Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB 2.5in SATA3 Mdx Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD
Cons:Pricey, build quality could be better

Pros:Fast, Samsung driven (not Sandforce), long warranty, reliable?
Comment:
I bought this to replace a failed Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 240, which fell victim to the disappearing SSD syndrome common to Sandforce based SSD's.The build quality of this drive is the worst of the three I have, one being the Mushkin from above, the other is an OCZ Vertex 2. The top housing of the Samsung drive is thin, but very nice looking. The bottom feels thin, hollow and cheap. The other two drives have a much more robust feel to the case overall. The SATA cable latches nicely, which was lacking on the Mushkin drive.Install and setup were fine. Speed seems really good so far.Only reliability remains to be seen. Hopefully the Samsung controller outshines Sandforce in the long run.I would give 4.5 stars for the mediocre build quality and high price if I could. Given that this drive seems to be best-in-class and has yet to disappoint otherwise, 5 stars it is. This review was modfied by poster @ 02-15-14 12:58 PM

Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB 2.5in SATA3 Mdx Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD
Cons:No Mounting bracket

Pros:Super Fast, 5yr warranty, Top of the line
Comment:
Got this to replace a 128GB OCZ Vertex3 drive. This SSD is much faster and has a 5yr warranty with 256GB of space.I Download the software from Samsung's site. There version of the drive copy software on there site and did not work for me (windows). so I used the Intel software (I have and old Intel drive as well)instead and it worked fine (command line on boot).

Making the jump from ATA to SSD, what a world of a difference. Windows boots in 4 seconds flat. I'm looking forward to installing Linux on this to see how much faster that will take! What a difference from my old ATA.I was surprised at how light it was. No drivers or messy installation required either!

Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB 2.5in SATA3 Mdx Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD
Cons:No mounting bracket, average price

Pros:Small, black, fast
Comment:
I installed it and it came as advertised. I used the Samsung magic software that it with. It worked as advertised. Made all me read and writes, speeds and all those fancy numbers and letters. I likes using the software to partition the space Samsung wants you to have free for the controller. Then having the software default the rest of my settings to optimize the ssd was nice. No complaints. I am only going to wait and see how long it lasts. Oh, I do have my operating system on it, and a couple games, that's it. Movies, ect are all on different disks. One complaint. No mounting bracket. Not impressed for this price/quality. I already had an old 2.5 bracket, so good to go. Mind you my new and most new case have 2.5 bays built in. So maybe, meh?

Cons:Might be a bit costly for now.

Pros:Fast, one of the best
Comment:
Just got this SSD, My previous one was one of the first gen of SSD that went out, few years ago. And I wanted to improve a bit, this SSD is one of the best, 256gb is enough for few games and OS. And faster then a 120gb. I would recommande to any who want a good SSD.

Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB 2.5in SATA3 Mdx Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD
Cons:No included adapter , no thermal pads on SSD

Pros:Samsung quality , smaller in height , 2.5" form factor ,5 year warranty
Comment:
There isn't really much you can describe  an SSD with. It is fast and also somewhat roomy. In this case with a 256Gb you can do an OS drive + applications + games and not run out of space depending on how much is installed. This drive is perfect as both a secondary and a primary drive and in my case it came with the latest f/w DXM05B0Q. It also comes with a 5 year warranty and is a very slim drive in height (7mm vs 9mm). However Samsung should ship these drives with an adapter for the price we pay and also consider adding thermal pads as other manufacturers do. I can understand that they don't want to add thermal pads due to the low consumption but it helps to reduce temperature and also directs heat away from the pcb.I originally considered the Vector 256Gb but if you read the reviews you will see the Vector from OCZ has high failure rates and issues even with the latest f/w.

Pros:1$/GB for a SSD is a good deal, One of the best rated SSDs out there.

Enough storage for your primary applications and games, top notch performance. Restarting windows is basically blinking twice and you're back in.

Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB 2.5in SATA3 Mdx Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD
Cons:Truecrypt full disk encryption slows benchmarks a lot

Pros:Fast, reliable
Comment:
I finally took the plunge and switched from hard drive to SSD. Great product, it's fast and easy to set up. Boot up times are a fraction (i.e. several times faster) than hard drive. But the magician and Crystalmark benchmarks before and after full disk encryption with Truecrypt are huge. Sequential benchmarks are rather similar but random read and writes are about 1/5 as fast when you encrypt with Truecrypt. So I decided to decrypt.

Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB 2.5in SATA3 Mdx Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD
Cons:A bit pricey

Pros:Fastest SSD out there
Comment:
Thanks to Samsung SSDs - the 830 was the first I bought - I've made the switch permanent to SSD and have never looked back. The 840 Pro is amazing, if you can take advantage. For most the 840 / 840 Evo will be enough esp. if the price is right. The downside is that the pro series is a bit expensive for the modest uptick in performance but hopefully prices will come down soon.

Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB 2.5in SATA3 Mdx Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD
Cons:- Quality SSDs are still generally very expensive.

Pros:- Very fast SSD- Excellent quality and reliability
Comment:
I still have relatively little experience with SSDs but in terms of boot speed and load speeds for applicants that you use frequently, it's the only way to go. If you can get them on sale, they're definitely worth it.

Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB 2.5in SATA3 Mdx Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD
Cons:- Haven't achieved advertised read/write speeds- A lot of windows options I had to configure using an internet guide to make sure I get a good long life from my SSD.

Pros:- Best single upgrade for older PC and New- Great brand- Reliable, easy to install- Sizable storage, at 256GB (238gb usable)
Comment:
So, get one of these if you don't have an SSD yet. They are really great devices. I never knew how much a single component (my HDD) could bottleneck the system. My only gripe with this unit so far, and I think it is just my older Motherboard or my ignorance to figure it out, but I only get 408 mb/s Read speeds and 244 mb/s write speeds out of the advertised 500/500. I have my 6gb/s SATA cable hooked to it, but I think it's the Marvell Drivers limiting it.All in all, get this drive on sale, you won't regret it!

Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB 2.5in SATA3 Mdx Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD
Cons:Price

Pros:Extremely fast. Boots (using UEFI) into windows 8 in less than 5 seconds.
Comment:
Is extremely fast. Assuming you are using as a boot drive make sure to force your motherboard to use UEFI mode only when installing the OS or it will install using the legacy BIOS mode and boot times will be much slower.General use is great - it will speed up your system no matter what hardware you are using. I have both the regular Samsung 840 and the Pro version, and I think the Pro series is probably worth the extra cost - it is significantly faster and comes with a much better warranty. Cons:None

Pros:Speed and reliability

This SSD delivers as promised in the specs.I put one in my 17" MacBook Pro (Early 2011) and it screams. Blackmagic Disk Speed Test shows writes at 490 MB/s and reads at 515 MB/s. I moved my original Apple 128 GB drive to the DVD bay and it only gets 185 MB/s on writes and 210 GB/s on reads. The Samsung is SATA3 with negotiated link speed of 6 Gb. The Apple is SATA2 which negotiates at 3 Gb (although the 2nd channel on this particular MBP will handle 6 Gb).I'm now looking for another, possibly a 512 GB for my next computer. I'm very impressed with this Samsung. The last SSD's I bought were OCZ Agility 3 and Vertex 2. It's impressive to see the performance improvements as well as the reduced cost/GB as this technology matures.

Pros:- Holy Crap! It's FAAAST- Very thin design compared to similar SSDs on the market- Uses a 3-core Processor in its controller chip for impressive iOPS performance.- Top Performance Trading blows with the OCZ Vector Lineup of SSDs

Very satisfied with this purchase. Upgraded from two 60GB OCZ Vertex 2 SSDs in RAID0 and the Samsung drive easily outperforms them. Very impressed :)

Installed windows 7...Boot up Time is Quick to say the least,CrystalDiskmark says 495mb/sec Read Seq & write 460mb/sec/Samsung Magician Build in Benchmark software says 554mb/sec Read & Write 525mb/sec...About the CD being Useless,i decided to Look at the Samsung Site on Product information & their is a newer, better looking updated version of Samsung Magician 4.0 Vs the one that comes on CD that is V3.1..so it's pretty much a waste of time popping the cd in...& go for this brand,it has a 5 year warranty vs 3 of the competition, that's plenty of time & ease of mind if anything goes wrong..
