You definitely cannot compete with this cost. There is plenty of room for a motherboard and CPU coolers. A single of my key concerns was the manufacturer not providing the drive cages (this has occurred just before), but they are all included in this package. It integrated lots of screws, however I don't think there are adequate screws for all 20 drives. The fans are a basic drop-in, onto a power plane which consolidates into 1 four-Pin Molex connector to simplify items. The chassis has extraordinary cooling, which could be backed off a bit to lessen noise and power consumption. I have only two drives mounted at this time (I could modify my mind). I've worked in IT for over 15 years, and for a server-based solution, this is no exactly where near as loud as other folks have made it out to be. When I powered it on, I was expecting to wake the dead. Maybe it is a tiny louder than the old Dell Precision workstations. For what it is and what it expenses, I would probably buy yet another if I necessary it. If you perform on systems for a living, it's not a large deal. Otherwise, there isn't a scrap of paper integrated that even tells you the part quantity of the chassis. No manual. The drive backplane IS flimsy, but as stated by onesome else, you plug in your cables after and overlook about it. Backplane guides and locks aren't so great. I removed the thumscrews and replaced them with 6-32 screws and a massive washer. This was due to the bottom plane popping out... just since it wanted to. So, the guide at the bottom is only supported by the sheetmetal chassis which can flex if no other server is below it. Each plane demands one of these (total four, unless you obtain spares):http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816133033The stick-on membrane buttons didn't operate , so I ripped it off and use my pinky to turn the program on and off. It must stay on 24x7 after it is built anyway. The front plate was bent a small, but it's not a large deal. A hammer and a piece of 2x4 will f On the other hand, this is usually for a server/work environment, not a desktop/home atmosphere, so don't anticipate Silent Computer audial efficiency. Once more, it undoubtedly isn't as loud as A lot of servers I've worked with. A lot of servers like from HP or Dell sound like jet engines at idle. This does not, maybe a hair dryer set on low (like some a single mentiond). It came with some mystry parts which will almost certainly get thrown out, and required later. I mated mine with a 600W power supply which is 2x the actual needed rating, at max. It doesn't will need substantially. It's a storage server, iSCSI for me. No require to plug in all 10 power connectors. They are for redundant energy, which this chassis has no provisions for anyway, unless you get a small crafty. All-in-all, this is a very good a single. I didn't give it five eggs since it DOES have cons and there is space for improvement.

Comment:
20 drive bays, great price tag As one more reviewer noticed, the molex power connectors on each and every of the five backplanes is mounted in a extremely flimsy way. I thought I'd snapped off three of them and was going to RMA the entire box, but I decided to take it apart and see what is going on. It turns out that every connector has an electrical connection on the front-most side, and a very weak hot-melt glue connection on the rear-most side. When you push in the molex connector, the hot-melt glue connection just breaks, and the only believe holding the connector to the board is the electrical connection. This is a quite bad style, but it's not the finish of the globe. For any individual preparing on constructing a method with this case, I would recommend removing each of the backplanes from the case very first (each backplane is easily removed with two screws on each sides of the case). As soon as removed, I would gentrly insert a molex Y-cable into every of the power connectors and then re-set up. This will permit you to connect and disconnect the energy to the drive array without placing any added pressure on the molex energy connectors on the backplane.

20 Hotswap drive bays for 跾 - fantastic price tag. lots of room inside even for the biggest of MOBOs. Construction is excellent, but not great. Fitted my desires exactly w/o spending the premium on Supermicro for the similar hotswap config. SAS SFF8087 connectors on the backplanes are excellent space/clutter savers. Construct high quality and design could be better for a few additional dollars. Fan assembly for the drives is bolted in with 7 screws Ɠ of which are beneath the case). This form of factor need to be slotted in have a swift disconnect, like Dell racks or supermicro. Fans are loud. Changed the fan assembly to use 5V alternatively of 12V (modified a Molex power extender to swap rail lines). Significantly better and excellent airflow now for the WD Green drives I have. I would even have utilized 4PIN PWM fans as the M/B i have has four additional PWM headers. Fan assembly need to be effortlessly removed, than the existing 7 screw approach. Might also have the alternative for 120mm fans that consumer could put in, w/o modding the assembly.

Simply place, "bang for the buck" is the reason to purchase this case! If you are seeking for a LOT of storage on the low-cost, this case is tough to beat. You merely can't locate a greater deal than Norco's 20 Hot-Swappable cases for large storage rollouts. Regardless of whether you are creating a server in the case, or you are constructing a DAS, the case supplies a lot of expansion at a fraction of the price of other suppliers. I would say the develop quality is also pretty higher for the price tag point, and the more than all lay out and design is nice. It is a really forgiving case. I imply it liked the consumer grade ATX motherboard and PSU just fine, and it would also take my Xeon motherboard and redundant PSU just as effectively, and it has a lot of mounts for a plethora of other options. Cable management isn't the greatest, but it is pretty good. More than all, even even though the make excellent is higher for the price tag, it nevertheless is only mediocre in common. The rails on the HD caddies are not effectively secured, though they do operate nicely, and the provided screws are Incredibly low top quality. You can effortlessly round out the philip's head, making it next to not possible to reuse the screw, and they do use particular flat screws. The connectors on the fans are Incredibly flimsy and really hard to connect up to a PSU molex mainly because they don't want to stay aliened. There is not a lot of hand space between the fan tray and the backplanes, so it is challenging to connect all of the SATA cables, and routing requires longer cables because they all have to go by means of holes in the center of the fan tray. They have a ridiculously poor mount for the slim optical drive, only mounting from behind the drive, and effortlessly enabling the drive to slip out of spot when installed. The rear fans are Very loud for a household server, but there is a remedy for that! :) The rear fans are loud if you are using this at home and not in a server space. If you are utilizing higher efficiency equipment this is probably unavoidable, nonetheless if you are working with cool equipment and 'green' drives, the fans are more than kill. I identified using the "APEVIA FC-01 Multi Fan Speed Controller" to slow down the rear fans made a big improvement, and I nevertheless have excellent circulation for my configᚼ x 1.5TB WD Green 3.5" HDs2 x 80GB WD blue two.5" HDsAMD X4 two.5Ghz8GB ECC 800Mhztwo x Dell SAS six/iR400W Corsair 80 PLUS (more than sufficient for this) Solaris 11 Express / ZFSOver all if you are seeking to create a affordable NAS I Very advocate this case!

- 20 drives in a single case- decent price per installed drive ration -Horrible high quality on backplanes-Proprietary screws that are tough to discover are utilized by way of the entire box-Drive trays can be sticky Bought the case, assembled it, removed and replaced Delta screamer fans, installed OS....and then what...four out of 5 backplanes have challenges. This is not a warm fuzzy feeling creator. I am waiting on Habey USA, the importer of these instances to send me replacements but each card apparently costs 50 bucks. I was hoping to get a handful of spares in case the new ones go bad later. This is so NOT cool.Would be an great case if Norco could increase their excellent manage.

As lots have currently stated... this is an great, low-cost way to get into a case with Enormous room for development for a DIY WHS (or any other NAS OS) construct. I outgrew my five drive case extremely rapidly Ɩ months), and was happy to be capable to move to this case for the chassis of my new server create. I study LOTS of critiques prior to I ordered this, so I knew what to expect, and I'm satisfied with the product. Pay focus to what persons are saying and you'll be happy with this case. I went over the complete case prior to installing components in it to guarantee anything was working, and I suggest you do the exact same.Plug a drive into every slot of every backplane to make certain it operates.Buy Y moltex energy cables for every single backplane (there are five total) and plug the Y cables into the backplanes incredibly gently. This way you only have to plug some thing into the moltex plugs on the backplane once (PEOPLE, TAKE THE HINT, THEY ARE FLIMSY, BE GENTLE WITH THEM!).Don't force the drives in! Make certain the SATA plugs are lining up before snapping the drives shut.If you care about noise where the server is going, acquire quiet replacement 80mm fans (there are 6 total).Make sure you have the correct SAS cables for the backplanes.Basically, just do your homework. This IS a excellent deal for the money. Do a tiny bit of operate on your component and you'll end up with a good system for the $$ you have invested. This is for creating an Inexpensive server with lots of capacity. No, it's not IBM good quality, but for the cash, it's fantastic.

Cheap for what you get. Also affordable, as in cheaply created. The backplanes had been warped and I didn't learn this till months into ownership when I attempted adding a lot more drives into the other rows. Forget about contacting Norco. They will gladly sell you a piece of junk but will not stand behind their items. My corporation will be moving towards anything with far better assistance in the future. Supermicro comes to mind. The fan they included sound like jet engines. There's a guy promoting a custom created fan plate for 120mm but it'll expense you. In spite of many and a lot of requests to Norco to make 120mm fan plates, they refuse to listen to their shoppers. Figures. Also watch your fingers while installing elements. Some really serious bloody cuts can result if you don't watch them. For the money, this is a fantastic case. It's pretty strong, has lots of area inside, and does precisely what it says on the tin.As mentioned, there is LOTS of space inside the case for cables and the motherboard. In some strategies it's a con, given that all the cables you almost certainly have laying around won't be lengthy enough, and you're going to will need to order new ones. Energy provide cables are extended adequate, just make confident that your PSU supports sufficient molex plugs to connect up the drives - and you only will need 5 of them (ie half), since the other 5 are for redundant power supplies. There's also space above the drive cage for a slimline DVD drive, and a couple of laptop drives. I have these wired up to my motherboard and use them as a RAID boot drive for the server, with all the data on the hot swap bays. There are some cons for this case. The fan bay is a pain to take away (tho you don't have to do it also often) - there are 7 screws, some of which are below the case, so it's a pain to get them all.The stock fans are a bit noisy, but depending on your place, this may possibly not be also considerably of an situation. My case is going to be a media server case in my basement, so in my case, it's not a large deal.A different concern with the fans, are that they'd don't come with fan guards, so any spare cables in the primary compartment of the case require to be tied down appropriately and kept out of the way - tho I ordered and fitted some fan guards for my piece of mind.An additional concern with this case is the documentation, or rather, the lack of it. There was NONE in my shipment. I've been creating computers due to the fact 1977, so it wasn't as well considerably of an concern for me, but for someone who is inexperienced, it will be a lot more of a dilemma; see all the confusion in critiques here no matter whether you will need to wire 5 or 10 molex plugs. I've had this case running for a year now, and have been exceptionally pleased with it so far - but as murphys luck would have it, a couple of the lights on the drive trays have either gone out, or are quite dim, and of course, the years warranty expires in a couple of days. I've emailed off to their tech help, so we will see how responsive they are.Overall tho, I would recommend this case - I will most likely be getting a different. I would also strongly recomment this case more than the 4020 purely for SFF8087 connectors, which tends to make the wiring A lot less complicated ƕ cables rather than 20 to connect your drives) - just assure that you buy extended sufficient cables.

A lot of case for the cash. Drive trays swap relatively effortlessly. Solid building overall. Tooless prime cover removes very easily for simple access to interior elements.Every element of the case's internal elements (fan board, tray frame, and so forth.) is modular and replaceable. This is valuable for routing cables, upgrading components, and repairing components when essential (see Cons). Two of the drive trays did not seat effectively. Following total disassembly of drive tray frame, the issue was traced to tiny tray stops that had been bent. I was able to very carefully bend the stops into suitable shape with needle nose plyers to fix the issue. One particular of the backplanes was undesirable and had to be replaced. Not a flaw per-se, but I want the case was a bit taller so the top rated shelf could accept normal three.5 drives (the present case is developed for 2.five laptop drives) and typical CD/DVD drives. I was going back and forth about rating 3 or 4 stars but chose the later simply because Norco's help is really fantastic. They shipped a replacement backplane at no cost within 24 hours at no cost to me. Additional, they provided very good troubleshooting advice that saved me from unecessarily replacing drive trays. All round, I do recommend this case.

numerous hard drive bays some of the really hard drive tray LEDs barely light up. I don't know if it's an alignment problem or if it's the LED that's not bright sufficient. This case makes use of "REVERSE SAS Breakout Cable" and not a typical SAS breakout cable. Believed I could save some money reusing some old sas breakout cable, but they didn't function. It tends to make sense, considering that it's developed to go from a SAS connector to yet another SAS connector.

20 bays! Fairly possibly the last case I'll ever need to have for property storage. The four major fans are LOUD and higher pitched 񣃄RPM Deltas, model FFB0812EHE). Extremely tough to get rack-mounted with the RL-20 rails sold here (and advisable by norco on their site) see my review of the RL-20 for details. Mine, also, was a bit challenging to get the bays in on the left side, but they do function. If you are using in a household atmosphere, appear for a replacement fan board. The two rear 80mm fans are not almost as loud and could be deemed acceptable for household use.

the specs are close to the same but the one shipped to me had changed a little.the floppy bay was removed but I wont cry over that. the spot is better served by a second 3.5" drive and raid 1 combo for the OS.the internal steel bracket that holds the 4 fans has the goofy/useless second plastic bracket to hold the fans. problem is its engineered by somebody who may favor a eyeball over a measuring tool nothing lines up and the factory had to bend a few sets of pins on the three pin headers just to get the fans to connect. best thing you can do is to rip that cheap ass plastic crap out and just screw the fans to the metal bracket.no room to plug things in on the back plains but if you move the four fans to the other side of the steel bracket you have just enough room to get your hand in there and make connections.the set of four fans on the internal bracket do not move much air and are loud should that be a concern for you. I'm going to take the bracket out and to a metal shop today to see if they can make a new one to hold 3X 140's. it will make the case silent along with removing the two fans on the back of the case and still over provide for its cooling needs.on a more positive note the hotswap bays are well done, they align just fine and are smooth unlike a lot of other enclosures on the market you end up fighting a little with to get the drives back in.the price is fair for what it is and more so when you compare it with say Supermicro and its 80's style computer pricing. Quality is lower but this gap is not so large and easy to make up for if you are only buying a case or two.in the end this case is a fine choice, I would buy this case again.

Great case for the value. Lots of area to mount mobo. I didn't encounter any sharp edges or have any troubles with it being "out of square" and tricky to get lid off or on as other people have had concerns with. Running breakout cables and hd led/power switch cables got a little bit tight as the fans in the center of the situation don't leave a lot of room.... not so tight that I actually take into account it a con or worthy of less eggs. The fans are quite loud but that is to be expected. I almost certainly will replace with three 120mm fans or drop the four 80mm fans down to 7v to quiet it down a bit. Hats off to Norco for placing out a consumer friendly and relatively inexpensive situation. I'm impressed enough with Norco that I'm about to order a 2U case from them.

The case has a incredibly good layout. In fact, if it weren't for the con, this situation would be awesome. Plenty of space for motherboards. Certain enough, 20 bays. The SAS cabling is considerably nicer, but make certain you have the cables with your card (Newegg doesn't carry the generic cables at the time of this review). The SAS backplanes are garbage. A single of the molex connectors came loose with just the normal energy snuggle-in rendering a row of the bay dead. Worse, the trays are inexpensive and flimsy. Now, I wouldn't care except that on the left side of the chassis the sata/power do not line up ideal regardless of the really snug fit of the bay to the tray. I'll have to get a flathead screwdrive beneath the backplane to give it a milimeter lift even though sliding these drives in. The case would be oh so fabulous if the SAS backplane had been beefier. I won't purchase yet another. It's like having the coolest rock band there to play at your celebration, but the energy is out. ><

Price tag, storage capacity, SFF-8087 connectors. My drive cages on the left side slide seriously tough. The fan wall was a PITA to reinstall compared to my 4020. Its a very good situation general. The new wall design is superior overall, because you don't have to undo all of your cables to take it out. The method of screwing it back in is just a tiny hard. It practically appears like my situation is warped. Oh yea and the fans are way louder than the ones on the 4020 and there is 1 much less. I unplugged two of them on the wall. 20 hot swap drives for the fraction of the price of most other goods on the market. Help for redundant PS. Lackof documetation. Even though this may not appear like a massive deal to those of us that have put together hundreds of systems I honestly have to say I never thought to try running the system without having completely populating all 10 molex energy connectors. Thanks to the earlier poster for pointing out only 5 are essential. Flimsy drive trays althouth they fit much better once a drive is actually installed into them. Though the fans are loud I located that using 4 of the Zalnman fan mate 2 devices (Item#:N82E16835118217) as wel as configuring the rear fans to use the red and black 5v connectors you can significantly lower the quantity of noise this unit prodeuces.

Norco RPC-4220 20 Bay Hot Swap SATA/SAS 4U Rackmount Server Case *No PSU Included*
Comment:
20 hot swap bays, SAS backplanes, LOTS of space about MoBo area. Good appear as well The key con is the sound, this case utilizes a bunch of 80mm Delta screamers to move air. I believe the planes I fly are quieter than this thing! (well... not quiet, but I've observed dB measurements in the 70+ range from some persons with this case. Also, the fit amongst the backplane and the fan bracket is fairly tight, less difficult to remove the fans to connect almost everything then reinstall as soon as completed. Overall, you can't go incorrect for the value. There is someone selling a modified fan bracket to enable you to use 3x120mm fans to replace the delta screamers with quieter fans with equal CFM. It also seals off the HDD's from the rest much better to stop air from circulating about from the back and limiting air movement from more than the HDD's. The fit/finish are great and I'm seeking forward to filling this up with 20 drives as element of my unRaid Media Storage server.
