Works good
Cons: that software that comes with it didn't work well, always droping connection for no reason. Finally I setup zero wireless with my Windows XP and it stays one all the time

Pros: Works very well, got bended a few times and it still works.

A little more info would help
Cons: Netgear really messes with their lines! The 511 series used up to 5 different chipsets! The v2 from China uses a Marvell chipset, totally incompatible with Linux. Guess which one this is! I was very disappointed that it did not state it was the v2 of this model. Also there is a Tiawan version of the v2 which *IS* linux compatible. For at least this vendor the description needs to be much more specific. BUYER BEWARE!!

Pros: Innovative design, intended for a low availability mesh structure. Yes, it does work as a simple 802.11g wireless nic!
Comment:
I was fortunate in that I have another system needing a Windows only solution. after all the effort to get the recommended linux card to have it show up with this situation has me very set against NetGear products again.

good card paired with zyxel.
Cons: None yet.

Pros: Good interface - easy install - feature rich. Picks up and selects APs reliably and quickly. Atheros chipset. Good price. I am using the WG511U version of this product.
Comment:
Read review off WiFi Planet that paired this with a Zyxel router and the results were excellent. Router and card can be had for little $$$. Combination is the best router/ ap combo I've used yet.Atheros chipset should let me do some neat wireless tricks with this, too. Take it from someone who does his homework.

Cons: Made a few cracks in the plastic, not a big deal.

Pros: Great product. This is the only PC card I have ever owned so I don't have anything to compare it to. I have oned it more than 1 yr. and still owned it and serve me well. Great price, I recommend it. Install was easy.
Comment:
Make it heavier duty.

Has some good characteristics, but pulled down by unrealiability.
Cons: Flimsy, and unrealiable signal. The casing in which the product is enclosed is made of rather cheap plastic, and since the antenna part of the device sticks out a good bit (about 1.5 inches), it can easily be cracked or broken off. So, if you're planning on using this is a laptop that's constantly being shoved in and out of a case or bag, you'll need to take this card out and put it back in all the time in order to keep from breaking it. Also, signal range and strength tends to randomly spike or go down to near nothing at times, even in the same area with no signal interferance in the immediate area - it happens often enough to be exceedingly annoying, especially when Windows or the client drops your connection, while the person next to you with their shiny built-in wireless continues to surf fine.

Pros: Excellent Windows client included to detect wireless networks, lots of tweaks and a clean interface. Picks up all kinds of networks, even some my other adaptors don't at the same range.
Comment:
If you're purchasing this product for an older laptop without built-in wireless, I'd strongly reconsider to find another adaptor that doesn't have the problems I have experienced with this one, and possibly one without the extremely long antenna portion of the card poking out as much as it does on this product.

Netgear WG511 DONT BUY IT
Cons: Badly engineered and cheaply made. You can't do much better than that.Based on a crummy chip that Netgear doesn't support well.Netgear "packages" all of the support products for this card in windows wrappers so if you want to extract a file - say you want to get the prism firmware - don' t have windows (and why would you have windows?), you're screwed. THEY COULD DO THIS MORE EASILY but don.t.

Pros: This product has no pros.
Comment:
When netgear started, it was a great idea and a great company. Then a few years ago, they raided the loony bin and found a new management team and a new strategy. If you closed your eyes and threw a stick into the monkey cage at the zoo, whatever monkey you hit would add technical and strategic expertise.

Good Value
Cons: I went to the Netgear site and down loaded the drivers for a fresh install before I even put the card in. Afterward I got on the net and everything seemed normal. I tried to connect to the my laptop using remote desktop and it told me the the software I installed had changed some files and I was not able to connect.Unistalled the netgear software and just let XP install it and everything works well. Even remote desktop.

Pros: Connection speed is what I expected. For the money it works well if your just looking to surf the net and listen to music.

Slightly Dececptive
Cons: I ordered the WG511, and recieved the WG511v2 - which means getting it going on my Suse 10 laptop is a pain - it still doesn't work yet.

Pros: Well, apparently this is a great Card under Windows.
Comment:
It would be very nice if they would list the chipsets on these cards in the description - that would have eliminated the headache completely, or at least nearly so.

Works Great for WinXP
Cons: WinXP drivers haven't passed MS WHQL - not a big issue but a minor annoyance considering how old the drivers are (Aug 04).

Pros: Nice, clean, simple install for WinXP Home SP2. Rock solid with most security features enabled including 128-bit WEP. Found all my neighbor's APs, including several at extreme range.
Comment:
This is version 2 of the NIC (WG511v2). Oh and Newegg continues to set the gold standard for online shopping experiences - well done!
