Picked this up to use with Shaw Motorola DCT6416 as a DVR/PVR expander (the on sale/price match price was cheaper than Shaw's sale price for their Western Digital PVR Expander).For some reason this unit does not come with an eSATA cable (despite what the user's guide seems to indicate). It does come with 3 Firewire cables and a USB cable. The unit is reasonably slim, though a bit longer than I expected. There is an external power supply brick.If you are using it for a PVR Expander for Shaw Motorola DCT: UNPLUG the power from your DCT (do not just power off). Connect the eSATA cable, then power up the Drivestation - give it 30 seconds or so, then plug your DCT back in to the AC and power it up. My DCT took about 20 seconds to come back to life, and when it did it prompted to format the external drive it had just discovered.I have not used this beyond that functionality so I'm not currently aware of any other issues (i.e. performance, USB/Firewire connectivity). That said, whatever disk is in there is a little bit noisy - you can hear it clicking away (softly). The Blue LED that comes on at Power Up flashes as the unit is being accessed and is bright enough to act as a night light in a dark room. Not that noticeable given the light the TV is giving off. Bought several for clients becase the price was right.One of my units ended up being used in FW800 mode, but stopped reading shortly thereafter. No access from that point on.So a cruise to the buffalo forums indicates this is a known and prevalent issue, with no fix other than to not use the FW800. Lovely. Going to rip the drive out and slave it up in a diffent enclosure that works. Not worth the time or expense to RMA this POS to buffalo just to get a unresolved defect-prone unit back.
