This product is exactly what you need to convert your old laptop hardrive into an external storage device. The only problem is that it has 2 USB connections in order to power the case. Would have preferred one since the front of my computer can only accommodate one at a time.

purchased this because I had 2 hard drives sitting around from old laptop computers that died so that I could access the information on the drives. Works fine for that purpose. Now using an old 12 gig hard drive with the enclosure as a usb drive to store large files and backups

Bought this for a friend who's laptop had become DOA due to a defective motherboard. She didn't want to lose the data on her computer, so we turned her 40GB hard drive into a big flash drive. Sure beats $300 plus for repairs.

Easy installation. Saved what i thought was a lost hard drive. Recommend it to anyone looking for something portable but can hold more than a thumb drive.

This enclosure allowed my 80GB Western Digital IDE to easily fit. The single LED has two color modes. The case is compact but well made. One small complaint--the two screws that secure the endcap are tiny wood type screws that thread into the plastic endcap--they wont last more than a few tightenings. Still worth the selling price though.

Solidly made, easy access. Only needed one USB port for power. Allowed me to rescue stuff from hard drive in a SONY VAIO that bit the dust suddenly (and completely). Now I have a nice portable storage piece. Great product for the price.

got the enclosure, plugged my old 60G laptop hard drive into it then plugged it into 2 usb ports. Was up and running in minutes. Now I have a nice compact 60G 'memory stick' from a HD that would have ended up in the garbage. I highly recommend this enclosure.

This case works great to make a portable external hard drive out of laptop hard drives. The only minor problem I had was that the screws don't go in completely flush on the case. Because of this, the screw will stick out or you might just choose not to use the screws at all. Other than that, it was worth the $10.00 :)

I had trouble getting the case on. Ended up having to bend it slightly to get the screws to line up. After that everything was perfect.

Bought this unit for a friend that had to back up then transfer data from his dead laptop to his new laptop. Great unit. Easy installation, data speeds were fine and it did not seem to overheat the hard drive during the transfer which for a unit without a fan is impressive. Will recommend. Am buying one for myself.

Works great! Easy to use - even a non-techie can easily use this. Looks really nice (much prettier and shinier than the photo; mine also doesn't say anything on it which is a plus!) The screwdriver that comes with it is ok and the screws are really hard to get in but once you get them in you're ready to go!

It does what it is supposed to do. The USB socket is a little loose so it occasionally spontaneously disconnects if the drive or laptop is moved but otherwise it works fine.
