Rosewill RCW-608 USB2.0 Adapter For IDE/SATA Device (Include Protection case)
Comment:
This cable has served me properly for over a year. To the other reviewer, YES, it functions with unformatted drives. I use it all the time to format and/or image new drives. I've even used it to recover lost data from drives making use of RAW mode when a format got trashed. My greatest use is get rid of a drive from a heavily infected Pc and run a virus scan on it even though it is NOT operating the installed OS. You can scrub a drive A lot much more thoroughly that way. USB is rather slow to transfer a lot of information, but that's not the cable's fault. Considering that I purchased a Rosewill SATA "docking station" (N82E16817182197) for accessing unmounted SATA drives, I locate I now only use this cable for PATA drives. I extremely suggest a docking station if you energy up a lot of SATA drives. Incredibly slick.

operates as stated, fast data transfer. A "must have" tech support item. some drives took 1-two attempts to access partitions. Largely IDE. had to eliminate and reconnect. when employing IDE drives, make certain jumper is set to cable pick.

Rosewill RCW-608 USB2.0 Adapter For IDE/SATA Device (Include Protection case)
Comment:
This adapter is incredibly easy to set up and use. It comes with protective situations for both desktop and laptop drives. It has detected and permitted me to access every single drive I connected to, from a fairly new SATA drive to a 10 yr old IDE drive, it just functions. If you transfer information a lot or work in Computer repair, you want 1 of these. It's excellent. A carrying case for the adapter and energy provide would have been good. I'll possibly obtain a smaller camera case to keep every thing in. Some critiques had indicated difficulties with laptop drives not working due to power specifications. I have connected a compaq 30gb drive and a toshiba 40gb drive, no problems, lots of energy from my usb port.

Did precisely what I needed it to: allowed me to recover files from the drives on my dearly departed old box. Easy to use as soon as you get the hang of it. Acquiring the hang of it can be a bit difficult. Documentation is sparse, and the CD it comes with doesn't have any autoplay, nor is it clear what you're supposed to do with it. In my case, it turned out that I didn't need to do anything with it, the whole factor worked plug-and-play, so whatever! The versatile situations seemed superfluous, but could be helpful.

Rosewill RCW-608 USB2.0 Adapter For IDE/SATA Device (Include Protection case)
Comment:
Comes with almost everything- like a y-energy adapter with an on/off switch for IDE or SATA energy connections. Even has a silicon glove for three.five and 5.25 drives (so you don't have to sit them on the desk unprotected). Comes with a short Ɣ") SATA cable for SATA-to-Adapter connections. SATA performs great - IDE seems a tiny funny. Even has a tiny cdrom in there with Windows-98 drivers! I can't seem to successfull execute a Full format on any IDE drives. I can do a speedy format and that works fine (I've run the windows-supplied Disk Checker routine with no errors discovered). I can carry out a complete format on any SATA drive with no errors. It's in all probability my drives -- I have a pile of drives from who knows where -- I'll attempt it with a new unformatted IDE drive and see how it goes. I performed a full format on previously utilized SATA drives with no difficulties. As stated in a earlier evaluation - make your energy connection, turn on the switch - then connect the USB cable. Windows XP and Windows 7 pick up the drive correct away (Windows 7 is blazing rapid on device recognition and driver installation).

It works. I've used it on Win 7 64 bit and XP. Difficult drives from a 30 gig notebook drive by means of several sizes of IDE drives and up to a 1 gig SATA drive. Its not USB three. I wish they would come out with a USB 3 version. This is a great device if you have to fool with hard drives. I applied to open the case and plug a single in if correct connections were offered. Now all you need to have is a USB connection.

The rubber sleeves are a nice addition to an otherwise excellent solution. These kinds of adapters have been on the marketplace for some time now, and I wore out my old 1 and necessary a new one particular. So far, it has performed admirably. I like the face that the power adapter has each the typical Molex and SATA energy connectors integrated into the output, bypassing the will need for a Molex to SATA energy adapter. The energy switch is on the output of the energy supply. Although this is handy for turning on and off the DC voltage to the connected device, when off, the transformer nevertheless draws power from the AC outlet. Granted a tiny amount. I guess low power switches are significantly less pricey and potentially a lot more protected than a 120-240VAC inline switch, but to make positive the device is not drawing any AC power, it must be unplugged, unless I use a power strip with a switch. Anyway, a minor con, so I didn't subtract an egg for that. If I could take away a half egg, then I would. I always register my Rosewill devices on their internet site, and I've purchased a few in my time. I'm commonly happy with their items, and Rosewill is 1 of the handful of organizations that I see responding to consumer complaints expressed in feedback. They certainly do seem to stand by their products, even the least high priced ones.

Easy, no want to open up the case to swap out hard drives. three LEDs, a single on the energy provide, one on the switch, and a single inside the translucent black housing to indicate activity. Flaky power switch, on implies off. It have to be in in between the on and off position to turn on, and even then, it flickers, unable to draw a stable amount of power. Had to RMA. Lost 50% of the price tag shipping it back. 2 prong plug... not grounded... not even polarized. Good solution, would have provided it 5 eggs, but poorly made switch produced me spend 50% additional to send it back.

good box, packaged properly, looked worth the income Really fried one particular tough drive, didn't function on another. I'm also afraid to attempt a third. plugged in operating samsung SATA drive and immediately SATA power fried one of the transistors on the controller (even smoke!). Got daring right after that with an old IDE drive I didn't care much about to see if it would destroy that as nicely. That seemed to power up, drive spun, but drive was not recognized in Windows.

I bought a second one particular lately from NewEgg but have owned one particular of these for properly over a year. This is an necessary tool for my workplace, and it's applied rather typically. Powerful build high quality, always recognized by the OS, and no troubles with the power adapaters. This is a leading notch solution that "just works" and has seriously saved us a lot of headaches! No cons! I'm skeptical of earlier evaluations that blame information corruption triggered by this hardware. I've not knowledgeable any data corruption troubles. These difficulties may possibly be connected to the data exsisting on the drives already, and absolutely nothing brought on by this adapter.

I'm an old war horse IT consultant. I've been in the trenches for decades. Two factors I appreciate greatly in the field are killer apps and hardware. They make my life a lot less difficult. This small adapter, IMO, qualifies as killer hardware. It's simple w/ no bloat and it gets the job carried out.I've employed this adapter numerous times diagnosing, repairing and pulling information off of clients' HDDs, and so forth. It's very handy. No want to mount the drive in an external enclosure. Just connect it to my laptop w/ this adapter and I'm off and running. Sometimes I can even get away w/ leaving the HDD mounted in the client's laptop even though using this adapter. An additional plus - it has a energy switch. That is an invaluable feature especially when dealing w/ dying HDDs. The SATA cable is short but that's very easily remedied by using a longer SATA cable when needed. Rosewill did it again. Thank you, Rosewill for an additional fantastic quality, reasonably priced product.

Good design and style. I own yet another a single of these from a diverse manufacturer, and this one particular has a wonderful deisgn in the power leads. I als like the light in the information connection that shows that it is obtaining the power. I have worked with a lot more than 35 Hard Drives (both IDE and SATA) with out a dilemma. None If you have issues with this device, you might need to have to study much more of the technique operation side. At times you will need to go into the DISK MANAGEMENT and Add the drive in order for you to see the Really hard Drive that you are attempting to function with. (Go to Commence, suitable click MY Laptop, and click Handle. in the Computer Management system, pick the DICK MANAGEMENT in the Storage section in order to function with the drive.)

basic, direct connection and use in Win7. when you stick to the directions, its was simple to use. I utilized the adapter shortly following I got it to copy an entire HDD to a new system with no problems. 6 months later, I plug in a new drive into the included energy adapter, flip the switch for energy, and listen as the head scrapes across the platter. I had utilised this drive in my primary technique for more than six months with no hint of a challenge. guessing the power switch electrical connections are shotty. I could clearly demonstrate this to you by connecting a drive and showing how there is a position for the power on switch that is not genuinely on as much as it is screwing up your HDD. you can't sell a solution like this. Most likely shorting or overloading, but I don't have the interest to fix a product a manufacturer is not willing to make properly. Had I realized this was the top quality of the device I was purchasing, the low cost would not have mattered. I study a couple of reviews about the high quality of rosewill merchandise hunting weak and choose to take a chance. I know that this one is low excellent. Purchaser beware. If you care about your hardware, acquire something else with a clean higher high quality item history. Do not take a opportunity on this brand's power adapter. If a representative responds to this, you will will need to go far beyond providing to replace my adapter to open my eyes. There is no middle ground on screwing up a power supply.

Ƒ) It's affordable ƒ) It operates like a charm Ɠ) It can support you make any drive into a USB drive. I have a clunky external hard drive case I was employing to get information from old drives. This new Rosewill adapter requires the spot of it and requires a lot much less shelf space. The box it comes in doubles as a good small case for all the accessories as well. Some other people were commenting on the way the connectors match and no matter whether they would final. It's ษ, so if it breaks you can acquire a new one particular. This isn't going to be a family heirloom, but it will assist you get down to company on old drives. My only regret is hesitating. I was worried about two issues (a) the seemingly unknown brand name (b) the complaints some folks had on the connectors. My only regret is not obtaining it sooner. Who cares if it breaks, you can purchase yet another a single when it does.As for the brand name, once more, it is ษ if it craps out on me I can get a new a single and still place meals on my household's table. Get it you won't be sorry!I'm operating a virus scan on an old desktop drive that had tons of songs in it, but had been taken over by viruses.
