Comment:
worked great for about 7 months, higher speed transfers immediately after about 7 months it started to turn off randomly. I'd have to unplug the power for about 10 seconds, and plug it back in. now after obtaining it for 14 months, it does it fairly regularly. I switch back to my linksys 10럼. would be good product if it didn't have apparent overheating issues

It's "pretty."It seems to be nicely constructed. Extremely finicky about gigabit speedsRebate process is impossible It is incredibly tough to get any device to negotiate a gigabit connection to this switch. I've plugged three various computers in to it with 4 different pieces of Cat 5E and none of them perform. The only way I've been able to get it to connect at gigabit speeds is by connecting it directly to another switch (a Netgear GS116.) By swapping it out for a GS108, all the systems and cables that don't perform with this switch work fine at gigabit speeds. So basically: it doesn't work.In addition, the rebate approach is impossible. You have to go via their "pre-authorization" process to get an address to send the rebate information to, and if you, like me, lose this address you can't get it replaced. I've been emailing their rebate service division for a week and so far, they have refused to give me the address to send it. (Don't bother calling them, because you just get an IVR- you can't ever talk to a actual individual.)This is the final Netgear product I will ever buy.

Comment:
Good switch, jumbo frames, 802.1p assistance, nevertheless ticking soon after 4 or 5 years. tends to be picky about gigabit link negotiations. I don't know if the cables, NICs, or switch are at fault, but often I'll plug in gigabit equipment and the switch will configure it to run at 100mbit. I normallyjust try different ports till the switch figures it out, but I've in no way had to do that on my Netgear GS108T. At one point I tried setting my link speed to gigabit on the NIC, then the switch totally froze when I plugged it into a port that didn't want to do gigabit. As a secondary switch to get myself some far more gigabit ports, this isn't bad, but if I required all the ports to perform at gigabit speeds all the time, I'd possibly be rather dissapointed with it.

Switch has served me well for more than 2 years. At the time it was an extraordinary deal on a gigabit switch after rebate. Sometimes one particular or two of the ports gets stuck at 100Mbps. Forcing it to gigabit in SW, using a different port, and/or energy cycling the switch usually fixed this.

worked out of the box Netgear telephone help insists the warranty is only 1 year even although the box and warranty paper obviously state two years. I purchased two of these. In the period of 18 months, each of these units developed terrible ports that did not function at all and 1 had an further port that only works at 100M rather of 1000M. The GS6* series of switches from Netgear are junk. I have had GS1* series switches in the previous that never failed.

Worked wonderful the first handful of days. Soon after being on continuously below pretty significant load (copying a lot of files to a NAS, torrents) for about a week the device froze. I had to power cycle it to get it working again but right after that it freezes each and every 15 to 30 minutes even below light load. It can get actually hot as well even even though I have it sitting beneath an air conditioning vent. two computer systems and a NAS with gigabit connections connected. Cable router/modem connected. I switched back to the cable modem till I get a different switch. It does still function among power cycles but I can't leave it alone extended.

What ever, it's a switch. There are no mounting holes to mount it to a wall. I just wanted to create this to let folks know this switch performs with PlayStation 3 media streaming exactly where a PS3 can stream from a DLNA-compliant UPnP device like a Pc or NAS. Other switches, for some cause I don't know (something about the chipset not supporting multicast), do not support this (I had a single). All I did was swap the switch out and it worked promptly.

Sleek, low profile, low heat, all 8 ports Gigabit Doesn't have adequate weight to even hold itself flat against a desk if the cables are pulling down more than the edge. You can't go wrong with these desktop switches, I bought two for household and I have a *very* information intensive home network. They have held up flawlessly and I continually monitor my network overall performance, for which these have never ever been a bottleneck.

Worked good out of the box. Does what it says. Good quality is not great. Worked nicely for two 1ǘ years ahead of capacitor difficulty showed up (kept resetting). Purchased a single of each and every GS608 and GS108 to take benefit of rebates Ƒ per model at that time). GS108 nonetheless operating well and has a lifetime warranty. Saved a few bucks initially but now I have to spend for a replacement.

Sleek design, reasonable price Light weight permits the cabling to control it's orientation. Ports initially connected at 1Gbps auto downgraded to 100Mbps. Power cycling brings back some of the ports but not all. These are for 1Gbps clients that previously connected reliably at 1Gbps with my old Netgear Gigabit switch (FS108). There is certainly a marketplace for trusted, properly created SOHO networking gear. Netgear makes a great stab at it but misses on some essential points: physical stability, port reliability. Drop the chrome as well please. Also significantly bling for me.

Netgear name, sleek searching. I've gone by means of 3, once would power cycle, the other just died. Now the RMA'ed one died. Skip Netgear for everything. Netgear use to have a excellent name. Now they just ride on their has been name and sell junk products and give even worse support. I also personal numerous of their newer merchandise and have come to the similar conclusion that I will not purchase a single Netgear item once more.

I've had the switch for a couple of years and the very first two years every little thing function excellent. Then issues began to go downhill. Appropriate about the time the switch was receiving out of warranty it began to drop connections down to 100mbps which commonly have been operating at gig-speeds. Switching ports solved this issue but as time goes on it gets worse and worse. I'm not positive if they've fixed the issue or not but there are two separate problems, initial the LED for port six only the green works (amber for 10럼 doesn't) and if any device is connected at gigabit speeds for much more than a couple of minutes it will reboot. About a month following the non-gig situation it no longer offers usage on any except the 1st three ports. Given that it is out of warranty per Netgear I did some diagnostics and noticed the 10v capacitors were bulging which was the source of the dilemma. The switch in it's lifetime was hold in space temp in between 64F and 75F with plenty of ventilation. Please retain this in thoughts and try to location the switch in a cold (between 33F and 65F) spot if employing at gigabit speeds to prolong the life of the unit.

Looks good with my Xbox 360, shows orange for slow speed connection, green for gigabit. None Came with a Netgear rebate card... I hate rebate cards, most likely simply because they sell my facts on purchases. Oh effectively, all they're gonna get is a couple of trips to Stabucks :) Come to think of it, I hate rebates... vendors really should bear the burden of rebates, imho.

I have three of these all bought from NewEgg about two years ago. They have worked good. I'm preparing to get a fourth and was surprised to see so a lot of unfavorable evaluations. My setup consists of a D-Link DSL modem with four ten럼 ports two are in use. 1 goes to my 1st GS608. All 8 ports are in use on this GS608. One particular of them runs about 60 feet to a utility area to a second GS608. All eight ports are total on that switch as effectively. One particular of these runs one more 60 feet or so to a third GS608 which has 5 ports complete. Two other ones go to two diverse ten럼 switches that are each and every connected connected to a HD-satellite receiver and a HD-DVD player. I hope to add two Blu-Ray players soon as effectively. The third GS608 has five ports in use. One particular of these ports runs to an a/b/g wireless router. All runs are carried out with CAT5e. My initial GS608 gets hit the heaviest and sits in a cabinet, with several other elements such as a laser printer and an ink jet printer. I've had no situations of more than heating or locking u None. I will absolutely take a chance on another. As I said above, mine are about two years old. Perhaps they aren't getting created as well now. I'll write another assessment, if my fourth GS608 doesn't perform as properly as the first 3.

Netgear GS608 v2 is sleek and rapid. Not ugly like other manufactures switches. Cost with rebate is fantastic. Started to resetting itself for no reason, now practically daily.I unplug power supply for a bit and from time to time would fix it. It doesn't seam like it is more than heating. I also keep it on the stand for improved airflow. The energy supplied diedƒnd netgear product with dead power provide) Their help is horrible!RMA'ing the complete factor. I am finally no longer a netgear fan. Also use a Cisco 2900XL Think Netgear is riding 1 their 1990's name. Maybe the metal case one would have been much better, but I hated their assistance so considerably I wont get netgear again. (own three wireless routers, two switches, 1 bridge)of Netgear brand)

Good switch when it's operating. Situation isn't as good as the old blue metal netgear switches I've utilized the previous. It's created of plastic now. It's dead currently. All ports just go dead right after about 10-15 minutes of use under incredibly light load.
