Netgear WNDR3700 4 Port Gigabit Wireless N Dual Band Router
Comment:
Simple to set up. Internet configuration interface tends to make sense and the assist screens are fantastic. Dual band is excellent, and the capacity to make guest networks is excellent too. WPS works properly and I had my network set up rapidly. With the addition of the DLink DAP-1522 bridge, it's a excellent option. Netgear's latest firmware update for this unit has some key flaws and really should be taken off their web-site till they have a superior replacement, which according to the forums won't be for much more than 6 months right after they initial discovered about this challenge. With the most current version, online games, IM, and a lot of https internet sites have connectivity troubles. AIM was disconnecting and reconnecting each ten-15 minutes. Took some hunting in the forums to come across that other persons were obtaining the challenge. The resolution was to downgrade the firmware, which apparently has some other bugs, but at least tends to make the router usable. I also have a home server to access files remotely by way of http that can configure a router by way of UPnP. This worked good with my preceding router, but the Netgear doesn't appear to hold the settings and my server complains. I was capable to function about it by setting up port forwarding. Considering that downgrading the firmware, I've been incredibly satisfied with the router. Devoid of this dilemma, I would have offered 5 stars. I'm tech-savvy, although significantly less so with network stuff. Given that this is Netgear's flagship solution, it's astonishing that they don't release some fixed firmware sooner. Overall, nevertheless, I would advise this router.

Dual band functions slightly superior than my earlier single band wireless N router. This was the most challenging router to set up, setup cd couldn't find connection even though my computer had web access? Tech help from Netgear was worthless, she spoke broken english and knew much less about Computer's and routers than I did. Lastly got it to perform and not seriously confident how? just played with alot of settings and reset router. Router would not connect to DVD player till firmwear update.I would not recomend this router !!!

Good Evaluations. Decent tech help. I set this unit up Ɨ wired computers & 3 wireless devices). The unit worked for about an hour and then the wired connections went out. Tech help ran me via some tests and came to the conclusion that the firmware was corrupt and couldn't be fixed. I bought a second one that day and this one wouldn't even respond to a ping of 192.168.1.1. It was DOA. Went with a linksys e3000, set it up and got anything functioning in no time flat. The e3000 firmware has one essential feature I didn't see with the Netgear, the ability to release/renew an IP from the service provider. With Verizon Fios this is helpful, due to the fact then I don't have to contact them when I want to switch out routers.

I bought this router as a replacement to my 贶 Trend-net router simply because it just didn't have the range. Everywhere I read that it is impossible to stream true 1080P videos wirelessly to your Tv due to the fact of the bandwidth it needs. Nicely ladies and gentlemen; I am able to accomplish this with this router. The Television sits 1 floor up on the other side of my residence Ƒ,669 sq. ft. property). I am also capable to be in any of my neighbors yards and still pick it up with a excellent signal. In contrast to a lot of routers you can have a number of devices connected to it on the similar channel at unique speeds. I have a server connected to the 2.4 (non guest) network at 270MBs that is sitting in my crawlspace below the house and the laptop I was operating on is connected at 54 MBs on the exact same two.four (non guest) network. As a laptop or computer repair and networking options enterprise owner, this is the finest router I have owned. It isn't totally free. :) I believe all routers over ๠ is too considerably, but this 1 is worth the value. The signal strength is so high that I just spent an hour thinking the wireless adapter was broken in my laptop. Turns out the situation was you have to retain your wireless devices at least three ft from the router for them to have a stable connection. I moved it to the other side of the desk and it hasn't lost connectivity once.

This router solved a enormous issue I was getting on my residence network with VOIP. I've utilised VOIP household phones exclusively for the previous 4 years and with my last alter my prior Linksys router wasn't handling it effectively. Of program, I modified anything else out and worked with settings ENDLESSLY ahead of replacing my router but in the finish the new router solved all my problems. They touted it's QOS capabilities and the specific consideration given to VOIP inside the software package - near as I can tell, it's all correct. My calls cleared up quickly and the much more I understand about configuring this unit the much better it gets. I'm confused about how to take total advantage of the dual band PLUS guest networks but that's my personal limitation not the routers. I started seeking at this unit due to a critique in Greatest Computer magazine (I'm a lifetime reader - never missed) but I have to say that with my personal hands on practical experience I can't recommend it highly sufficient! It's worth the cost tag!

Most almost everything The Guest Network function could be a lot better. You can limit guests from interacting with your private network, but that is the only guest-specific setting. You can't set alternate QoS settings for guests, nor can you block certain ports. You can't even give guests IP addresses from a different pool (otherwise you could set QoS & access restrictions for that pool). I'd surely advise this router, all round

- Extremely uncomplicated setup- Dual band- Visitor mode- Good UI- It functions, I mean all of the characteristics worked for me devoid of any work as other individuals have had. We have two 64-Bit Windows 7 computers, a 32-bit Windows XP laptop or computer, a 32 bit Windows Vista computer, a slim PS3, a Canon MX860, and an iPod Touch; all are wireless except for a single desktop. Two of the computers are operating N WiFi, the rest are G. A little pricey but maybe good worth anyway offered all the capabilities. I had an N router but it wasn't dual band. It's auto switch from G to N upset the devices in our home. So dual band was really appealing. I also wanted QoS so I could dedicate some bandwidth to our VOIP telephone technique. This did the trick. It was so effortless to set up I felt something was missing from the procedure but it wasn't.I haven't tried the USB external drive. Several have stated it is slow but that won't bother me. All I want is to do backups from a number of computer systems and I don't care if it requires all night. Having a 1TB drive central to all computers will be excellent for backup.

(Based on version 1, which has 8 MB of Flash RAM compared to version two's 16 MB)Simultaneous dual-band assistance. I can isolate my video to a DD-WRT client bridge connecting at 5GHZ to this router.Blazing rapidly two.4GHz performance. Good throughput and range via multiple walls.Great 5GHz performance. 5GHz is much more about utilizing a less busy frequency than it is throughput and range. 5GHz throughput is exceptional but the range doesn't match the two.4GHz band on this router. This is typical of dual-band routers and I assume this 1 is much better than most at 5GHz. I am in a position to get 1080ኘp video playing back smoothly from my server to this router to a client bridge with a DLNA Blu-ray player attached.Decent stock firmware for uncomplicated-intermediate usage. Supports a guest network on every single band, and can use a distinct security scheme or no safety for the guests.v1 is supported by DD-WRT right now. Version two may possibly not be as very good? See Other Thoughts under.Stock firmware not for advanced customers. DD-WRT has much much more functionality. The new v2 is not yet supported by DD-WRT (but possibly will be in time).Internal antennas require pointing the router for the greatest throughput. I wish suppliers would quit going for the sleek look and have removable external antennas. The course you point this router makes a important difference. I was acquiring a reported connection speed of about 168 mbps with some drops below that. Played 1080ቺp video fine but 1080ኘp had some glitches. Then I pointed the front of the vertically-standing router towards the client bridge and about 15 degrees off. Signal strength increased, the repoted connect speed was at least 216mbps and I've observed it at 270. 1080ኘp video plays very smoothly now.USB assistance is slow. I purchased the initial version of this router and have been incredibly satisfied with it. 2.4GHz throughput and range is superb. 5GHz overall performance throughput is just about as excellent and range is very good but not great -- which tends to make this about as great as any other 5GHz router. I have a two.4GHz DD-WRT repeater bridge connecting to it without matters. I have a 5GHz client bridge handling video. I was about to get a second 1 but read smaller net builder's test of the new v2. 2.4GHz overall performance is as good, but 5GHz overall performance has gotten worse, and it wasn't wonderful to commence with. It looks like Netgear may well have created v2 more affordable to produce. My guess on why -- Netgear announced the WNDR4000 at CES, as their new flagship router. Therefore this router is going to drop in price to make room. So they're cutting corners to keep profit margin.I'll wait for a refurbished v1 unless v2 redeems itself in future v1 vs. v2 tests. Pity.

The item was effortless to setup. It capabilities are simple to configure. The wifi range was greater than my G router.1 problem i had was: I purchased this router to prioritize my games site visitors more than the other 5 customers on networks traffic. But when i setup the QOS the other computer systems on my network began possessing easy site browsing problems (extremely slow internet page loading). I ended up locating out it was the NAT firewall causing the issue. When i switched the nat to open and checking the check box alternative I forget what is is referred to as. The internet for the rest of the network guests started working quickly as soon as once again. That was the only problem i skilled with this device. The USB port for the tough drive performs great. And its fast I get transfer rates of 8-10 mb/s which is comparable to the speed my USB challenging drives transfer at when directly connected to my Pc. Nat firewall combined with QOS causes other network computer systems to have slow internet browsing. All round this is the greatest router i have had so far. Knocking 1 egg for the Nat firewall concern. My video game latency has been cut in half from getting this router and setting up the QOS to priorities my game visitors only.

This is a update to a previous evaluation. After a month or so, the wireless became regularly unreliable. Wireless > Wired I was obtaining typical latency of 450 ms, with about 25% packet loss, ftp transfers of about 300 KB/s.With my old router (hooked back up now), a Buffalo .WZR-HP-G300NH. Working with the identical laptop and desktop for testing, I am getting common latency of 3ms, % packet loss, and ftp transfers of 4 MB/s from the precise identical spot. Enormous distinction. Sincerely confused how this router has so many high critiques, I have factory reset it many times, and the only issue netgear had to offer right after that was "that's weird". I guess I get to throw this router up for auction and hope for the ideal. Manufacturer Response:I apologize for the issues that you are obtaining with the frequent drops. I bought this router since of its high ratings and supposed compatibility with Mac. Sadly, I had difficulty setting it up. I named Netgear's consumer service, and was routed to their contact centre in India. After half an hour, the tech support hung up on me. I then called my service provider, who could not assist either. I attempted once again, but Netgear wasted another half hour of my time. Newegg was no better. The buyer service rep was indifferent, and maintained that they do not present tech assistance. Finally I went into an Apple retailer. What a difference! They supply full pre- and right after sales service enthusiastically and graciously. I spoke with a actual individual, face to face. Anytime the client service rep had difficulty addressing a query, he went to a colleague. I decided to get the Airport Extreme on the spot, even although it was โ a lot more. When I ran into troubles setting up the router once more, I known as Apple Care, and they took the time to difficulty shoot, even even though I did not buy Apple Care as an further. He lastly fixed the challenge. I am now a loyal customer for life. Apple has it figured out: it's not just the products, it's the know-how that counts. That's why the Apple Outlets are packed all day with clients, even in a recession. When you compete on the basis of cost, you will never win the game!

Wanted to take benefit of channel-bonding. Non-gigabit N-draft routers can't.Netgear also has a background of poor firmware out-of-the-box and in upgrades. I generally flash netgear routers with DD-WRT for that reason.Lastly, I haven't knowledgeable any of the difficulties mentioned in prior critiques. It has worked like a champ for more than month now. I do not have any concerns with this load. My previous linksys wrt400n could not take care of half of this. The menu is also really uncomplicated to use and set up is a breeze. Dual band operationUncomplicated Set UpNAS Fairly expensiveRange appears just okOnly semi-compatible with DD-WRT (mixed results) and not compatible with TomatoCannot be configured as bridge With the latest price drop on this item it is a lot far more of a worth than it was at its preceding price point.I bought this item virtually solely for its 5GHz operation and no complaints about heat. It has run effectively and to my expectations allowing me to get rid of all my devices from the 2.4GHz band which was obtaining main interference matters.Firmware could be far better, would like to see a network bridge alternative. Guest networks are offered which is great if you are continuously obtaining persons use your web connection. WDS is obtainable but only with WEP safety. There was a current firmware drop that added IPv6 and some other attributes but there had been many negative results posted by customers. I skilled problems with web sites not loading sometimes or not all the way. Netflix films would work the first time but every time right after that would have to be started twice. I did a lot of study seeking for a dependable N router following a incredibly negative encounter with a Trendnet N router. Before that I utilized a Netgear g router and it was extremely reliable by no means dropping a connection. That was the purpose why I trusted all the positive reviews about this Netgear N router. It right away updated its firmware to the most recent firmware by itself when I attempted to make an internet connection. The finest issue I like about it is that when Comcast has network problems, I don't have to re-cycle cable modem and router any far more with this router following Comcast problems get fixed. It automatically repairs wireless connection inside a handful of minutes! No far more exercising obtaining under my desk for re-cycling both cable modem and router (not actually a con). You will not regret purchasing this router. I am very impressed with Netgear products and will have business with them until I get in difficulty (I hope it will by no means come about). Particularly effortless setup.Great range. None. I wanted an 'n' router due to the fact all the wireless devices (blue ray w/ netflix, xbox 360, ps3) had connection/performance/lag concerns with my old 'g' router. When I set up this router (which took just a few minutes from opening box to working with it), there were no additional problems with my wireless devices. I've read other critiques about issues with this router and vpn, but I've had zero. I'm able to operate from house with no troubles whatsoever. It does what it advertises, and it so far has not needed to be challenging reset. It configures quite easily and has a really easy to use configuration web page. Port forwarding, firewall exceptions, static IPs, prioritization, and several other functions are not only straightforward to configure but also perform as expected when you hit the button to apply the alterations. The wireless often drops for a moment and then comes ideal back up again, but that could be for a number of causes, and it is not a difficulty that is exclusive to this router (however it is far much less often occurring with this router than with other routers I've applied). The wireless range is not as excellent as I was hoping for, but see the other thoughts for additional thoughts on this. Range: The range is adequate for most purposes, but if you're banking on the increased range of a wireless N device to make or break your potential to connect, this router isn't the best decision. It may reach the N distance rating in perfect conditions, but it's not dependable at that far of a range by any stretch of imagination. If you are well inside range or up close, it's quite trusted. The fact that I'm not pushing the bleeding edge of the N ratings signal range, and thinking about that wireless performance relies heavily on what the signal is passing through, I wont dock an egg for range.
