SYBA SD-VIA-1A2S PCI SATA / IDE Combo Controller Card
Comment:
This card is a superior raid controller than I would have imagined for such a low price tag. Set up comes directly following bios at boot and took all of five min. I installed the drivers and monitor utility and was good to go! My system functionality has not been affected, even though I am undertaking raid with two storage drives, not my C drive. Nothing at all so far. Haven't applied the pata however, It shows up clearly as an solution and says it can do raid as nicely. Also has numerous linux drivers on driver disk to opt for from. I am operating RAID 1 with two 750GB Seagate SATA harddisk drives.

was automatically recognized in all my builds even on old MOBOs, speed is ok for file transfers Have not figured out if it is achievable to boot a hard drive or cd-rom drive from this card, I don't feel it is no matter what settings I use, I have a IDE controller card from 1997 that can do this... This card does what it does nicely and practically nothing much more

Super rapid setup. I have it running in a box with Ubuntu server 32 bit Ed as the OS and no drivers are required to recognize the card. I've got 2 SATA's in RAID and 1 PATA connected without having any difficulties. Card bugs out if you connect a second PATA as a slave drive. The card would get five stars if it didn't have that PATA problem

Affordable and does the job no cables or screws :(, but I guess it's ok due to the fact of the cost My stupid mother board took some time to recognize the new device, the screen would go black and stay forever. I decided to acquire this unit right after a SATA to IDE adapter died soon after only 3 months. It operates excellent with Ubuntu Jaunty but I haven't attempted the RAID skills.

Comment:
Low-cost Documentation in card is decent at best. Must prepared to figure out which driver on the cd to use, as the driver cd has about 20 various driver options. The bios array setup and windows gui setup are easy to figure out, but that is exactly where the silver lining ends.I tried to setup a mirror array and did so quickly, but it would not sync. I let these drives sycn for three days Ɩ% completion) till i mentioned forget it. I formatted drives devoid of syncing and can use them, but incredibly poor functionality. Make sure you understand that this card does not help three.0Mbps transfer prices....which is what most hard drives are setup for. Very poor overall performance. Windows application and system logs are overloaded with raid array and disk errors working with brand new equipment. This board is low top quality and really should be avoided.

Great price. Operates as intended. Drivers are eh... But a pro is you don't will need 'em. This card works fine in windows XP and under linux, even when my onboard sata controller won't. Raid is genuinely just software raid, but you can set up to it if you're so inclined and have a floppy. Great for a spending budget card, application raid aside.

The driver integrated in the linux kernel worked without having any hassle. Got speeds of 100MB/s from a single drive. At bootup, By way of BIOS kicks in and enables you to create RAIDs from attached disks. Performs quite well as a debugging tool, too. None so far.

Functions out of the box. Drivers for XP are on the CD. Windows 7 automatically sees it and the drives on it (did not try raid although). My motherboard will not boot from a HD attached to this controller. Installing windows required an additional difficult drive attached directly to the motherboard. MB is old and possibly is the problem. Affordable and (so far, 2 months) dependable

SYBA SD-VIA-1A2S PCI SATA / IDE Combo Controller Card
Comment:
Low cost and provides some extra expandability. Drives attached to this card showed up as boot selections in the method BIOS. I purchased this for its IDE controller. I ran into a wierd problem where if I attached only CD-ROM drives the detection time would be a full minute or far more and severely slow down the method boot. I rearranged the drives a bit and every thing is fine now. Bought this for new construct with some reused IDE drives from the old machine. This provided the additional connections I required for older hardware.

Modest, effortless to set up, and operates If cable is bent just a little, there's a chance your IDE device won't detect on boot.I attempted two various Windows XPs - one with SP2 and one with SP3 and the SP2 one was the only one particular that detected the card and my drives in Windows setup. An RC develop of Windows 7 detected the card also. Not terrible if you need to have an additional IDE and don't have money for any SATA drives

SYBA SD-VIA-1A2S PCI SATA / IDE Combo Controller Card
Comment:
Dirt cheap; SATA drives are more affordable per GB these days than IDE/PATA drives, so it was worth it to commit a few bucks on this card and get a SATA drive for an older machine. Popped it into the PCI slot, and its BIOS showed up right soon after the laptop or computer BIOS. Worked flawlessly with Arch Linux (the new KnoppMyth distribution) - I did completely nothing, and the attached drive was detected with no challenge. No SATA cables, which is lame, but expected these days. Don't forget to order them. Didn't attempt the RAID functionality, and I don't intend to. Kind of nice that it also includes an additional IDE/PATA port - not positive if that can take two drives (master/slave). If so, this card will permit you four more drives in addition to what your motherboard takes. That's a lot of further storage!

Great cost, versatile drive connections, and linux drivers. Detected by Ubuntu Server eight.ten, booting linux from this card. Performs in PCI-X slot (DIFFERENT THAN PCI EXPRESS). Matters with IDE detecting second challenging drive when setting as master/slave. Setting drives to cable select operate although. Have not attempted SATA connections.

It functions! Haven't tried any of its SATA ports even though It wasnt PnP in Windows Server 2003 x86 (Which isn't out of the ordinary), and the program with this card did not have a CD drive so I had to dump the Setup cd as a cd image to load up with a Virtual CD app on that laptop or computer to install the drivers for it.

Seemless integration with BIOS and OS. Method would not recognize the drives attached to it just about every when in a though. Had to powercycle to bring it back up. Only had to power cycle about three times and has been working flawlessly every single due to the fact, haven't tried the raid feature but thats subsequent!

Plugged it in, booted up, gave XP setup the driver (wish you didn't have to use a floppy for that, but didn't want to spring for Windows 7) and it was off to the races. Worked good with a Samsung SATA SpinPoint drive. None. I put this into a Dell Optiplex GX260, didn't have the solution of employing a PCI-Express card. Seemed to be truly quick, but the laptop or computer didn't have a PATA hard drive in it when I got it, so I can't say how significantly better it was than the original.

Comment:
Probably does perform in some systems... I wouldn't know. Crashed and hung my technique whenever I accessed other (IDE) drives while I accessed the SATA drive attached to this card. Soon after each crash Windows would come up quite slowly and finally not at all. I had all of my data backed up from my data drives but that didn't contain the last couple of days of software that updates files on my Windows drive. It took a full evening to get my recent information back and to get an old image of Windows restored. I've been installing hard drives in my systems since it was an art form back in 1984. I thought that I had seen it all but in this era of easy installs the SYBA SD-Via-1A2S bucks the trend. I would never dream that this could have hosed my Windows drive. I paid Ŭ an hour to function an evening for Syba. Manufacturer Response:Dear Customer,We apologize for any inconvenience. This card only supports SATA I challenging drive, you may well want to jumper your SATA II challenging drive to SATA I transfer rate at 1.5Gb/s as the auto speed negotiation could not operate nicely on the tough drive. You may also update your driver from the link listed below. Please extract all the files to your laptop or computer and run the Setup.exe file for installation. All of our items come with at least three years warranty. Please don't hesitate to make contact with us at assistance-us@syba.com if you have any difficulty or question.Regards,Syba Buyer Service 831External Link(s): Driver|
