Do not buy!
Cons: This is the second of this model that I have purchased. The first I have not had any problems with. After about three weeks the second drive started to click very badly. Tried to get Seagate to do an advance replacement but they wanted $19.99. That's over 1/4 of the cost of the drive! No thank you. Just get a Western Digital. That's what I'm going to do.

Newegg came to save the day and allowed me to return the drive for a refund. I then purchased a Western Digital WD3200BJKT for $15 more than the Seagate. I don't have time to deal with making a 1:1 to a temp drive then to the new drive. So I should get the new drive in 3 days and have to return the old one in 7. Newegg rocks! |

Fast
Cons: right after i bought it they dropped the price
Pros: Super fast. Put it in my acer netbook with two gbs of ram and with a little tweaking i got it to boot in 17 seconds. it was 23 with the old hdd. No noticable drop in battery life. 320 gb Comment:

Cons: There is a noticeable rattle when the heads are seeking. Not a big deal for me, but it might annoy some people. This drive is replacing a 200G 7200.2 that was completely silent. I expected the same of this one.
Pros: Fast, lots of capacity, as easy to install as any laptop drive. Seems to give me a little more battery life, but that could be wishful thinking; it's hard to create exactly comparable usage for before and after testing. Comment:

Cons: Drive failed after 6 weeks. Drive has been powered on for a total of 145 hours since I bought it. No warning signs that it was going, just toast and my data is gone with it.

I purchased a Western Digital 3.5" for my desktop after reading so many poor reviews of the Seagate 3.5" drives, looks like I should have avoided the Seagate 2.5" drives as well.The Western Digital drive that this replaces has 2,233 hours on it and is still running fine. There's no excuse for Seageate to be this bad. I used to swear by Seagate by after this I won't buy any more - I'll have to live with the replacement Seagate gives me but from now on I'll be waiting for it to fail too. |

Cons: It's a little louder than the previous drive, but not so much as to be a problem.
Pros: I got this drive about 2 months ago to replace my 100GB 5400 RPM drive that came in my laptop a few years ago. I was wary of drive failure considering some of these reviews, but I haven't had a single problem with it. I installed Windows 7 from XP and the drive just seems so much faster than the old one. I am DONE with Seagate :(
Cons: I am done with Seagate! I bought this drive 6 weeks ago and it just died on me. I can head the drive motor trying to seek. I have to DJ on Sat & Sun and there is no way I can get a warranty replacement on time. I would select 0 eggs for this review if I could.

I'm going to add this to the stack with the two Seagate 750GB I need to RMA. I've been waiting for a friend of mine to bring over his stack of dead Seagates so we could send them in together (see a pattern here?) I am done with this brand!!! Seagate drives have become the new IBM/Hitachi Deathstar (so nick named because of their high failure rates). While working at Google, I watch Seagate 750GB and 1TBs drop like flies. Out of a couple of hundred users, not one week went by without me having to replace on of these lemons. Do yourself a favor and stop buying Seagate drive until they start putting out quality products again. |

Nothing But Trouble
Cons: Defective drive. Worked for a while, but would have been better if it was DOA because I wasted a lot of time with it.
Pros: At least I figured out the drive was defective before the return period ended. SeaTools identified the drive was defective and said to return it. Comment:
Started out with just an annoying noise that didn't seem too bad, but should have been a red flag. Some reviews complained about this drive being noisy, so I let it slide. The noise went away after a week or two, then the bad sectors started showing up. SeaTools for DOS diagnosed, but could not fix the drive, so it went back to Newegg. Newegg gave me a full refund for the drive (be sure to call them if it's a defective return because their web form didn't remove the restocking fee). I lost time trying to find the problem, however. Next time I'll run the diagnostics on the hard drive before I install a new OS just to be sure. |

Cons: DRIVE CRASHED WITHIN 2 MONTHS. I wasted a whole day putting EVERYTHING on this new drive only for it to crash. The BOOT SECTOR was bad!

Great drive for the price
Cons: Occasionaly it does click but it's so quiet I barely notice it. Doesn't bother me but may bother someone else....?
Pros: Quick seek and write time. Just did a transfer over network and was averaging about 55MB/s while drive was writing. I never achieved those speeds with a 5400 RPM drive. Drive also runs very quiet. I can barely hear it spin up, seek or write. Comment:
This drive performed so well for me that I decided to buy a second one for my second laptop drive bay. So now I am using one for boot and one for storage. Eventually I would like to buy an SSD for my boot/OS drive but they are so expensive. So I'll stick with this one. If you want a great drive for little $$$ buy this. |

I'm running Linux on it so it doesn't do that pesky Windows 7 thing where the drive constantly runs. Also, Linux I/O is much faster, I think so everything seems 10x faster than before. I'm just going to say this. The drive is excellent. As with ALL hard drives, keep it cool. Don't let it get hot. Should work for many years.
