Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 320GB SATA2 7200RPM 16MB Hard Drive OEM
Cons: Seek times seem a little slow to me, speedfan reports some seek error and hardware ECC recovered, going to keep an eye on it to see if it continues, if it does I'll RMA

Pros: Thin, nice and quiet.
Comment:
Its kinda depressing to see how different seagate is now, I've still got some old 8-20GB seagates that run rockstable with zero read errors, heck, I've seen an old 8GB seagate get dropped 3ft onto concrete and still work, don't think I would want to try it with the newer.

Cons: Seagate used to offer 5 year warranty. this has only 3 year.

Pros: It is a hard drive. these either work or they don't out of the box.Drive is faster than my older sata 1 160gbdrive is thin. quiet and easy to cool
Comment:
I have been using Seagate hard drives almost exclusively for years. With few exceptions, I have not been dissapointed.

Dell 8400 upgrade
Cons: None!

Pros: My sister-in-law's original 5+ year old Seagate 160 GB OEM drive started to get some physical errors so I replaced it with this drive. Much faster, but just as quiet as the drive it was replacing. As always, Newegg's super fast service!!!

Good HDD
Cons: Seagate recently dropped their warranty down to 3yrs. :( It used to be 5yrs on all of their products. This is the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Of course if a piece of hardware isn't DOA and it makes it past the first few months, it's not real likely that its gonna fail before you need an upgrade anyway.

Pros: -Quiet-Fast-Reliable-Lightweight
Comment:
I have used Seagate almost exclusively for a few years. I've had a couple of defective/DOA units (happens with every manufacturer) but no failures. And Seagate makes it real easy, quick and simple to get those DOA/defective units repaired/replaced.

Excellent drive!
Cons: Could have used a jumper cap to change the 3mb speed to 1.5mb speed to accommodate my older motherboard. Fortunately had a couple of those lying around.

Pros: Have always had solid performance with the Seagate hard drives that I have installed. My two older systems still have the original drives in them and working just fine. Added this to my XP system for extra storage.
Comment:
Bare drive, no SATA cable, power cable adapter or brackets. But no big deal because I have those already.

Lasted for 2 minutes
Cons: Lasted just long enough for windows to initialize the drive. Upon reboot, got click of death. Drive is still seen by the BIOS, but not under windows or windows disk management. Click-Click-Click-Click.

Pros: None
Comment:
I have a Seagate NS drive that has been flawless for years (that I got here at newegg) but the Seagate AS drives have been less than stellar. In all fairness, I must say that I have gotten dead WD drives, also.

Great primary drive
Cons: 1. There ARE much better storage drives. WD makes better 1TB drives - speed, cost, warranty, etc.2. The seagate website has been totally fooked for a month or so (lacking information, disorganized, not helpful, etc.) . I hope the change is to make great improvements but that's got to put a strain on customer service when they have to pick up the website slack on the phone.3. I would like more drive information on the seagate spec sheets. They SUCK. I know it's a 320GB drive! I'm glad to know the outer dimensions too. BUT, I'd like to know the seek times, the aerial density, the number of platters - e.g. things that distinguish (or not) them from the competition. My assumption, if they don't want to list it, is that they're not quite as good as some others - which will make me look all the harder to find something better. And it's not a secret - any competitor can unscrew their drive, test it, etc. - so share the info.

Pros: About as fast as a 10,000 rpm velociraptor but with only a fraction of the noise, weight, and cost. I have found no better primary drive.
Comment:
It's difficult to find 5yr warranty drives from Seagate - at least on Newegg. If this Seagate weren't slightly faster, I would have chosen a 5yr warranty 320GB drive from WD instead. The Seagate person told me to look for drives that ended in a "K?" -something for the longer warranty, but the information is not currently on their website and they must not be carried by Newegg

Great performance for price
Cons: None

Pros: 1. 7200 RPM, 2. 16MB cache, 3. SATA, 4. price.Replaced a dieing 250GB WD EIDE drive, installed quickly, and definitely saw the performace boost. It's a great drive for the price.
Comment:
I love NewEgg!!! everything I have ordered always arrives quickly, and have never had to RMA anything. What could be better then a company that has that kind of record. And of course, let's not forget the pricing.

Fine HDD
Cons: It won't change my baby's poopy diapers.

Pros: Works fast. Stays cool. Good design.
Comment:
I'm not loyal to any particular hdd manufacturer. I've seen drives from all go bad and I've seen antique (lol) hdds that still function. The general rule with all electronics, if you want them to last, is make sure your components stay cool.

Works ok, but problems with actual space
Cons: The drive seems to work just fine... but windows XP only recognizes 120gb instead of 320gb.

Pros: Arrived on time with no obvious defects. It was a replacement for a previous DOA hard drive I received a week prior. Installed windows XP without any problem.
Comment:
I installed a dual boot with Windows XP and Ubuntu 9.04... works great, I love Linux for web surfing. However, my issue is that the Linux OS actually will read the full 320gb hard drive while windows only reads 120gb.

Pay Attention to Firmware on These Drives!
Cons: But recently last week a new batch of drives came in an order and I checked the FW like always and noticed it was newer on all 8 drives, rev CC44. I was excited to bench them and see if they were any better but to my dismay they have an awful Random Access time of 17.7 ms! Other specs come out to be the same 92 Mb/s Avg Read and 225 Burst Speed. I have no idea what this is about but I have read about people having the same issues online. They and myself are speculating that Seagate did this to lower the noise the drive produces, either that or it is yet another FW bug. And I am sorry but nearly 18ms Random Access is pitiful. I have an old 7 year old WD IDE drive that has a 14ms RA time. Due to this I cannot recommend this drive, drive would be 5 eggs but I am giving it 3 eggs overall since I have had good luck with them reliability wise and prior to this firmware performance was good. But what is up with this FW Seagate?

Pros: I work as an IT Admin for a smallish company, I setup RAID1 for all of our HP workstations that we use. Prior to buy these drives I was getting the now discontinued Seagate 250 GB 7200.10, which was similar to the 7200.12 but had a 16 MB cache. This drive was coming with my HP workstations and I would buy a second one separately for RAID. When they discontinued it I decided to go with these 7200.12 320 GB drives as replacements due to the 16 MB cache rather than the 8 the 250 GB version has. I have deployed 50 or so of these drives and have yet to have a single failure which is good, they are also fairly quiet and were putting up respectable bench numbers in HDTach prior to a new firmware rev. I was getting drives with either CC35 or CC37 Firmware, both were very similar in HDTach, they benched as follows…Random Access: 14.1 msCPU Utilization: 0%Average Read: 91Burst Speed:223 Mb/sVery decent numbers for a $50 drive.
Comment:
System that the drives were benched in is identical and I did them all back to back multiple times. System is an HP xw4600 Workstation, 2.5 GHz Quad Core, 8 GB DDR 800, Onboard Intel RAID Controller (ICH10R) and a Basic Windows XP Image. I have always been a fan of Seagate and I have a 120 GB 7200.7 that is 5 years old still going as well as several 7200.10 drives ranging from 250 GB to 750 GB and as old as 3 years or so when they first came out. And again I also use many of them at work and have only have a few failures here and there. But recently I have been reading more and more negatives about Seagate ever since the 7200.11 fiasco.

Cons: N/A

Pros: Fast, quiet, price, free shipping, 5.9 Subscore in Vista, works well with Vista
Comment:
I bought 2 Seagate's to replace 2 older Western Digital WD2500KS that I began having problems with after a year and a half. The W/D had a Subscore of 5.8 in Vista and were noticably slower than the Seagate's.EVGA 680I in SLI, 2 GeForce 8800 GT's, Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 overclocked to 3.6GHz. Vista 64 bit. And I am very happy with this great gaming system. No need to upgrade!
