Thermaltake ST0005U HDD Docking Station
Cons:odd dust cover design that doesn't cover the entire entrance point

Pros:it works as advertiseddecent price when on sale
Comment:
I bought this USB 2.0 version over the USB 3.0 version as that version is more expensive, doesn't have an eSata port, and has much worse reviews on the web. I haven't been able to test the eSata port (haven't upgraded my PC to have one yet). However, using the USB 2.0 connection, I copied an almost full capacity 3TB WD Green hard drive to my PC, and then spent about 36 hours doing a full format on the hard drive. This thing worked the whole time, so that eliminated any concerns about it disconnecting randomly.

Price tag, E-sata, Hot Swap Not actually a con... Eject button does call for a moderate amount of force to eject the drive. While my board does have an e-sata port, it is not hot swappable. I purchased an E-sata to Sata cable and am now running this dock directly from 1 of the sata connectors on my board. Much more rapidly transfer speeds than my earlier usb dock. All e-sata cables i have employed tend to come loose with regular use. I've found by slightly bending the locking tabs on the cable, you can minimize this. General I'm extremely pleased with dock and will be acquiring an additional in the close to future.

Works as anticipated as an eSata or USB dock. It is seriously uncomplicated to plug a drive and commence making use of it. The hotswap.exe utility is quite beneficial when utilizing the eSata on a non AHCI connection. You do have to force the program to detect the drive swaps. Could have USB 3. connection. Manufacturer Response:Dear Client,For a Docking Station with a USB3. interface please see the following solution at our USA web sitehttp://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?S򕏄&ID򕚍or right here at Newegg.comhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153133&Tpk=ST0019U

Product works as advertised. Every thing is plug-n-play. No true setup necessary. Would be good to unmount drive other than hitting the energy switch on the device. Operates properly with Windows 7 Ultimate. All drives have been plug-n-play as a result far. Partition Wizard functions excellent if you want to produce several partitions on the drive prior to installing any OS'.

CompacteSATAFeels Solid The offered eSATA cable could be a small longer, but it reaches where I will need it to be so it operates for me. This is a great item. I have it hooked up via my eSATA connection and my drives perform just as if they have been internal drives. This is great for somebody who wants to have numerous difficult drives to swap but doesn't want to compromise overall performance. I need to have bought this a long time ago!

It functions. I had a minor hiccup to start off (see Cons), so I emailed Thermaltake client support. They replied inside 24 hours with the difficulty correctly identified and the option. I am delighted with their responsiveness. It didn't operate when I first plugged it in. "Plug and play" wasn't very as automatic as I hoped. But I blame Vista, not Thermaltake.

Works wonderful! This is just the thing I necessary for a affordable and ultimate BACK-UP remedy. I like how it has a eSATA connection for faster transfers! I backed up 400GB of information in 1 hour! It also accepts laptop drives. absolutely nothing eSata cable brief, really hard to eject drives (you want to pull the drive out as you press the eject button)

The old saying of you get what you pay for is true for the Thermaltake BlacX S 2.5/3.5IN SATA Hard Drive USB2.0 eSATA Docking Station. I got it on sale so the price is definitely what led me to buy this product over others. The product definitely looks nice and feels nice, but handling is a little on the poor side for me. I don't particularly like the place to put the hard drive, the connection is stuck way up into the corner of the mouth, meaning that it can be difficult to feel when your hard drive is actually connected. One other thing that I had a bad experience about was that the driver of the docking station will not install until you put in a compatible hard drive. Not a big deal but I was trying to get it to install with no hard drive inserted and it kept giving me a failed driver install.Overall the product is a nice, cheap, starter if you need a way to check your hard drive, but there are no nice surprises either.

E-Sata and USB2 (fast), two.five and three.5in assistance. Supports drive sleep. Runs regularly and reliably for impractical use (a day or a lot more of run-time at a time), hot swappable. Chords feels a bit brittle. Haven't had a dilemma with chords falling out, or anything like that, but the chords are low-cost-feeling. I get a constant 100MB/s+ by way of the e-sata 񣆌 RPM drive), and about 40mb by means of USB2, drops off to about 30 like most other people. I have this drive running for a day or two at a time and can get about 6TB of transfer- commonly non-cease without any overall performance hit.

Made of plastic, but not filmsy. USB 2. connection requires forever to format my HD. Haven't attempted the eSATA connection yet since I am nevertheless waiting for my eSATA card. On/Off switch. Supports my 2TB Samsung HD. Good and excellent docking station more than all. No cooling fan

Cons:Cheaply BuiltGeneric Power Supply - Low Quality

Pros:Convenience of Plug-In SATA BackupsSimple Connection
Comment:
A decent plug-in sata solution when on sale. Does what it says, that's about it, works fine with WD drives I have for easy back up. The wall-wart power supply looks and feels extremely cheap so I don't leave it powered up when I'm not using it.

*sigh* mine broke after a month. Just didn't work soon after a month. This issue I purchased. Please manufactuer, don't respond, I threw it away with the garbage and have considering that purchased greater usb docking units. Didn't have time to mess with warranties, required something sooner. I at least purchased mine when the cost was below 25 bones even though.....wouldn't dare pay this significantly for a single.

I enjoy this issue. I've Ghosted lots of drives with it. If you're employing a drive that works, this thing will function. The eSATA is amazing for data copying, but sadly, my DOS Ghost floppies won't recognize it unless it's hooked up USB. Definitely no fault of this device. None I copy information and drives with it. I've sometimes utilised it like a giant flash drive for fast transfers. A buddy has a single who makes use of it as a USB DVR in his satellite receiver. No complaints.

At the time, this had a wonderful promo price for a USB/SATA disk dock. Obtaining the SATA and USB cables integrated was good (of enough length, as well). Box seems effectively produced. Works effectively with Windows XP and Debian GNU/Linux. The patented eject help mechanism does not work properly (better than none, though). The really hard disk activity light failed in just two months. Thermaltake support stated that element seldom fails and wanted me to spend return shipping so they could test it - I don't feel so, Tim! A energy provide like laptops have would have been greater. I though Thermaltake was known for quality goods. Their help was responsive but, in my view, was unreasonable and unfair in the case of the failed activity light. They will pay return shipping for failures within 30 days, even though. Luckily, the unit nevertheless reads/writes inserted drives. I just hope the rest of the unit lasts for a year or so ahead of total failure.

eSata speed is good - as rapid as internal SATA drives.Hot swappable - set bios to AHCI - power down - set up new drive - recognized with out reboot. Thermaltake assistance is lacking. The BlacX I bought will only function with WD drives if you want to partition and format. I have tried brand new Seagate, Hitachi, and Samsung drives in the Blacx and they are not detected. I have to plug them into the internal SATA, partition and format -- and then - only some are recognized. Would not recognize Important SSD even soon after drive was formatted. For what i use it for, it serves the objective properly. I can install a brand new WD difficult drive and partition and format it. Any other brand is not recognized. Emailed Thermaltake and they stated to attempt another SATA drive. I still gave it three stars mainly because a majority of my drives are WD Blacks. Had I been making use of Seagate or other brand, I definately would have gave a 1 star and submitted and RMA.

Plug and play any SATA drive. Nice colours, pleasing to the eyeLengthy power cord USB cord not particularly lengthy..I assume two feet? Heck of a lot more affordable to purchase internal HDD's, plug it in, back it up or use it as an 'external'. By no means noticed any heat concerns coming from the drive or any buzzing from the energy supply. I consider it's a superb acquire and glad Thermaltake noticed!! Purchase!

Has an e-sata connection. As soon as you've applied e-sata, usb2. is painful.Speedy insert/removal of drive. Disk release mechanism bit iffy. Practical for TEMPORARILY connecting a bare drive.I often like to "long" format and chkdsk any new drives prior to throwing them in my server. This docking station functions for that.Or for a speedy test/data transfer/data recovery of a bare drive. But for something more permanent, favor a Rosewill RX-358-S enclosure.

Strong develop. Operates flawlessly with the 4 drives I've applied it on ƒ laptop, two desktop). Came with a USB cable and an eSATA cable! I knew it supported eSATA, but I was not expecting the eSATA cable - a nice unexpected surprise! The speeds of transfer are pleasantly fast - specially more than eSATA. Produced of plastic (but aren't they all?) I used one laptop SATA II drive as a test drive (I knew the drive worked, wanted to make positive the dock could study it). I backed up a desktop tough drive, formatted a yet another desktop really hard drive, and backed up to yet another laptop really hard drive Ɣ drives total). By far one of the greatest purchases I've created in current months!
