This is my third Brother laser printer and the only reason i got this to replace my other was because my crappy Lexmark multifunction inkjet died, but it was old and big and ugly and such. The 1030 i replaced this with was still going strong, but now that's been donated to a friend. It's not that loud like people say, and it's fast. Best band for your buck |

Works out of the box.
Cons: Comes with a half-capacity toner cartridge.
Pros: I took it out of the box, took the miles of blue tape off of everything, inserted the toner, plugged it in, and it worked. Without installing any of the included software, it scanned and printed on Windows XP 64-bit SP2 (not using Windows Update for drivers, just regular search.) Comment:

Love it!
Cons: I wish it were a little smaller (??) That's about it. I saw that someone else said this machine was loud - I don't see that. It's no louder than any other office copier I've had.
Pros: Super easy and quick to set-up. I love the duplex printing feature because it really saves paper! This thing is FAST! By the time I get up and walk to the printer to retrieve the copies, it's finished printing. The print quality is great, too! Toner is cheap - I recommend the 360 over the 330 because it's the high yield ink and will go a lot further for your money. I do a lot of printing, so this is important. Comment:

Great Machine!
Cons: I've had this machine over a year and the print quality is starting to have splotches here and there on the copies. BUT I've printed over 8000 copies from this little brother so maybe it's time to do some maintenance (check the drum, glass etc?) All in all great machine.
Pros: Fast! The toner cartridge that comes with this printer is stellar. It boast 2500 B&W copies! I'm a college student and I print a LOT of copies. Quality of the print has been top notch (until recently, I think I need to clean the glass). The doc feeder works really well. This machine can print, scan and copy! Comment:

Inexpensive fast printing
Cons: Expensive drum / Makes the lights flicker due to its power consumption.
Pros: Fast printing / Very cheap OEM toner if you keep your eyes open for a deal and or a coupon. Comment:

All-In-One doesn't mean All-In-One
Cons: This was my fault for not reading the specifications. All-In-One in this case doesn't include a Fax. I assumed a Fax was standard with All-In-One's, but not in this case. The box it comes it says it's a Laser-Multi Function Copier, so if you're looking for an All-In-One with a Fax, get something else. This one will Copy/Print/Scan only.
Pros: Copy quality and speed is nice. I don't think it's any noiser than my HP Laserjet 6L it's replacing. Setup was straight forward and the software is decent. I like the copy and the total printed counter, and the Parts Life percentage's. Comment:

not windows 2003 compatible, power hog
Cons: The software will not even install under windows 2003 server. Plus, when the printer is on, occasionally my room lights dim and my pc/server would shutoff if not for the apc, which constantly goes into battery mode.
Pros: I didn't buy it from newegg, thus I'm not out shipping at least. Comment:

I have this printer connected to my Apple Airport Extreme Gigabit base station and it works like a charm for printing from all of my Windows and Mac machines. Brother has made it extremely easy to install the drivers (and they've even already updated themselves on the Mac), so the entire setup was under 5 minutes. I love the fact that I can also use this printer as a standalone photocopier--and cheaply since it's a laser printer. Of course, network scanning would be a plus, but that's not the printer's fault. If I need to scan docs or pictures (rarely would I) then I can just connect it directly to my Mac and use it from there. But 99.9% of the time, I just print documents over the network and make photocopies. Great printer! |
