You Get What You Pay For
Cons: After having more than a dozen in service for two plus years, my biggest complaint would be the flimsy construction of the "tupperware" components. I have gone through several replacement trays due to the key cover breaking, the little plastic Johnsons that hold the HDD tray in place snapping off and the chincy LCD display fogging and/or malfunctioning. Another unit broke off the empty bay flap when it became jammed too - so much for hot-swapping during an emergency.Actual cooling ability is questionable based upon the fact that I make liberal use of additional (and large) case fans to keep my custom systems cool. Disconnecting the "mini-me" fans produced little temperature variances no greater than 0.7 degrees F. These glorified laptop fans are also dirt magnets, requiring frequent system maintenance to get all of the mung off of the fan blades.

Pros: Overall it works, but leaves much to be desired - see Cons below.
Comment:
If you are looking for a cheap and (fairly) easy method of adding a hot-swappable HDD to your system, then this may not be a bad choice for you. If you can manage to add a HDD to a computer, you can certainly handle mounting one of these too - just make sure that you have proper clearances as some motherboardboards place the RAM in close proximity to the 5.25" bays where you will mount these. On the other hand, if you are in need of several hot-swapable trays for a RAID configuration, there are much better (and more reliable) solutions that you should consider first. Specifically, some of the 3/2 or 4/3 bay solutions provide a much more robust hot-swap system with inidivual drive indicators, air intake filtering, larger fans/better cooling, sturdier power and data cable connections, etc.Essentially, you get what you pay for.

I lost money on this product...
Cons: What can I say about a product that doesn't work?I installed two of these (one for the OS and one for my data) with some Seagate drives. Powered up the computer and the BIOS sees no hard drives. Weird.I pull the OS drive and hook it up directly and leave my data drive in the cartridge. This time the BIOS sees the OS hard drive but not the data drive. Half way through the Vista startup, I get a quick BSOD before the computer reboots. The BIOS still only sees one drive this time and the computer boots up normally. Open Explorer and the drive is there. When the computer is on and I try to swap out the drives, another BSOD that locks the computer.Long and short of it is that from a cold boot, the computer will crash. If restarting, then it'll restart fine.I can still easily remove the drive and lock it up when I'm gone, but it's a pain that I can't hot swap it.

Pros: The theory behind this product is sound. It provides end users the ability to be able to swap out drives when needed, or for the security conscious like me, the ability to remove the drive and lock them up when I'm out of town on business.
Comment:
After mentioning that it only supports 1.5G (which the jumpers are set for it), Vantec pretty much gave up trying to help me out by ignoring my repeated attempts for a solution.I doubt that I will ever purchase the Vantec hard drive racks again after this experience.

Beware! Good AND Bad
Cons: The SATA connector breaks and you are S O L. It easly bends the plastic parts and you are freaking sunk! I have 4 hard drive caddies. One ONE rack unit left working. What a joke! I see they fixed it in their SATA2 model. I guess they know this design it pure junk.

Pros: There IS pros here. At first it is rock solid. Keeps heat moving. Clear LCD display (Blue for SATA and Green for ATA I think... I am color blind). I bought 5 units over several months... but BEWARE... (look at the cons..)
Comment:
The ATA and OTHER sata models are very good. Try those or make sure you have nothing near the sata connectors. Beware.

Vantec Ez Swap MRK-200ST-BK SATA Aluminum Mobile Rack Black For 3.5IN Hard Drive /W Fan & LCD
Cons: The cooling fan became extremely loud after a couple months and had difficulty cooling the disk. I've taken the device apart and cleaned it out several times, but it completely failed after 6 months stopped cooling the disk and caused it to become unresponsive due to overheating. To compound issues, I couldn't find the Key for it, so I couldn't get the disk out so I had to break the lock in order to get it out.

Pros: Easy to install. Quick Swapping. Keeps Disk Nice and Cool.
Comment:
The device is good as long as you never lose the key and you have no problem with replacing it periodically as the fan fails. For the price it should have a more dependable fan; the whole thing is useless if that fan doesn't work perfectly. I originally gave this 5 eggs, but after failing the test of time miserably I'd not recommend this item to anyone.

Vantec Ez Swap MRK-200ST-BK SATA Aluminum Mobile Rack Black For 3.5IN Hard Drive /W Fan & LCD
Cons:Cheap materialsNoisy, not for use on silent buildMay not not fit some cases

Pros:Nice looking design with LCDRemovable trayKey powered on/off switch
Comment:
This is nice looking accessory and is convenient to use, but it could be designed to make the swapping easier. Some parts are made of plastic and seem flimsy when you need to pull/remove or push/insert. Considering that this type of design doesn't expose electronic components to dust like most docking stations it is overall a good useful accessory if you do swap drives often.I was able to install it into a Antec P182. It sticks out, but the computer case door is still closable. If I push it any further in it could come in contact with the motherboard components. It's a little noisy, but I can turn it off with the key when it's not in use. This is pretty nice product and I would buy another one if I spotted it on sale.

Looks realy cool
Cons: It is long so ensure you have space in your case.

Pros: It was very easy to install. I like that it has the four pin Molex connectors. The installation was very easy. The blue light (behind handle) flashes when HDD is being accessed. This way I see which HDD is being accessed. Some complain about the plastic handle, but I have no issues with it. Just don't use Herculian strength when pulling on it. I am very happy with it.
Comment:
I have three and it enabled me to move my HDDs to the top of my case instead of the HDD being cramped at the bottom. If you want to use it as a hot swappable, at least on my P5B the SATA in the bios must be configured as AHCI. I swap (not hot) drives in/out to evaluate vista 32 and 64 bit. XP is still my main OS. It makes my case look very cool with the blue lights. I would not recomend a WD Raptor in this device, too much heat. My HDD has never gone above 102 F under heavy load.

Vantec Ez Swap MRK-200ST-BK SATA Aluminum Mobile Rack Black For 3.5IN Hard Drive /W Fan & LCD
Cons:Little bit long for some cases

Pros:Keeps HD nice and coolEasy InstallationBlue LED Display looks sharpHot swappable
Comment:
Bought these to use as hot swappable data drive enclosures and they have yet to dissapoint. These things are great. Keeps the heat way down on my Baracudas. The LED display is informative, although the usage counter is only when the drive is active, and the temp is inside the enclosure, not the actual HD. They may be a tight fit if you have a smaller case, but they look great in my Ascension Duality.

hd screw alignment
Cons: attention to detail (see other thoughts), drive latch feels cheesy but i've gotten used to it

Pros: full featured, great product, highly recommended but not perfect
Comment:
i bought this with a spare cartridge (Item#:N82E16817122106). on each cartridge there are two screws that attach a beige 64 pin rack interface. on each there is one screw protruding thru far enough to prevent the drive from seating all the way against the sata interface. the interface makes good contact and the screw holes on the bottom line up "good enough" with the drive but if you want it to be "right" just take the screw out and make it shorter with some dykes. you'll be glad you did

Vantec Ez Swap MRK-200ST-BK SATA Aluminum Mobile Rack Black For 3.5IN Hard Drive /W Fan & LCD
Cons: Housing is quite long which may not fit in some smaller cases. The front end sticks out further than I’d like which prevents my case’s front door from latching all the way but it can still "catch" enough to stay closed. The drive can’t be powered on without locking it, and you can’t lock or unlock it without the key thus meaning you can’t add/remove it at all without the key.

Pros: Keeps disk cool, monitors temperature. Configurable settings. Easy to install. Quality construction. Easily slides in and out.
Comment:
Overall I’m quite happy with this. I originally got it because my case had poor airflow offer the disks causing overheating related problems. This was an easy solution that added hot-swap as a handy side effect. The price is reasonable for what you get. I’m fully planning on owning one of these for every SATA disk I put in my case. It’s well cooled, it’s quiet, it’s removable and it keeps my hard disks out of the way of super oversized overpowered video cards.

VelociRaptor Note
Cons: Assumes standard SATA layout - VelociRaptor is not standard.

Pros: For any standard SATA drive, this is fantastic.
Comment:
This is a fantasic rack that had housed my 74 gig Raptor drive for a couple years. I got the VelociRaptor drive to upgrade, and realized I hadn't taken the non-standard configuration into account. A VelociRaptor drive will not fit in this case. The connectors in the rack are firmly attacked to the backplane, and as such you can't hook it in.

MRK-200ST-BK Works Great!
Cons: They are rather large and might be a tight fit in smaller cases. They only use the Molex connector for power.

Pros: I use these in several full tower systems using several vendors hard drives and motherboards without any problems. I use this product to share data between my Linux and Windows PC's and they work great! I have not noticed any speed decrease or data corruption using this product, even using different file systems like NTFS, Fat32, EXT3, EXT2 & ReiserFS etc...
Comment:
I do like the Blue LCD on the front of the drive cartridge. It would be nice to see it turn Red for example if there was a probable failure with the Hard Drive.

A little too big....
Cons: They are long....so long they won't fit in my case. You will need about 9" of clearance from the front of your case in order to fit these correctly in the case. As it is, they stick out the front by 1.5". I have an ATX case with 4 5.25" bays - the case is 18" deep. The problem is they hit the motherboard power supply cable or capacitors - there isn't a single 5.25" bay in my case that will allow for the unit to fit completely in the case.

Pros: They look good and work well.

Measure carefully!

Cons: Poor installation instructions. No warning that the SATA-based product would NOT have a SATA power connector. Display setup confusing.

Pros: Product has performed satisfactorily once I got it connected.
Comment:
Wish manufacturer had been more forthcoming in technical information about power connector. Had I know in advance...Power off key is nice but if power is not on at system startup, the system SATA bus will not recognize drive later.

Nice looking device...
Cons: Light weight materials. Trays slide easily in and out, but the front levers (silver parts) are light weight and need to be handled with care. The SATA connectors on the back of the unit seem to be upside down, I have little space to work with between the units and the Dell 4700 power supply so the cables that come with the unit will not work as they are a straight in connection. I bought a couple of right angle SATA cables but the have to be installed with the cable routed upward to the top of the case and then down to my RAID controller, would be nice if they were turned over.

Pros: I like the way it looks, very nice appearance in my Dell 4700 Home server. Fit easily and seems to work well. I installed two of these as a place to house my RAID 1 configuration and so far seems to fit the bill nicely.
Comment:
Just purchased an extra tray, so I can format and create a back-up drive for my RAID set.

Great piece of hardware
Cons: It would be nice if you could get it without the key, just have a switch. Did not natively hotswap. Needed to install Hotswap! program (google it), but no biggie.

Pros: Internal connection, no external wires to mess with. Very sturdy. Very easy to install drives into it. Good noise level, good cooling. SATA blows away USB 2.0.
Comment:
I use these to backup my server at work, and at home as needed to test an OS or backup etc. I tried other enclosures which fell apart within weeks during transport. These are very sturdy and have had no sign of wear/tear.

Does exactly what I wanted
Cons: For some reason, if I swap the drives around allot, eventually they will start making the overheat alarm sound, even though the temp is below the overheat alarm point. powering off-on fixes that though. just thought it was kindof odd.

Pros: This drive tray does exactly what it's suposed to do, lets you put a 3.25 hdd into a 5.25 drive bay. It swaps in and out very easily and the drive seems very well constructed. The lcd screen is pretty cool, as is the fan stop/overheat alarm.
Comment:
Very good quality, I used them because I needed to go from a 3 drive iCage from thermaltake to only using 2 drive slots to fit in a water cooling radiator, and didn't want to sacrifice drive cooling.

Not Bad
Cons: Ah, mostly nitpicky:- Manufacturing tolerances: securing HD to tray was sloppy; hard to tell when torque was right (be careful)- No cushioning on bottom of tray (just flat bare metal prob for heat xfer). Drive goes *clank* when dropping it in, esp. on table (again be careful).- Tray could be more snug. Datacenter-grade trays are more snug for those high rpm drives during a hot swap.- Man, fan is kinda loud. Maybe I can turn it down w/ the display control or hack it appropriately.- Display is not visible off-angle. Just blue.- Long. May hit mobo components in some cases.

Pros: - Cheap. Overall really nice product for home.- I like the display. Whole thing looks cool.- HD activity given by backlit handle & LCD.- Works without hassle.- Would buy again.
Comment:
Just turn the key, and the unit will activate. Always have the key around; if you lose it, buy another tray. It will have the same exact key.Bought it at a local joint; wanted to contrib. to newegg community w/ review.Mini backplane in dock encloses tray from air, so fan is mandatory. Maybe they can come out with a fanless holey version? How many of these things do I have to buy? In other words, will Vantec always make docks/trays that fit this guy?

Cons: The power does not up for all 3 units i replaced with newegg... ...Unless there is a trick, shouldn't the unit power up after connect the power is connected and sata cable is connected to MB??

Pros: none since its DOA 3 times straight!
Comment:
Newegg's shipping is still good, received the next day before 3 pm here in LA. But the product is awful. Am i the only unlucky guy?? The 3rd one's cartridge is even harder to be removed from the rack and i almost broke it... (can not pull out). Can someone give me a hint to power this awful product up??

Few points
Cons: Could really benefit from a thermal heat transfer pad similar to the product put out by the company that starts with "T." Bearing less or metal fans would be a good idea as well.

Pros: It does what is says it does. I like the look and functionality and it fits my Gigabyte case very nicely.
Comment:
I bought two and once the operating system detects the drive it works pretty well for hot swap. I think expectations might be a little high, but the aluminum really isn't too bad, I had to force it a little into my case because of bent rail tabs from the earlier *ahem* cooling product and it held up just fine. This isn't something for a real world server rack so expecting a $100 product for less than $50 doesn't make sense.

Cons: Unit is a little flimsy, but to be expected with the price. Have to press on tray front to get it to seat evenly.

Great For Multiple OSes
Cons: I only had one beef with this product. I have no idea why they went with a standard 4 pin molex power connector on the sleeve when you obviously are using a SATA drive as thats what it is designed for. Heck, the internal connection uses SATA power connection so this was a head scratcher. Also be aware that this unit is a bit long so you may have some space limitation issues, might want to look at some right angle SATA cables to go with it. Put a SATA power connection on the sleeve and you'd of had 5 eggs.

Pros: This is a great accessory if you want to get an extra rack to keep additional hard drives in. Nice solid aluminum construction with heat dissipating ability. Lets you monitor drive run time and temp and will alarm on user presets. Included cable lets you piggy back the HDD access LED indicator from motherboard to your case light to observe drive access. Also has a nice blue light on the top edge that illuminates on drive accesses. Nice ejection port cover if you are running this as a slave or secondary drive and decide to leave the tray out, tray can also be locked in place with the ability to lock with or without power to the drive.
Comment:
I Love Newegg, thanks for shipping to Okinawa!

Great case, loud
Cons: 2 problems: if you don't screw down the hard drive to the inner tray, it will easily come loose from connectors inside.the case is all metal, so if you have a louder drive it can rattle a little and amplify the noise. i use a 74gb Raptor thats kind of loud normally, but now its more noticeable.

Pros: Its easy to install and use. Allows you to hotswap drives with no problems. you can either have a fixed drive in there or even open the case and switch the drives.
Comment:
Great drive rack. i use it since my internal slots only have 4 hard drive bays, and i need another for my main drive. It keeps the drive cool and is easy to switch if i need to.
