I purchased one of these just to transfer files from computer to computer. I found through a little research that Windows 7 will accept up to 8 external devices and up to 256GB of ReadyBoost memory. I decided to try using this device just to see if my new ASUS eee PC would see a difference and it did. I used half of the drive for readyboost and the little thing screamed. Ive since upgraded to an SDHC card because I dont use the slot and didnt like having a thumbdrive sticking out of the mini. Great product and would buy more when the price of the 16 and 32GB sticks drop. |

I have bought a lot of great stuff here, this is not one of them. The computer senses a virus every time I plug this in. Double clicking does not open this drive, I have to right click and select 'open.' The plastic case is so flimsy, it broke apart when it fell on the floor. I put all my work on the drive, then could not find any of it later on. I had to go to CONTROL PANEL and select 'FOLDER OPTIONS' 'VIEW' 'SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS' this drive automatically hid all my work! I thought I was going crazy! No other drive does this stuff, and I have 5 flash drives. Avoid this one, it's a real clunker. |

eMachine Win 98SE computer compatibility

I bought this flash drive to transfer files from my Mac to my old Win 98SE eMachine, which I use for backup file storage. Got the correct driver from Patriot's tech support department but the computer wouldn't recognize the drive. I have to give 5 plus stars to the manufacturer's tech, Benny Chea, who exchanged about a dozen emails with me trying to solve the problem. I never expected that high level of customer concern for such an inexpensive item. Patriot's tech service is top notch. Finally discovered that the problem was with hardware. The motherboard in my 11 year old machine supports only USB 1.1. A variety of forums suggest that installing an inexpensive USB 2.0 interface card would upgrade the computer's capabilities to make it compatible with the drive and other USB 2.0 devices currently on the market. I haven't had an opportunity to do this yet. The drive works perfectly on my Mac and on Win XP machines. |
