Syba PCI-3114-4IR-01 PCI SATA Controller Card 4-PORT W/ RAID 0/1/0+1/5 Software
Cons:Slow
Pros:Cheap way to add SATA drives to older board Comment:
Using this card to add SATA drives to an old mATX board on a Linux file server. Drives are well detected but Linux sees them as IDE drives, so it is slower, but then again, I didnt need speed so I am satisfied with this card. |

Syba PCI-3114-4IR-01 PCI SATA Controller Card 4-PORT W/ RAID 0/1/0+1/5 Software
Cons:Nothing I noticed, but I never tried RAID
Pros:InexpensiveWorks in Linux Comment:
I'm just using this a inexpensive way to connect more drives to a mATX board as a Linux server. It seems to have worked out even though I have no plans to make use of the RAID feature on it. |

Syba PCI-3114-4IR-01 PCI SATA Controller Card 4-PORT W/ RAID 0/1/0+1/5 Software
Cons:No SATA2 (not a big issue.) Card RAID implemented in firmware, not hardware.
Pros:Cheap, reliable, well supported under Linux. Comment:
I have two of these in a Linux Samba server using MDADM software RAID 5. Software RAID works well with these for a SOHO server. |

Syba PCI-3114-4IR-01 PCI SATA Controller Card 4-PORT W/ RAID 0/1/0+1/5 Software
Cons:"software" raid could be better
Pros:fairly cheapworks as advertised Comment:
Its a cheap card to add more drives to a box when absolute performance is not an issue. I would not recommend using the onboard raid, but if you use linux use the in-kernel software raid device. |

Syba PCI-3114-4IR-01 PCI SATA Controller Card 4-PORT W/ RAID 0/1/0+1/5 Software
Cons:1.5 Gbit/s only.
Pros:It is easy to install and it works as it should. Comment:
The older SATA speed rating is not a big deal if you're using it in a server attached through a gigabit LAN as I am.At $37 it is a sweet deal. The installation is smooth. If you're using windows, don't bother with the install CD as Windows update has newer drivers.I have not tried the Software RAID as the storage is pooled in WHS. |

Syba PCI-3114-4IR-01 PCI SATA Controller Card 4-PORT W/ RAID 0/1/0+1/5 Software
Cons:Apparent error message on bootup
Pros:InexpensiveWorks with linux Comment:
This works as advertised. It gives you four more SATA ports on your computer. The firmware for configuring raid feels unpolished though, and it gives me an "invalid device" warning on bootup -- it doesn't like my SATA DVD drive. However, it works fine once I boot into linux, so I suspect the error is just related to it detecting devices for the BIOS to boot from. The only minor issue is that I can't get SMART data from my hard disks attached to this controller. Syba PCI-3114-4IR-01 PCI SATA Controller Card 4-PORT W/ RAID 0/1/0+1/5 Software
Cons:Non-intuitive layout of SATA connectors and no labeling on the bottom of card as to connector #. Really minor gripe.
Pros:Really economicalWell-supportedGood performance Comment:
When building a software RAID solution, these are the cheapest cards I've found. The performance is good, low CPU usage under Linux. Not sure if they support stagger-start, but I doubt it. |

I used this card to add disks to my FreeNas server, freenas recognized the card without issue and I now have four drives hanging off of it.I'm using freenas software raid not the board's raid.
