I picked this up to give it a try as i had read that Intel NIC's were supposed to be far superior to the Realtek that came built-in to my motherboard. Honestly, I can't tell the difference. Maybe if I run some more tests but it's not like my internet experience is faster or my downloads are constantly maxed out. I don't have this in a network so maybe the gains are noticed there?I don't play a lot of online games where the slightest lag can make a twitchy, energy-drink riddled teenager miss-fire their gun in some console ported FPS game, so maybe that's where the real gains are?Oh well. I have a second NIC in my computer. wheeeeee.... |

I bought this card a few years ago for my brother and later bought one for myself after getting his feedback from it. My brother who plays WoW arenas competitively found his response times and load time felt a lot ore snappier as opposed to using his onboard NIC. |

I've had this for a little over a week now and so far it has performed as expected. No surprise; Intel is an industry leader and manufactures the best NICs in the business.I bought this on a referral from an Intel sales rep, after a very engaging presentation he gave through which he enumerated the merits of having a good quality NIC. This one uses copper and can accommodate Cat5 cables up to 100 meters in length. It installs into a PCI Express 1.1 lane, for 2.5GT/s.Ships (OEM) with both low profile and full height slots/brackets. |

Picked this up for my home server as it's onboard LAN was only 10/100.This card was used with a fresh install, it needed no drivers or anything, it just worked as it should right out of the packaging.The card has run stable with no issues after a rigorous first few days of use. I'm contemplating upgrading the adapter in my desktop with one of these as the built in LAN there has given me some issues.Great little NIC, works as it should, stable and fast, would buy again. |

I got this to replace my onboard intel nic, which for some reason DID NOT support Jumbo Frames. I wanted one that did, and this fit the bill perfectly. As others have mentioned you can't beat intel quality and support. I don't think there's a better choice for standard standalone NIC out there. |

As most reviews have pointed out , this NIC is fast, faster than most on board or even other vendor card NICs for only a bit more money.This replaced a D-Link DGE-530T PCI card which died and easily gets another 10-15 MB/s on a gigabit network using a HP Procurve managed 8 port switch and cat 6 cabling. |

I may be old school, but I still like to use a proper NIC. Since I had the PCI version of this in my old system, I decided to go with the PCI-e version in my new system. The small form factor is nice, it doesn't stick out like some cards do.Transfer speeds between this and it's PCI brother were amazing (though I haven't done actual measurements yet).Intel continues to make amazing networking products, and I for one will continue to shun on-board NIC's. |

Bought two of these ,one for main computer and one for FreeNAS. Both devices were previously running on the mobo NICs. My share speed between Windows 7 and FreeNAS went from an average of 45 MB/s to 75 MB/s. No more crashes either.Awesome! Also, no issues installing drivers on Windows 7, and it runs natively in FreeBSD 7.x! |

As far as I'm concerned nobody does NICs like Intel. I was using my half-baked Realtek Mobo Gb NIC to transfer data to a NAS I built for backup and media. I was getting 30-50 MB/s depending on the file size. I was also having trouble with transfers with Jumbo Frames enabled, like stalling, OS locking, etc. (Linux using NFS)I installed this after receiving it and WOW! Huge difference! Now I'm getting close to the theoretical limit for a Gigabit network, 110-120 MB/s, again, depending on file size. Also after setting up for Jumbo Frames and rebooting I have no issues using this feature.You get a BIOS with the card that you can enter to activate various features...I really didn't pay attention but some of the other reviewers have elaborated. Of course, this adds a tiny bit to the boot time. I believe that it can be disabled in the BIOS of the card. Intel thinks of everything.This is a PCIe x1 card. If you don't have a x1 slot don't worry because it should work in a x16, x8 and x4 slots on most mobos. I have an EVGA and a quick check of their Web site and I verified that the x16 slots can be used for x1 cards. Be sure to check your's before buying this if you only have x16, x8 or x4 slots available. When you think of the improvements this brings to your box it's an absolute bargain. Of course, a wise shopper might want to take advantage of NCIX's price matching policy. ;) |
Upgraded from the PCI version of this card (the GT) to this.Tested speeds with iperf (simultaneous bidirectional test). Speeds went from 309 - 352 Mb/s on the GT to 903 - 934 Mb/s on this. Speed test is extremely stable over 3 tests, looks like a hard limit somewhere.Though even most enthusiasts will never use them, this card comes with many enterprise-class features - some of which are accessible through its own boot ROM which will come up on boot.Some manufacturers have started eliminating the LEDs to save cost, but this still uses the familiar activity/link LED (on if linked, blinking during activity) and the 10/100/1000 LED (off on 10 Mbit, green on 100 Mbit and yellow on 1000 Mbit). It's easy to take these for granted.It's amazing this is as cheap as it is, actually. You can't really do any better until you get into server NICs...and of course the best of those are also made by Intel!Don't consider anything else.
