's. Very first time going away from sound blaster brand and was content with final results.
