Low cost, low energy, quiet, mainly all just works "Gigabit"Ethernet LAN (RTL-8111DL) only connects to my netgear one hundred񲿘 switch at 100MHz. Updated BIOS to Intel's most up-to-date (Aug. 2010), downloaded, constructed and installed latest Linux driver from Realtek web site, did "sudo ethtool -s eth0 speed 1000", but no joy. Hence dinged an egg. Runs Ubuntu actual snappy. With Chrome and Open Office it's just like a affordable quiet Mac.

Has every thing a technique desires except the RAM and Difficult Drive. I plugged in an older ATX (v2.03) power supply and it's operating excellent so far. I was installing Ubuntu from a USB cd drive and USB stick but the set up would comprehensive only for the program to not find the boot info on the tough drive. I went via this a handful of times prior to checking the BIOS version. Also you can't update to the most current BIOS version without having set up the prior 1 that came before it. Sort of dumb that way. Lost about 2 evenings getting this resolved. Great board for a network file server because you can plug in an old PCI card RAID card and hook up some old IDE hard drives. Gigabit NIC is good as properly.

Office 2007 starts up almost immediately - just plain fast. The make came in at around 跠 without having shipping, an perfect answer for these who do largely just internet browsing and e-mail. Would have like a PCIxpress 2.x slot as an alternative of PCS but I knew that going in. I am genuinely satisfied with this board. I chose this board since of the passive cooling, and the price tag was just correct for what it supplied/what I necessary.I have the board in an IN WIN BP655.200BL Mini-ITX case along with a 200 watt PSU. This case only has 1 80mm fan cooling it, and the CPU and overall situation temp nonetheless manages to stay below 36C in a room that is not air conditioned (under standard use, no stress tests).I am currently operating XP x64 along with 2GB RAM and it is really responsive and quick. I don't consider the CD has XP x64 drivers on it, but I go to the manufacturer web site anyway due to the fact CD drivers are commonly outdated by the time they reach the customer anyway (the website does have XP x64 drivers...didn't verify for Vista or 7 x64).Not a gaming machine of course, but I will add that the D510 along with the GMA 3150 plays World of Warcraft just about flawlessly. The only issues with this board are the lack of SATA connectors (not an problem for me), and no RAID...both of which can be solved by an add-on card (but that equals much more pwr consumption, much less situation area, and added $$, but as for RAID, and depending on your RAID configuration, an add-on card might be the far better decision anyway) I see that some people are complaining about no DVI, no PCI Express, no IDE. What do you anticipate? These machines are built out of the interest of power savings, low heat, quietness, and size. I am running this board off a 200watt PSU, which is high compared to some ppl running external 80watt PSUs. Are you expecting to run a PCI-E video card (maybe an HD4850) w/ an atom processor and a 150watt PSU, assuming that the card will even match? Why? At that point, you could as nicely just create an i-three or i-five machine since your fully defeating the objective of Nettops. As for no IDE support, and assuming you can fit a controller on this board without generating it physically greater in size, attempt operating ribbon cables in a mini or pico itx case. There's quite small area and you'd be killing airflow.Develop:-Intel BOXD510MO Intel Atom D510 NM10 Mini ITX-2GB A-Information 2GB ƒ x 1GB) DDR2 800 Dual Channel-Western Digital Caviar Green WD5000AADS 500GB three.five"-IN WIN BP655.200BL Mini-ITX case-XP

Dual Core Hyperthreading Intel CPUCost: Dirt Low-cost for an ITX motherboard and CPUPCLinuxOS recognized all the hardwareMini Socket for onboard wireless card Doesn't have DVI videoOnly two SATA sockets onboard I wanted a tiny pc to study Linux on. I had rather a handful of components and only had to obtain this motherboard/CPU, a mini-ITX case, and a TP-Link USB Wireless B/G adapter. The most recent PCLinuxOS recognized all the hardware immediately (including the wireless card) - did not have to look for any drivers to get this program up and running! I applied the lightweight LXDE desktop and this little system is quite peppy. I could also see this one particular utilised for an inexpensive property server or NAS (FreeNAS any individual?!). I nonetheless have my Intel Core2 Duo for my principal computing requirements but for studying Linux, this small process is just what I was looking for!

It has pros, but that doesn't matter if the board dies. It's died immediately after 4 months. No video, putting in a separate video card doesn't function either. I'll have to see if I can get Intel to replace it. I chose this originally because for it's prospective reliability (no cpu or video fan).

Brilliant small mother board/cpu combo. No difficulties whatsoever. Easy install, operates great. dead quiet except for energy supply fan (which has absolutely nothing to do with the MB). Dual boot win7/PClinuxOS. Great cheap replacement for an older motherboard. Only has a VGA port. I required a low-cost replacement for a dead Asus MB and this is it. So far am actual joyful about my alternative.

First off, I can not stress this adequate, update the bios immediately using the recovery procedure (copy the bios image onto usb flash, take the bios clear jumper off the m/b and boot it up, adhere to prompts).I flashed from WinXP and the following issues nonetheless existed till I did the recovery procedure. Here are the troubles I was getting... Erroneous temp readings right after a few hours ࿦C but the heat-sink was cold) Technique fan RPM dropped to zero randomly causing program fan to go at 100% RAM instances did not match RAM inserted.Only two SATA ports. 4 would have been great. As usual, Intel motherboards are not recognized for becoming full of functions, but they are rock solid (I have four for i5's).Constantly get very good ram. (I did NOT notices any speed improvement with 800 over 667 ram)I applied the Antec ISK 310-150watt but the ISK 300-65watt case will lively be just as excellent. Really very pleased. Win7 rating of three.four for the proc and 3. for graphics.

Little, low power (ㅒ watts idle w/ 1 laptop HDD), and no moving parts so it's incredibly quiet. Lots of bang for your buck. 1) realtek ethernet interfacetwo) Stock BIOS does not get RAM timings right, or report the method temperatures in the appropriate units, and fails to report the program fan speed. Upgrading the BIOS fixed all 3. Press F7 throughout boot to do so if you're not operating window and don't have a DOS booting USB stick handy. Sad to say, the boot screen that tells you to press F7 for BIOS updates flashes by so quickly (and sometimes not at all if your monitor is slow when initializing) you'll generally miss it. I did, and ended up updating it via DOS the very first time around, and only immediately after reading additional in the manual did I learn of the F7 trick, which I've utilized for later BIOS updates. Runs FreeBSD AMD64 devoid of any troubles. Also, the cons are reasonably minor, creating this a good deal.

great board. dual core with hyperthreading genuinely improves the efficiency as compared to previous atom merchandise. Excellent board map helps to do the develop right. I made a few blunders -- I put the HD activity connection on backwards at very first and had to download a driver for the on board network connection, since the cd version didn't work. I purchased and installed a fan, which the board supports, but the board doesn't will need it. It burns up four SETI@home packages in 12 hours with 50% cpu. So it isn't super quick on any one thing, but all these threads can handle lots of crazy simultaneously.

What a cute small pc operating on Puppy Linux! Actually, I was just tracking down a memory challenge (see beneath). I'm going to run Linux server on it and it will be excellent. Quiet, smaller, effective and rapidly adequate. I utilized the Kingston Hyper-X memory due to the fact it was SPD aware which seemed important to Intel and operates fantastic with Puppy Linux. (lol) Install the memory with the Mobo on a flat surface ahead of you mount it in the case. The board is thin and supported only on the corners and the memory seats poorly in the middle if you don't. I feel that might be why I had so substantially difficulty receiving it to boot off the portable Puppy drive. Wish I had purchased a litter of them although they had been on sale!

tiny, silent (no fan) laptop or computer that has so far made an excellent webserver, and is a more then capable replacement to the aging P4 I used to have in every single regard. no IDE, so I had to play around with USB sticks to install debian with.only 2 sata ports, which I guess is alright. the monitor it's connected to won't turn off, it will just go blank, but the light will still be on. Not confident if this is a board concern, or a driver issue, nonetheless searching into it.it comes with normal length SATA cables, but they take up so considerably space in the cramped situation, why not have one lengthy 1, and one particular short ɛin one, mainly because I had a single laying about, and it was the excellent size for my case, and removed alot of clutter.

Good little board. Using it for a media/file server with a 1 TB drive. Would not install CentOS five.five, but putting in Fedora 13 without having an issue. Could not get any keyboard or video output, and no beep/error codes. Almost RMA'd the board (got the RMA quantity and all) until I decided to give it one additional shot with memory from my desktop. Turns out that when it says DDR2-667 or 800, they imply it. I was beneath the impression DDR2-533 was backwards compatible, but that's not the case with this board. Be positive you only use 667 or 800. None

Passive cooling: 52. C in a closed case devoid of any fans. Particularly efficient design. Performs wonderful with Ubuntu (Server) out of the box. Tends to make an superb small server. Doesn't need to have to 4-pin power connector like most other Mini ITX's. Video output selections are restricted (VGA only), but that's no secret. Purchased this to replace the mobo in a Shuttle X27D. Superb fit with two exceptions: the power cable is as well short (buy an extension) and the front panel cable is also brief (splice in some extra wire).

- Incredibly tiny heat, low power- dual core D510 @ 1.6ghz w/ hyperthread for 4 "cores" rocks!- serial ports! - i'm a BSEE so these are still handy to me :) - no DVI/HDMI, though this board isn't truly built for HTPC'ing so i'm not certain i can fault it for that- if i had to actually nitpick, a lot more than two sata's would be good I was in the industry for a low energy nettop for my wife to replace her old athlon XP machine. I combined this with an APEX MI-008 situation, 2 gigs of PQi ram, a WD Caviar Blue HDD and a 120cm rosewill fan and had a sweet setup for Much less THAN 赨!! I was a bit weary of intel boards due to the fact i had always been underwhelmed by their total size offerings, but i couldn't assist myself when i saw the reviews for this 1. I would say this board is fantastic for your common e mail/web surf/msoffice client. Although the gfx chipset is fairly weak, this thing did fine w/ Aero (win7) and a handful of youtube streams playing at when. The MB is layed out pretty effectively and was incredibly easy to use in my case.

Makes an outstanding router with pfsense loaded onto it. The processor was honestly a bit quicker then I was expecting for it becoming an intel atom.It also makes a fantastic, cost-effective laptop or computer for relatives or buddies who do don't do anything processor heavy (surf the net, general office perform, and so on) Would have been great to have a serial port on the back io panel. Though it still has headers for a single if its certainly necessary. When updating the bios, you have to update it to v400 just before you can update it to the newest version (which is v506 at the time of writing)I read the other critiques stating that this board is picky about memory. So I basically located a critique stating what memory they utilised in a working setup and purchased that. I've not had any troubles with the memory personally.
