Cost-effective. Works fine in my household-theater PC (lots of reads and writes). Little noisy. I just purchased a second one of these drives to back up the first one in my property theater pc. You know, just in case.

Rapid, works nicely in my Drobo. Ordered two, one was DOA. Stick to Seagate or Western Digital. These drives had been low-cost so I got two for use in a new Drobo FS with the program to order two additional in the subsequent month as I move my data over. These undoubtedly live up to the Deathstar legend, my first and last time buying Hitachi drives. RMA was quick, kudos to newegg as usual.

Second 1 I own, very first one to come DOA.. was outside the newegg warranty, had to RMA it. It clicked .. alot.. A month to wait for an RMA is too lengthy, not newegg's fault, just wanted to put this out there.

I have at present 3 of these difficult drives on software program RAID 5 with an OpenFiler two.3 64 bit in an AMD based technique. I got these for about โ a piece and currently quite pleased. None had been DOA, all preforming equally. With no airflow and in a closed location, these drives run about 98 to 105 degrees in a room that is maintained at about 85.As for speeds, they produced fairly nice statistics. The following tests were conducted making use of hdparm -t with three runs per test on an AMD SB710 southbridge:In a single difficult drive averaged 134.72 MB/secIn software RAID ࿠ kB chunk) averaged 322.30 MB/secIn software program RAID 鹀 kB chunk) averaged 376.49 MB/secIn software program RAID Ƒ MB chunk) averaged 377.65 MB/secIn software RAID Ɣ MB chunk) averaged 370.20 MB/secIn software RAID 5 ࿠ kB chunk) averaged 258.91 MB/sec, rebuilding in two hours, two minutesWindows to Openfiler statistics in other thoughts. None at the moment, will update if there are any. Windows network transfer over a gigabit connection that is direct connected through crossover cable (CAT 6), jumbo packets enabled, typical transfer for several 7.4 ISO images to a RAID 鹀 kB chunk) had been between 950 to 1005 megabit / second (roughly 118.75 megabytes / second to 125.625 megabytes / second)My southbridge is limited to three Gb/s, so there's a possiblity that I could get quicker transfer rates with a 6 Gb/s. For mass storage on the low-cost, these drives are a good option to contemplate.

significant storage size, huge cashe, 50 cents a gig on sale. OEM (only if you don't know you get no Sata cable), at present is the bottleneck in my client build, loud. Overall this is a good get for the size your finding. Sadly with the existing generation of processors, ram and MB"s this technologies is beginning to show it's age. I personally would have gone SSD at least for the OS but it's not for me. Also, this is the loudest drive I've ever had from Hitachi, quickly overpowering the three case fans and CPU fan. Hopefully by the time I need to have to replace my personal drive's SSD's will be this cheap (good luck!).

Although seeking via the selection of 1TB hard drives, there are several options. I was debating whether or not to getthe Western Digital drive or this one, the WD drive is a few dollars a lot more. I got this 1, I cant imagine the WD becoming any far better. Its rapidly, I was really impressed, I put it by means of some tests and it was truly just as quickly as my other smaller capacity drives. Seek time is noticeably far better in all aspects of use. Also, runs incredibly quiet although I do have 4x 120mm fans drowning all the other noise LOL. Get this drive, its excellent. Im not worried about reliability, Ive utilized, Hatachi drives before and they've lasted! As expected you don't essentially get all 1000 gigabytes, this is technically not even a con due to the fact the very same applies to all drives. The actual size is about 932 GB.... GET IT... Awesome drive

These truly are the greatest drives for the income. I've installed most likely 20 of these in the last couple of years and have however to have a single one fail on me. I've got three in my personal server alone. None to speak of There are 2 other brands that had been constantly the gold regular for years and years. One starts with S and the other with W. You know who I mean. Their drives right now are terrible, I've had so quite a few failed units that I've stopped obtaining them entirely. Hitachi and Samsung are absolutely the way to go

Low-cost. Garbage. Ordered 5 in a combo deal with the Sans Digital Raid tower for work. Two were bad inside a day. RMAed. Now one of the remaining three has 3 bad sectors and fails intermittently. I've wasted way too a lot time with this junk. Three bad drives out of five. These drives came packed pretty nicely by Newegg. They weren't rattling around in a massive box so transport harm isn't an issue. It appears that excellent control just doesn't exist at Hitachi.

My second Deskstar, and I really like it. I've had failures with other brands I've employed S34g4te and w.d., but in no way had an issue with a Hitachi. Soon after my initially develop, two HD's bit the dust. Switched to this, and given that it's been gravy. HEAVY! Wouldn't mount in upper 3.5 slot of my Dragon Slayer, but could be the case.
