click of death - no RMA possible
Cons: Within the first six months the drive began to make loud, repetitive clicking noises. A quick search of the internet yielded the suggestion that this was the "click of death." However, the drive still passes all of the Seagate diagnostic tests. Now, no one who uses this site would be comfortable using a HDD that suddenly started making strange noises. I contacted Seagate via chat with a tech support person and was told not to RMA the drive unless the diagnostic tool returned an error code. I then asked whether I was safe using the drive and was told, "That depends on your comfort level." Well my comfort level is low and I purchased a new drive.
Pros: Speedy and capacious. Quiet, when its working properly (see below). I have had none of the issues related to the firmware that others are reporting. Comment:

Good for the price, we'll see about the long haul
Cons: None yet, lets hope all 3 drives pass S.M.A.R.T and come back clean.
Pros: Price - I was in the market for building a WHS (Windows Home Server) box and I had been waiting for a good deal on some 7200RPM drives. Newegg once again delivers with a great dealSpeed - 7200RPM drives, and not the "Green" drives promoted by WD or other companies. Size vs. Cost - 1.5TB really hits the sweet spot on the cost per GB once the promo code kicks in, and free shipping too! Not to mention newegg even shipped same day =) Comment:
Drive comes with a 3 year warranty vs. 5 year warranty as seen in some of the higher models. I can live with the 3year warranty, and seagate has never let me down in the past.I look forward posting feedback later this weekend when the drives come in. According to HardOCP, if I put these drives in a Raid-5 array I might even see burst speeds that come close to a SSD... we shall see! |

It appears all issues are resolved.
Cons: None as of yet.
Pros: 1.5tbFastQuiet Comment:
I've watched these drives for months now and finally decided to order at $109 each. Two of these in a RAID 0 enclosure and all appears to work as expected.(Issues wit the enclosure were not the fault of the drives) |

Seagate Drives Are Like Russian Roulette, You Eventually Lose
Cons: Drive clicks repeatedly after running a bad sector check and Seagate tools. I sent the drive back and the replacement drive did the exact same thing. I had the latest firmware on both drives. It's bad that Seagate won't realize that there is an actual issue with this drive, and it's been going on for almost 2 years.Remember folks, companies don't listen to customers, only lawyers. Class action lawsuit sounds nice right now.
Pros: I now know to run extensive tests on hard drives before using them in production and to stay away from this drive. Comment:

Trouble prone . .
Cons: Worked well for about 3-4 months in my Windows Home Server. Ran somewhat hot, even with fans blowing blowing directly on the drives - about 31-32 deg (C) at idle. Plagued by the notorious ".11 series" firmware issues. Drive would go "offline" and drop out of the server storage array whenever there was high I/O or a disk defrag would run. Firmware update was no help. Currently working with Seagate on an RMA.
Pros: Price, perpendicular recording allows high platter density. Comment:
Seagate drives were the first to incorporate perpendicular recording, and they had a 5-year, instead of the more common 3-year warranty. But that is history as they have reverted back to a 3-year like everyone else. Their problems seem to have started shortly after buying out Maxtor. . Bad influence, perhaps? I've no experience with the newer ".12 series" Seagate drives, so I can't comment on whether the firmware issues are resolved.Replaced 2 of these with Samsung EcoGreen drives - run 11-12 degrees cooler and no issues to date. |

quickly failing sectors = FAIL
Cons: out of its 36 sector threshold, 35 have been reallocated in 4 months. 4 months to failure?! i had to take it out of my home server and to wait until newegg ships its replacement, a <brand> 1.5TB drive. im going to send it into seagate and try to get it replaced, hopefully its just the one drive. i dont have a lot of hope, considering the issues others have had. seagate! why have you done this to us?!and to think, i was so happy getting it on black friday....
Pros: cheap, fast, HUGE storage Comment:

Doesn't Work
Cons: My Girlfriend bought me this HDD for Christmas. I have spent the last 3 months trying to get this hard drive to work. My device manager reconizes the drive but when you click on computer it only so my manin hard drive. I went to seagates web page and downloaded seagate tools and it reconizes both of my seagate hard drives my main hard drive is 750 gig seagate HDD but when I try to test it the test wont work. I even downloaded the firmware update for this model and that doesn't work either. I have a dell 720 I downloaded the updates for seagate HDD from the dell site that didn't work either. So I have come to the conclusion that this HDD is poor choice for a large HDD.
Pros: None Comment:
If your gonna buy a seagate HDD be sure to read the reviews first to make sure that it is Working for everyone that is buying the product. |

Same freezing issue as the rest
Cons: - Same freezing issue that most of these drives succumb to. Mine happened after about 6 months of use. At least i was able to pull my data off of it (albeit very slowly) to another drive.- My drive shipped with the CC1H firmware so the Seagate firmware tool couldn't update.- I now have a $110 1.5 TB hard drive that can't be used and sits in a closet. Awesome.
Pros: - High capacity- Read/Write was fast when it worked- Decently quiet. I couldn't hear it over anything else in my system.- Didn't fail...completely? Comment:
I've since switched to Samsung for my storage needs and after a month, both of my 1.5TB drives seem to be spinning away fine. Time will tell if these fare any better than my Seagate, but i'm now weary of purchasing any Seagate products in the future because of this. If Seagate can actually come out with a die hard FIX for the freezing on these drives, i MIGHT buy another one again. For now, i'm steering clear. |

Massive
Cons: My secondary drive only has 300GB free :-( Also for some reason I can only achieve a 5.9 on the 7.9 performance scale on Windows 7 because of hard drive.
Pros: These are huge, even for todays standards. I have 2 of these, one for my main drive (I install a lot of high-end games that take about 8-12GB each, and also I keep my pictures, about 18,000 or so of 12MP and 8MP, and many video clips) I still have .8TB free. Comment:
Everyone seems to be listing their systems these days so here it goes:RAIDMAX Scorpio case | Corsair 650w | Asus p6T mobo | Intel i7 920 (Quade-core @ 2.66GHz) | ZEROtherm core 92 heatsink w/fan | G.Skill DDR3 1600 3x1GB Gaming Memory (upgrading soon) | 2x Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB 7200RPM 32mb Cache Hard drives | Asus 22x DVD burner | 2x EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 1GB DDR3 Video Cards running in SLI | all in one memory card reader | Hanns-G 25" Widescreen LCD | Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit |

Archival Storage Only
Cons: The drive has a terrible delay in reading data/directory structure. 5 seconds or so from clicking in a folder till the content displays is unacceptable in my book. I have two of these drives and they both act the same.
Pros: It is a 1.5TB drive. How many movies is that? Comment:
My guess is the density required to cram that much data into a single drive makes it pretty difficult to get the heads into the right spot. If you are using it for archival storage, the drive will probably meet your needs. If you want to use it for anything active, I would not recommend this drive. |

Failed in 3 months
Cons: Started giving me the "click of death" after only 3 months. I had recently checked the SMART info and found a lot of reallocated sectors shortly before the fail. It was still slightly functional in sporadic bursts so I was able to clone it to another seagate 1.5tb LP, but it took about 6 hours. This drive exhibited some odd behavior also, and became audibly louder after only a week, but the SMART info is ok so far. waiting on a samsung 2tb to return this one to the local shop. I should have listened to the reviews
Pros: cheap Comment:
I should have listened to the reviews! I own several Samsung drives, none of which have caused me any issues with years of heavy use. I will not purchase Seagate again. |

Works great!
Cons: They wind down when not in use
Pros: Inexpensive and Quiet Comment:
I have been surprised at all the negative comments. Bought 3 of these the end of 08 and haven't had any trouble with any of them and they get a good work-out. I haven't tried them in a Raid until this new machine and so far so good. Took one of the old ones and put it with the three I just bought to make a RAID 10. |

11 work great - 5 DOA - 1 later failed
Cons: Of the 17 (not all from Newegg), five were DOA and one went out within a few months. (this one that eventually went out was a little ify all along- initial errors but it seemed to had fixed itself). It's been my experience with HDD: if you get it and it works good, it'll probably work for quite a while. I have large HHDs (variable manufacturers) that I've used for over 10 years, including Seagate enclosure drives.
Pros: I've bought 17 of these over the past 6 moths. That in itself should tell you something about how I feel about it. I have 10 set up in two 5-bay SanDigital RAID boxes (raid-5) and one for backup (which I meanwhile use with BlacX box). They work well for me as they are affordable and pretty reliable (raid-5 backs itself up within the drives so that if one drive does fail I can hotswap a new one without loosing data). Comment:
I still have four of the DOA drives as I was too late getting back to Newegg.. now i need to research contact info for replacements from Seagate. (don't roll your eyes at me for that response - it's not as bad as "Cons: It Ain't Free")sorry i don't know know good hard specifications on this drive, just life stories. |

CC1H firmware on drive - good
Cons: none
Pros: Nice, large, fast hard drive. Comment:
Another user posted that this drive comes with a old firmware that had problems; this was a old post. My drive came with firmware version CC1H. You can check your firmware version with the Drive Detect tool at http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207957 |

No issues left
Cons: None
Pros: I bought two when they first came out, RMA'd twice and after getting the new firmware, no problems at all. Both drives are running continuously for about 8 months now without a sign of degradation. Set aside your worries, I believe all the nails has been hammered out. Comment:

Great Drive!
Cons: Not many! Runs a bit warm, but a case fan mounted in the drive bay solved that concern, it's a good idea anyway, high temps can possibly shorten the life of a hard disk in the long term.
Pros: This drive is big and it's fast, in HDD performance tests this drive far outperformed all my other drives. Including the pair of Raptor 36GB in RAID-0. I will be buying more of these. No issues whatsoever with firmware conflicts or performance issues. Comment:
I was apprehensive to buy this drive after reading about all the issues others have had, I have 14- Hard disks connected to 5 different RAID controllers, from Silicon Image, Intel ICH5, Promise, and High Point manufactures.... along with a PCI SI-0680 IDE Card to help with the 8-Pioneer DVD Burners!!! If there was a problem to be had, I was confident my configuration would surely bring it to light, however, I've had it for 6-months now without so much as a studder! "Props" to Seagate.... I believe you have gained a loyal customer... So Long... WD and your drives that have a "knack" of breaking down at the worst possible moment! |

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1500GB 1.5TB SATA2 7200RPM 32MB Cache NCQ Hard Drive OEM
Cons: Not quiet
Pros: Large storage, reasonably fast. Comment:
I purchased my drive within 1 month of release, so I got the terrible first revision. It died within 2 months. Seagate quickly replaced it under warranty after I paid around $9 to ship it to them. The latest revision drives may be better. I hope so since I'm stuck with one now. |

Good drive/small hassle
Cons: Firmware problem like all the others. It would freeze during downloads or transfers
Pros: Good drive, large size, and a decent price. Makes for a good media storage drive if you have faster/smaller drives for your primary drives. Comment:
Once you get the firmware issue fixed the drive is reliable. I use it as a secondary drive storing media files. I do not have to move the HD videos to my main drives to good good playback out of it. If not for the initial firmware problems I would give this a 4/5 rating. I knew it was related to the drive because the drive I replaced had zero issues. |

These HDs break
Cons: Is it worth any money at all when you lose 1.5TB of data? My first one of these broke in the first week, the second one died as soon as I filled it up to about 1.4TB. I was waiting for the first one to return so I'm pretty sure I've lost all my data now.Secondly, the RMA process of Seagate takes 3x as long as western digital.
Pros: Huge amount of space, great price Comment:
I bought two of these drives so I could do a Raid 1. The first drive broke in under a week. I returned it after a little while and continued to use the other harddrive while I waited for the first to return from the RMA process. I returned a Western Digital HDD the same day through their RMA process and received the replacement WD drive the same week, the Seagate took an extra 2 weeks. In that time I've filled up that second 1.5TB drive and I'm pretty sure it's broken the same way the first one did. I have a great case, with all the stabilizers and protective stuff you could have for a HDD. In summary, listen to the other 2,000 reviews - these hard drives are absolute cr4p. |
