Good choice so far
Cons: Initial set-up marred by constant network drops - solution below.
Pros: UPnP discovery, wireless G with support for WPA2, scanning support (check the compatibility list on D-Link's web site) Comment:
So far my only complaint is how this thing apparently deals with having a wired and wireless network connection. Mine came out of the box with firmware revision 1.21.Using a wired connection to configure the radio to connect wirelessly went fine. However, once it rebooted, the print server couldn't hold a network connection of any sort. I figured it should fall back on the wired connection if the wireless dropped, but that's apparently not how it works. So, in my experience, if you want to connect this to your wireless network, you have to connect it to your wired network, configure it to connect wirelessly, and finally, when you reboot it, you must disconnect the wire.It appears to be able to hold either a WPA or WPA2 connection to my Linksys WRT-54G without issue now. For those who care, I'm running DD-WRT v23 sp2 micro on the router. It's running both AES and TKIP algorithms, so I'm not sure which the print server is using. |

Terrible product
Cons: I have several D Link products, including a previous version of their print server which I was very happy with. This print server is one of the of the weakest products I have ever used. Documentation was terrible, tech support was worse. The web interface to acess the print server was tempermental and had the attempt to acess a dozen times before it loaded. Sending files takes forever - no buffer to speak of - and then larger documents hang. A total waste of money.
Pros: None Comment:

Wireless, use WPA2-PSK(AES)
Cons: Do not use WPA-PSK as DPR-1260 will keep on dropping the wireless connections.
Pros: This unit works great with firmware 1.24 and either wired or wireless with WPA2-PSK(AES). I have HP Photosmart C5550 (scanning supported by DPR-1260) and Canon imageCLASS MF3240 (scanning not supported by DPR-1260). Quite happy with the unit once it is working properly. Comment:

Works with unsupported
Cons: Can't get status return: Low Ink, out of paper, etc
Pros: Works with stuff not explicitly supported: Vista Business SP2, Epson R260, Samsung ML-2010. IMPORTANT to upgrade DPR-1260 to latest firmware, install latest printer drivers before configuring. Despite others' experience, no problems with XP Pro SP3, WPA2 TPIK, DHCP. Comment:
Didn't call D-Link tech spt or Epson tech spt. |

I'm a happy camper now
Cons: Initial setup over ethernet was okay, but wireless setup was a major PITA! The Quick Install Guide and the User Manual, while coherent, skip some basic info. Don't assume as I did that the device will autonegotiate to plain old 802.11G from Dlink's Rangebooster G.
Pros: 4 USB ports. Small footprint. Reasonable price on NewEgg. NewEgg delivery. Very easy setup on other PCs once you get it working -- but see Cons. Works with my older Epson Stylus Photo R200. Comment:
Here are the steps that it took to get mine working (thanx 2 'artdecko' in Dlink's DPR-1260 forum):1. Flash the device with latest firmware (v1.24).2. Reset to factory defaults; should retain firmware update.3. Disconnect device power, ethernet. Reconnect power. Reattach direct ethernet.4. Configure Networking Settings under Setup tab. Select static address, enter fixed IP to which assigned (in router), configure gateway IP (from router), save. 5. Configure Wireless Settings under Setup tab. Wireless on, manually enter SSID; select encryption type & add key, select Infrastructure (for my network, maybe not yours) & SuperG mode DISABLED.6. Reboot. Disconnect direct ethernet. Recycle router, then recycle the DPR-1260. DLink should now be wireless & recognized on network.7. Print drivers were already configured from previous install attempt; your's may not be. Time to install, configure now.8. Wireless printing should work thru File/Print menu or Print icon. |

Cons: None.

This was the 1st time I used one of these and had some problems with the install and getting it to work. Once I read the instructions it worked fine. |

How to make an HP 1018 work with a DPR-1260
Cons: - Installing the HP 1018 printer proved rather challenging and I was unable to find any procedures for making it work. I figured out how to make it all work and have posted the installation procedure below. The results were confirmed by successful installation on 3 current Lenovo laptops. - Save yourself a headache and just access your print server by typing "dlink-XXXXXX" into the url bar of your browser, where "XXXXXX" is the last 6 characters of the MAC address of the DPR-1260 print server (as noted in the instructions for a Windows 2000 install). - I don't have an all-in-one printer, so I couldn't try that part out :(
Pros: - Really easy to install compatible printers. Installing a 10 year old Deskjet 895cxe was completely effortless. - User interface is quite good. Comment:
Here's how I got the HP 1018 printer to work with the DPR-1260 in Windows XP. 0 - Disconnect the HP 1018 from your computer, if it is attached. 1 - Remove all HP 1018 installations in "Printers and Faxes" in the control panel.2 - Download and install the latest firmware for the DPR-1260. 3 - Downloadl the " HP LaserJet Host Based Print Driver Package" for the HP 1018 from the HP website. Extract the file and allow the *.exe file to install the new drivers. 4 - Plug the USB cable for the HP 1018 directly into the USB port of your computer and allow Windows to install it automatically. When this is done, print a test page (for good measure). After a successful test page, disconnect the printer's USB cable from your computer and remove the newly installed HP 1018 from "Printers and Faxes". 5 - Install the HP 1018 by the directions supplied with the DPR-1260. Print a test page to make sure it all worked. 6 - Repeat procedure for each computer that uses the HP 1018 printer. |

Severely dissapointed
Cons: I bought this print server for two features: First, it had my printer (an older HP Photosmart 7350) listed as compatible. Second, it also has a range booster feature, which would definitely be handy in my new home. Sadly, I wasn't able to get either feature working. The print server kept getting hung up on the installation. After adjusting the uPNP feature on my desktop (which D-Link's instructions were quite thorough on), I was ready to install the printer drivers to the DPR-1260. Unfortunately, it kept insiting it could not locate the drivers on my install CD. I also downloaded a new set of drivers from HP, unpacked them, and again wasn't able to install them. After this, I tried contacting D-Link's foreign-based tech support and referred back to HP for driver problems. I don't believe the problem is on HP's end - the 7350 is several years old and the printer works fine with either the new or old driversThe server also kept dropping offline when used as a range booster
Pros: I am unable to list any...could never get this product to work as intended. Comment:
I admit, I had reservations about buying another D-Link product after I had a D-Link wireless router fail after approximately 7 months back in '06 or so. But I chalked it up to a fluke and decided to give them another try since this print server seemed to have everythng I needed. Between lazy tech support and a product that cannot recognize printer drivers that it specifically lists as supporting, I am finished with wasting my money on D-Link products. If I could rate this product any lower than 1 egg, I would. This has been my first and only RMA request to Newegg after years of buying computer accessories from them. I am hoping the RMA experience goes smoothly and I will gladly continue shopping at Newegg. |

Update on 8/18/2009 review
Cons: It is buggy scanning from the PC with the Epson RX500 and will not work when trying to do a scan with Java Applet inside I.E. 8 (i.e. trying to scan things to online banking).(Even with their recommended driver download) Otherwise this would be perfection...
Pros: It prints fine with the HP 1320 LJ.It does recognize the Epson RX500 All-in-One as a scanner in the HTML interface, but... Comment:
Before I bought this for use with an HP 1320LJ and an Epson RX500, I mistakingly interpreted from D-Links "approved listing" that it worked with Epson RX500's. |

Great Product, Perfect for my small business
Cons: Not really any cons to this product. The only thing I can complain about is that the users' manual is not very clear and sometimes confusing. Its not over the top terrible, but there is definitely room for improvement.
Pros: Small and compact design. Product comes with a vertical plastic stand and wall mounting hardware. Installation was tricky at first, but overall easy. Great wireless signal, all computers in the office have perfect wireless communication with the unit. Even the computers located in the floor above can communicate perfectly. The unit is placed by several other wireless devices and yet the signal strength of the DPR-1260 is unaffected. Wireless printing is pretty fast as well...even when multiple computers are printing. You can attach a total of 4 printer to the print server. Currently the office only uses 2. Overall, this is a great product, it does the job well. All 16 computers in the office can now print effortlessly over the wireless connection. Comment:
I have read a few complaints about this product and I think I can give some advise for those having difficulty.First I recommend that you read through installation part of the users' manual (found on supplied CD) before you attempt installation. Please keep in mind that an ethernet connection is REQUIRED before you can use the wireless feature.1.) Connect printer and ethernet cable to DPR-1260 before powering on unit. After hardware is connected, power on DPR-1260.2.) Open a web browser and type in http://dlink-xxxxxx where the X's is the last 6 digits of the MAC ID, more details in users' manual. 3.) Follow users' Manual to setup DPR-1260 for the first time, do not install printer yet!4.) Install printer drivers on all computers that will be using the print server.5.) Follow the printer install wizard on the http://dlink-xxxxxx user interface.6.) Download and install executable, click "Run." make sure you have administrator privileges! Or else you might encounter pr |

Cons: Sat on phone with D-Link tech support for 2 + hours and got no where.Had to set up static IP on PC and connect directly to Print server.Could NOT ping print server even with static IP.DLINK print server does not work properly. Does not pull DHCP nor does the built in web server come up.Dlink tech support is USELESS. They refuse to replace the unit for ANY reason.

Works w/ HP1320 LJ and Epson RX500
Cons: So far none with this one.
Pros: Wireless with a Verizon Westell multiport DSL modem actually works w/ an HP 1320 and an Epson RX500 as per the setup instructions. It worked the first time thru setup. Comment:
Instructions booklet reads to imply that you need to disable UPnP in WinXP, but you actually need to ENABLE UPnP while in "My Network Places" to see the device in My Network Places. |

Does exactly what it advertises.
Cons: Since the automated installer requires that some sort of preexisting printer driver be installed, it can be a bit tricky to actually install the printer at times, depending on your printer manufacturer.Still, everything is working perfectly so I've no complaints about that!
Pros: Easy to set up, large range increase, FOUR USB printer support (seriously, where are you going to find this for this kind of price?) Comment:

Works
Cons: Had to reset immediatley during set up, must have had a static IP??? Doesn't work properly with WPA2 security - print Qs just hang. I use it also as a switch for my desktop and it drops max size packets. I had to lower MTU down to 1450 to get it to work.
Pros: Works fine if you dont use WPA2 Comment:

Doesn't work with jumbo frames & poor support
Cons: *The DPR-1260 does not work with jumbo frames. If you have a network storage device, this becomes an issue. I have a D-Link DNS323 network storage device that I use jumbo frames for faster transfers but with that enabled I cannot get to the DPR-1260 to scan or print. Called tech support and they did not have a clue.* Emailed tech support five days ago with no response.* Tech support must be in another country as it was very hard to understand who I was speaking with.
Pros: Can print or scan with any computer on your network as long as you are not using jumbo frames. Comment:
A company should be able to support their products and keep customers happy with good customer service. Every company can offer the same products these days, it's how they treat customers that should set them apart. |

Good price, quick/easy install
Cons: Changing any of the administration and/or device configuration items requires a device reboot. The reboot process flashes a 30 second timer on your browser window. BUT, you don't have to do the reboot process for every change. Make all your changes, then reboot once.
Pros: Everything you need to know to install this product on Win2K or WinXP is in the book and/or in the software loaded on the device. No mention of Vista or Win7 - though setup through Win7 was brain-dead simple.Accessing the device very easy. The booklet says that you need to use a CAT5 connection during initial install - that is, to configure the wireless (that makes sense). What they don't tell you is that once you have it talking wirelessly, you really need to disconnect the CAT5 - the communication between the device and your computer get's really bogged down. Wireless set up was simple and direct. Printer setup was easy ... once I disconnected the CAT5.Device administration is through a browser - pick one. I tried both Firefox 3.0.11 and IE 8 - both worked easily.Once plugged into the USB port, printer recognition was automatic. Comment:
I bought this on the basis of my experience with other D-Link products. I have a 10/100 switch that is something like 5 or 8 years old. It's like Ol' Faithful - never fails and is, in fact, still in service today. I hope this device performs as well. |

Cons: Check the Printer list to make sure your printer will work, unless you are an experienced Tech.
Pros: I rate this print server with 5 stars, however I rate Newegg's customer service a 1. Not being able to drop ship an item is utter and complete garbage. - And the customer service rep wasn't exactly helpful, all I got was a bunch of policy information, and I wasn't even directed to My Account to add the drop address to one of my Newegg addresses. Last D-Link Product I'll Ever Purchase
Cons: Doesn't actually work with all the printers they claim work. Technical Support is a JOKE. Getting an e-mail reply is difficult (5 e-mails in), calling them on the phone is pointless. It would help if SOMEONE in the tech support department understood the English language. It would be REALLY nice if they had some understanding of the product. "Reinstalling the WindowsXP drivers" won't help the "Status" the unit is reporting. Yet that is the only answer I can get. Trying to use any sort of technical term with these ignorant fools is just a joke. What my router has to do with this product reporting the printer as offline is beyond me. I have already removed the few D-Link products on our network, and will NEVER touch this company again.
Pros: Small footprint, easy to setup. Comment:
I am A++ certified and know what I'm doing. If I can't get this pile of junk to correctly work, nobody will. It makes me SOO happy to have to dumb myself down to work with "technical support". |

unfinished business?
Cons: * can't do WPA (see other thoughts) although it's documented as capable* Web interface works but is really slow at times. When loading the "setup" page, for example, if you're using a Mac, the page loads for about 5 minutes (while apparently querying G o d about the reason for its existence) before stating plainly that your operating system is not supported, at which point, you can actually begin configuring it. Same goes for Linux. Also, once it's scanned for nearby wifi networks, it sometimes wants to rescan (for a few minutes) when you change pages.
Pros: * great reception.* displays all nearby networks and their channels* smallish* four USB ports, various options for connecting to printers (TCP/IP, LPD). * works great with WPA2* firmware upgrades Comment:
Upgraded to newest firmware (1.24) easily. It took a while to figure out why I was having issues after switching the router from WPA2 into WPA mode -- this printer server can't use WPA, only WPA2. I tested WPA + AES and did not test TKIP (router & dlink) as that was cracked a long time ago. I ended up flashing the Linksys WRT54g2 router with dd-wrt and putting it in WPA2 Personal Mixed mode, which prefers wpa2 but will drop devices to WPA if they can't handle it (like the Xbox 360 -- gg MS). Three stars because this product is 2-3 years old and still isn't polished.I ended up returning this because the Canon MF4150 that we bought it for cannot do anything but USB with Macs. |
