Garmin Nuvi 255W 4.3" GPS Navigation with Text to Speech

Got this for Christmas this year; works great out of the box, big bright screen, very audible voice directions, very easy to mount to and remove from the windshield with the powerful suction device.

I have a Magellan and I gave this Garmin to someone for Christmas and I can say that this is a very good product. Very, very easy to use. Also, the french voice is better that the one in my Magellan.

We've used the GPS now in two different states and it's worked like a charm. The widescreen display is great and the perspective view seems to have improved from earlier Garmin units. A suprising amount of roads are also marked with the Speed Limit on the display, which was especially nice for us driving out of town for the holidays. The unit is much slimmer than older GPS's, which my wife appreciates and she can just take it with her in her purse when shopping instead of leaving it in the car in the parking lot. Overall, I'd recommend this to anybody looking for a straight-forward, simple to use GPS system that will both find and get them to their destination.

I was on my way to New Orleans with an address of my destination entered into my 255W. The maps were so old that they wanted me to get off I10 in the middle of the Atchafalaya Basin bridge between Lafayette and Batton Rouge and take a different route. I had selected the fastest route to New orleans. This makes my update of my maps usless since I started with outdated maps to begin with. The maps had to be over 30 years old since the bridge across the Atchapalaya Basin is over thirty years old. I am disaponted in this unit.

Wanted a 2nd gps for the wife so figured i would try out garmin. Overall its does the job but i like my TomTom menu features but im sure its just because I am familiar with the tomtom. One thing i hate on this is the voice. It is so computer sounding. The tomtom sounds like real voices and its easy to find celebrity voices to install for free. so bottom line is it does the job my cons are all personal preferences.

I have owned other GPS like Tom Tom and others by far I like the ease of features of this product . If you are looking for a GPS that does break the wallet and with less complicated features this is your GPS.

I PURCHASED 3 OF THESE UNITS. ONE FOR MY HUSBAND WHO OWNS A WRECKER SERVICE AND ONE EACH FOR MY TWO SONS. IT IS A GREAT UNIT FOR THE MONEY. ALTHOUGH IT DOES NOT HAVE SOME OF THE MOST RECENT MAPS AND ROADS WHEN A NEW ROAD HAS BEEN ADDED TO AN AREA, I DO LIKE THE FACT THAT YOU CAN DOWNLOAD UPDATES BUT THE COST FOR THOSE SEEMS A LITTLE HIGH. ALL IN ALL I AM VERY SATISFIED WITH THE COST AND PERFORMANCE OF THE UNIT AND WOULD PURCHASE MORE IN THE FUTURE FOR FRIENDS AND FAMILY.

It's been mostly great with directions within cities, towns, and areas between, but, the maps need to be updated to include rural concession side roads that don't seem to exist on here. Not a fault of this gps, but of the mappers. Otherwise this gps itself has been terrific. Helped me through a snow storm the other night for sure. Lets me know about curves and bends and stops upcoming that otherwise I couldn't see because of white-outs. Very nice directions within cities that I usually get lost in. I recommend a vent clip, however. Too far on the dash, and windshield positions are in your face. Recommended.

This is our first GPS and after much research and shopping around, this had all the features we wanted at a very reasonable price. It takes a while to get used to the verbal directions (turn left on 95 when actually it means don't get off at the exit)but it was very accurate. The ETA was pretty accurate too. We love the ability to look at all the planned directions so we can see where it's taking us. It's fun to explore all its capabilities and we'll like it even more once we become more proficient in using it. I'd highly recommend this brand and model for most people.

This brand was recommended to me over all others available. I was not disappointed with this one. Just got it and have only used it twice thus far but it has worked perfectly. Will be using it often in the new year for business travel. I am excited with 'ALICE' whom I have named my GPS unit.

This is an excellent GPS unit. Only had it for a short period of time, however, so far it works great. Fast start up also. You can't go wrong with this one, buy it!

I am bias to GARMIN and own many of their products. Got my last one stolen and wanted to replace it. The price elsewhere sometimes is the same but they never have any in stock when i show up so i ordered this time around and 3 days later it was home, in perfect condition.

This unit is a great deal. The larger screen makes it so much easier to read than the older models and makes. Worth noting is the price at TD was the best on the internet. The power plug was defective, but Garmin replaced it within five days. No worries here!

I had issues with the 1st one I got from TD, when I called tech support they wanted me to pay for another one and then ship the defective one back for credit. I have been doing business with TD for several years. Never again. Garmin was very helpful and sent a new one with a return label and box. The gps works great, no thanks to TD. They suck
