Cables to Go USB 2.0 to IDE or Serial-ATA Drive Adapter Black
Cons: Occasionally a drive would not work properly depending on the USB port used. Rear USB seems to be the more reliable.

Pros: Very good for quick retrieval of documents from a corrupted OS install, or virus infected HDD. Handles nearly every hard drive I've tried and CD/DVD ROM drives
Comment:
I've been using this cable kit at my job doing computer recovery, data transfer and re-installation of OS. It is VERY convenient for recovering data for clients since I do not need to rely on their computer working to get the data back for them. I can simply haul the drive out and place it on my desk and away we go.Transfer speeds were pretty excellent. Cables 2 Go seemed like a cheap brand, and I didn't expect too much, but I was thoroughly impressed. Great buy for anybody who does PC work for friends or has a small business in data recovery.

Cables to Go USB 2.0 to IDE or Serial-ATA Drive Adapter Black
Cons: none

Pros: compact, price, functional
Comment:
An excellent adapter for temporarily connecting either IDE or SATA harddrives to your computer. I like the on/off switch on the cable to control power to the drive. And the IDE connector being keyed is a real plus. No reason to pay more for other brands.

Cables to Go USB 2.0 to IDE or Serial-ATA Drive Adapter Black
Cons: -Not perfect compatibility.

Pros: -Handy kit to have around-Cheap price
Comment:
I use this to pull files off my clients' drives when they screw up their OS's, and just want to save a few things then reformat. Most people have SATA drives - but this also works for older PATA drives. I do prefer Thermaltake's BlacX docks for SATA drives - but quite often people ask to buy them off me, so I keep this around for when I'm between-ownership.Great price. Does the job. Unlike an older nGear PATA-only adapter, this one seems to have less compatibility issues with boards. New firmware revision, maybe?

Worked for what I needed it to do!
Comment:
I bought this item to add to my tech support bag... when a laptop drive crashed it was always a pain to have to boot to linux through the cd drive... and then recover files off a dead drive to a flash drive. With this product I can take the drive and hook it up to my workstation and pull everything off I need. This product is a needed in every computer tech's bag of tricks!

Great Product To Have
Comment:
Works with both IDE and SATA laptop and desktop hard drives. So far, all features work right out of the box and I haven't had to finagle with anything to get it to work. Plug everything in, turn it on, plug into USB port and bang, hello external drive. I've used it to clone my internal drive to a external drive, backup my internal drive to an external drive, and copy user data files back from an external drive to an internal drive after performing a new install of Windows. I really like the on off switch so that you can power the unit on or off without having to unplug the power adapter like a lot of other similar products. Anyone that does any type of pc service or repair should have one (or 2!) of these kits in their bag at all times.

Gets the job done
Comment:
This is one kind of product that every tech should have in their bag of tricks. Even for non-tech people, the ability to turn any internal SATA or IDE drive into a USB external drive opens up a world of possibilities. I used this to easily test 5 different linux distros (live CDs) on a netbook, without the need to kill one of my few flash drives, or buy a less versatile USB only drive.

Simply AWESOME!
Comment:
This thing has saved me so much time, so many times! I've successfully grabbed files off a Vista(x64) and backed them up to an XP (x86) machine and then put them back onto a Windows 7(x64) machine. So much faster than copying through the network. No access restrictions when dealing with multiple profiles. This is by far the best $$ I have EVER spent in the PC world.

Arrived on time. I wanted to back up an integral drive on a dead machine before sending it for warranty repair. Took a while to figure out the split cable for SATA connection to the Hitachi drive. (The 2 connectors are jammed next to each other so that it looks like 1 connector. hp laptop actually uses 1 connector, hence the confusion.) A picture or printed hint would help. After that everything worked fine.

Perfect Solution
Comment:
This cable was exactly what I needed for transferring files from my VERY old hard drives to my new PC. It took a minute to notice that there is a power switch located on the power cable, but after that, smooth sailing!

Just what I needed!

I've been able to recover data off of four hard drives during the past two weeks - this product has saved me a lot of time and effort! And now all of those old hard drives laying around are finally good for something again - with this product, you can reuse them for external data storage!

Good enough most of the time
Comment:
Works great with IDE drives. With SATA drives, I am always able to get them working, but Windows doesn't always find the drive. You will either have to assign the drive in Disk Management, or reboot the host machine. Otherwise, it does its job well enough. Power switch feels pretty flimsy.

Outstanding product
Comment:
This product is simple to use, does exactly what it is suppose to do and is a versatile product. I was loading each of my old hard drives to get my saved material off such as pictures, and videos (memories). I fussed for months with the computers to try to back these up to my external hard drive. Finally one day I found this online. I wish I would have known these things existed earlier, I could have saved myself months of agony. Great product and great company and I will recommend this company and this product to all my computer buddies, family and friends.

Great product
Comment:
Simple to use, does all it says, Saves installing drives in a hard case just to check contents, also using for backup to bare drives that have accumulated in changing from PATA to SATA . Particularly like the on off switch in the drive power cord. Just follow the hookup sequence in the instructions. Features should include lights indicating drive connection and use.
