Quite slidly built.Superb asthetics and indications.Manual is extremely nicely documented for a item of this sort.Very, incredibly nice that you only want two molex connectors to power 3 drives.Built in fan is quite quiet if noise is a concern.Look to get decent cooling with the two 1.5TB Seagates staying proper around 90FችC. I could see how some men and women would complain about the cooling but HDD's are not like other components in that decrease temps to not equate to longer MTBF instances. Its actually just luck of the draw. Thats why we have parity RAID. I have two of these in my home server/workstation.I have them in an older Antec SOHO tower server case that has 4 consecutive 5.25" They each match but exactly where quite tight for my case. All these folks throwing their crucial information on one particular drive need to be drawn and quartered. Either implemet a backup solution or build a RAID5, RAID6, RAID1, or RAID10 array or each.

The value is attractive, and the corporation gives interchangable trays with its other SATA solutions, including selections for E-SATA enclosures. Correctly cabled it offers feedback as to drive failure and has a constructed-in overheat alarm that can be set at multiple temperatures. This is a massive unit, and is a tight fit into any chassis, almost as though it is a milimeter or so too huge. The massive depth meant that it barely fit into a 4U chassis. The cabling is also challenging to perform with, positioned as it is right subsequent to the rather large (and extremely a lot needed) fan housing.General the downsides are not anything unexpected on this form of solution, and it doesn't loose an egg due to them. SATA backplaines that are not specifically created for the certain server chassis (and even some that are!) are identified for getting concerns with the backplanes causing errors, slow overall performance and dropping drives, and so I was wary and careful, but I experienced no such difficulties on the ones I purchased.

Space savings, hotplug capable. Noisy fan (just take it off/attach silent fan), bad manual/documentation (just plug in a molex/sata power cable and the sata information cables), just about match into leading two slots of my centurion five case (had to operate the case a tiny, screw holes don't line up well). Love the functionality. Can now hotswap HDs with the other laptop that has an MB455 in it.

Great notion and handy. Nice and quiet. Fan isn't noisy and it lines up with the fan on the energy provide just behind it which pulls the air by way of and out the back. This unit is shorter than the two older IDE trays I had installed. Handy access to the drives. Pain to set up. Too tight and had to mod the case slightly. Was concerned of one thing happening to this unit during install to get it in. Be patient and take your time as it does fit. A little disappointed about having to attach trays to the HDDs. Trays could be a tiny sturdier. An additional brand avoided that and you could simply slide the HDD proper into the door. Not a big issue for my use nonetheless and this unit was significantly less costly. Good hunting unit and has some handy functions. Provides me an further slot if I require to operate on a HDD without getting to get rid of the ones I have installed or open the case. I'm curious if the other capabilities like the temp buzzer and HDD fail lights function. Not that I want to see that happen but nice capabilities.

Hot swappable.Multicolored lights to indicate study/write/fail I had an particularly tough time installing two of these in my case. I had to use my Dremel to shave off some metal off my case to match. No lock *** Make sure the case is huge adequate to match both this device and your power provide side-by-side ****** Be prepared to start out cutting if the device is a hint also little ***Employed for a big file server I built that expected redundancy and hot swappable bays.

These tiny units great, I now have three of them, 1 is about 3 years old and under no circumstances a issue.I have 4 WD5000YS drives in two of these in RAID 5 and performs good. They redesigned the back plugins; now there are two molex and 3 SATA, all nice and neat. You can't plug these in wrong. Why they did this I'll never know. Following redesigning the back plugs there is no longer a vent in the circuit board for the bottom drive. The bottom drive runs about 4c - 5c hotter than the leading two. Makes certainly no sense. The lights work wonderful, drive fault and all. Fans are pretty noisy for a silent Computer. And I like how the lights line up whith the corresponding drive. Some backplanes don't.

Like the five in three backplane from Icy Dock, this looks like a good quality design. It has a study appear and feel. Would not fit in two out of two machines because of the groove midway down the side. The grove is to accommodate situations that have a assistance below each and every 5.25 device. If these seems to be your problem as well, bend down the tabs in your case that assistance the five.25 device. you only want to bend the leading edge, and only the tab that hits in the middle of the backplane.

Enables for three drives in two slotsHot swap I had 3 of these and every a single was causing study/write delays and even caused the drives to drop off the array. I was quite disappointed with the performance of these backplanes. I employed 500gig SATA2 drives and these enclosures generated a lot of errors and when I took the drives out of the enclosures my issues went away. I'd say for large builds stay away from these, they just are not as high high quality as I had hoped.

Solid Develop ExcellentQuiet Fan (It's created for SOHO/SMB servers, not desktops.) Would be good if the connectors had been numbered and all one particular form or yet another. The energy adapters important to hook anything up turns a clean set up into a rather messy a single. Purchased two and filled them with 500GB drives. Good for SOHO/SMB!

Nice looking, removable 80mm fan, solid construction, usefull drive LEDs, hot-swap operating. Quiet, effective cooling. No useless drive locks, that tend to break. temperature alarm setting switch. Dremel is required to set up. three different cases - not a single one particular can fit the backplane case proper away. Had to shave 1mm here an there to get it installed. Not my initially backplain. But they all look to have a difficulty with dimentions. At least this a single feel solid, so I coud apply a small force following shaving some metal and plastic off my case to get it in. They haven't forgot about drive support rails in the middle, like other companies often do, but nonetheless I had to bring dremel and reduce 1mm on the top rated of the case to get it in. I will order more of these, but for the other instances, I'll need to have to shave something on the sides as properly. It would be best, if not for the added tool expected to install.

Practical drive access, hotswappable, indicates via LED when each and every drive is powered up or in use (reading/writing), SATAII ƓGB/sec) capable. Cools the drives. It was a bit problematic having the unit into my CM Stacker Case, you just desire to push difficult (but be careful not to break it).Obtaining the HDD's correct there may very well be a bit noisy to some (especially with higher RPM drives durring reading/writing) even though I have no dilemma with it.The drives to not lock into spot so potentially any person could swipe a single or all of them, but once again that's not a concern for myself. This device does it's job and it does it well. The proximity between your self and the drives can cause undesirable noise to some (in my opinion some many people worry about fan or HDD noise too significantly. It's honestly not negative at all and I have a tendency not to notice it at all most of the time), and the lack of lock to protect against the drives from becoming stolen may perhaps be an concern as well.So if "possible" noise, or HDD burglars are not a thing you are concerned about, and want/need very easily accessible SATAII drives, there is no reason not to get this. I'm honestly thinking of having yet another one particular myself, as soon as I can figure how to match it.

Serves its objective, built pretty nicely, looks excellent installed, and is a space saving style for these cases that lack a cage. If you have a Antec P180 situation, particularly the revision, you do not want this cage. The 80mm fan is larger that it looks. It will get in the way of the mobo's 24 power connector. I have flipped it over so the fan is offset on the side, but issues this may well lead to with the HD remains to be observed. Antec P180EVGA 790iEVGA GTX 280

Absolutely None. If I could give it a ZERO, I would. From what I read and saw about the item, I thought it was a excellent deal. ICY-DOCK has a excellent reputation, and we use them at work. Set up into Asus P5Q Pro process. Hooked up energy to both molex connectors, attached the new SATA cables I purchased at the exact same time I ordered ICY-DOCK. Inserted three WD 1GB drives. Turned on energy. Lights up, fans come on, but no POST or beeps. Turn off energy, pull everything out, re-power motherboard. No Post or Beep. Start troubleshooting. Pull off elements down to bare board and video. Nevertheless no post. Examine CPU and video in other laptop, both excellent. Verify new SATA cables working with USB -SATA adapter and verify cables and drives are excellent. Pondering ICY-DOCK fried my motherboard.Try connecting ICY-DOCK no a different personal computer (which was dispensable). Hook up, power on. Same Factor. Not post or beep. A different fried personal computer. Each computers had higher good quality Seasonic energy supplies. A 700 and 500 watt. Both power supplies still measure ი and Ƴ so they are nevertheless excellent. Checked back side of ICY-DOCK and discovered two small SMD transistors Q6 and Q7 FRIED above SATA1 connector. The brand new ICY DOCK just ruined a 贝 motherboard. I contact ICY DOCK. Extremely friendly and valuable guy, but about all they will do is let me RMA it. They will not cover incidental harm induced by a defective product. They supply to send me a replacement. Like I am going to take a probability on sticking Another a single of these in my NEW motherboard that I am now going to have to order to repair my machine. They did want the S/N ) off it so they could examine it out when it gets sent back to them from NewEgg. My 1st and last ICY-DOCK acquire, both personally and at work. NOT Happy AT ALL.

Hot swap rails work pretty well, HD access lights automatically work for all drives I've utilised so far (seagate 7200.9 and 7200.ten 80GBs and seagate 7200.9 250GBs) Fan sticks fairly far out the back. I've employed two 3in2 and one 4in3 of these type cages in 3 different instances. The -only- one that fit nicely was a 3in2 in a Thermaltake Matrix case (and the only reason there is the plastic drive fast-mount strips that the Matrix makes use of maintain it spaced properly). Putting a 3in2 into a Antec 900 case I had to bend two of the optical drive tabs out of the way (the Antec case is steel, so it was a discomfort, but its relatively thin steel so its doable). Ultimately placing a 4in3 into a Thermaltake Armor case was a real pain. The Armor uses thick steel, and again the optical drive tabs get in the way, so I had to bend them some (about 30deg downward on the tabs was enough to get it to slide in). General Icy Dock requires to rework their geometry on these, they are just slightly also massive, so it requires some serious effort to cram it in the case (it IS doable but it takes work). Fan is removable, but if you put in standard height 3.five" drives and you totally load the rack you WILL want to use the fan, otherwise you will cook your drives. There is absolutely no airflow with regular height drives. I did a test, 4in3 cage with 4x 250GB drives ran nearly 60C with no fan! Using the fan the temps dropped to beneath 30C (the fan is seriously required to pull air by these little gaps). On the other hand I put two low profile drives ࿰GB .75" height) in a 3in2 and because its not complete height and not completely loaded I can get by operating devoid of the fan (case fans pull air by it). Fan cage also doesn't lend itself to replacement of the fan. It may possibly be possible to pry out the 80mm in there, but additional probably is to drill out the fan attach points and replace the fan utilizing screw attach.

Incredibly quiet fan, great light aluminum case. The difficult drive locking mechanism works wonderful. Oversized height makes it impossible to install devoid of modifying your case. The fan is continuously failing, causing an overheat as well with only 1 of the 3 tricky drives installed truly being accessed. Extremely low cost challenging drive mounting brackets. As substantially as I want to like this device, do not get it as you WILL have to modify your case or take up 3 difficult drive places if you bend the bottom self brackets off/down so it will fit. This defeats the point of the three for two structure.

Easy to install, Uncomplicated to access drives, Effortless management of cables and power, and Uncomplicated money savings for power cost/operate. Took five minutes to install in a XPS Gen5 situation and worked perfectly. Not hot swappable but I didn't buy this expecting that alternative. It would be great to power down an person bay. Having 3 challenging drives in the space of two bays and front panel access is important. I have worked with other similiar ideas and I have to say I am an ICY fan.

This is a effectively thought via and uncomplicated device to use. The drive trays are effortless to attach to the tricky drive and slide into the situation smoothly. The lever secures the drive nicely and there appears to be no movement after the lever is snapped in place. The fan moves a very good amount of air and appears pretty quiet despite the fact that my drives can drown out some fan noise. I can hold my hand loosely in front of the device and feel the air drawn trough my fingers. Industry typical not the greatest documentation. The device's back panel has been changed with the elimination of the SATA power connector. That leaves two 4-pin molex power connectors. The best one powers the drives and the lower 1 powers the fan, a excellent setup in my estimation. Plan ahead for this device. Devoid of the fan, this device is the same length as any optical drive. With the fan, the device is 40 mm longer and in the circumstance of my case, could only go in the prime two bays. I also had to reengineer my situation, but I was pretty specific this would take place even prior to I placed the order. This unit will fit in a major fat complete-tower case without having difficulty. With a compact mid-tower like mine ྲ.5 in. deep), be certain of the clearances. I regret I didn't acquire a couple of added trays. 1 last note: be positive to tighten the back screws on the drive trays initial just before the screws in the slotted holes and use all six screws. This will retain issues nicely aligned.

Hot swap. Incredibly helpful and functional indicator lights. Solid cooling fan (and quickly replaceable in the event of failure). Trays are simple to function with. I'd like the trays to be made of a tiny a lot more solid construction. Utilised in a "mission vital" household server with 3 disks on RAID 5. Now I don't chew my fingernails in worry of a disk failing and having to shut down the box to replace it. I can just hot swap it!

Fantastic fit and finish, no issues with loose wiring inside, HDD access lights demand SATA-2 disks, but not an SATA-2 controller. Screw holes on outside case aren't perfectly-aligned, requiring some manhandling to get the screws tight. My father has a personal computer he utilizes to record music, and I was starting to get antsy about his several-year-old C-gate tricky drive -- 1 great pop and his life's perform would basically be gone for fantastic. So I shopped about and picked this baby up, loaded it up with 3 new C-gate drives, and plugged it in. Worked like a charm the initially time and just about every time considering that. I was worried that the low price tag (the seriously excellent hot-swap cages can from time to time expense 񘈨 or much more) would imply poor top quality, but none of the latches have popped loose by themselves and the internal wiring hasn't shown any signs of weakness -- each of which would outcome in possessing to rebuild the contents of the array. It's taken a load off my thoughts and produced it simpler for him to replace a drive if (when) one particular dies ultimately.

Reasonable expense for three drive hot-swap capability. Noise from unit is restricted to fan moving air and drive spin-up. Switch on back enables selection of temp warning chime with any of 45ናኝ C. Fan module is removable. Drive action is very smooth. Panel on unit offers all details so no need to maintain manual. Three power connections - 1 SATA and 2 legacy. Absolutely nothing to indicate if they are all needed and I discover myself unwilling to experiment. No way to secure against accidental release - for example through driver read. Would prefer a design about 1ǘ an inch shorter length - the fan module seems a tiny chunky. If it had been 2mm longer I would have had to look for a different case. This sucker is major and if you have a tooless chasis be prepared to possibly do some slight bay modifications to get it in and anticipate at least some wrangling to get in place... almost had to get some butter - when in although it is Quite secure. Aluminum chasis is very aesthetic, nearly a shame to hide it away - this could be cool in an acrylic case. I would (and in all probability will) buy far more as required.

The unit is extremely well developed. It permits you to get rid of a challenging without having substantially hassle. The mechanism to release the drive is uncomplicated enough to use, but cannot be tripped accidentally. It would be nice if difficult drive replacement in the bracket could be made quicker. You have to screw the drive into the bracket. It would be good if they came up with a way so you didn't have to use screws; just snap out the old drive, snap in the new and just push it back into the module. This isn't actually a large con, certainly not worth deducting any eggs. But if anyone at Icy Dock reads these things, this would be a really nice function.

Compact style, Ɠ drive in two bays), quite great cooling, uncomplicated to swap drives. The manual is slightly lacking but if you've spent more than a couple of days about computers its effortless enough to configure. I would have liked to have observed the individual trays contain a bottom so when removed you could retailer them safely without risking the tough drive board. The fan is a little noisey but I think this could be replaced,(modded) with a quieter after-market 1. Fan noise aside, it cools very nicely. Location your hand in front of the drive trays and you can really feel the cold air being drawn into the unit.
