I started using WD Green 2tb drives as soon as they came out, and now own four of them. All are working well.However, in some cases, such as multiple partitions in XP, or with backup software, you need to run an alignment tool before you can get better performance. Besides, these drives usually cost more than their competitors' of the same capacity. |

Excellent quality for the price. An awesome, reliable 2 TB drive. I use it to store all my media files and I have never had a Western Digital drive fail on me yet, and I've had a lot of drives fail. If you need a large capacity hard drive it is absolutely worth it to spring a few extra bucks for a WD drive. |

The unit I bought 6 months earlier had a 3-year warranty. The unit I just bought only has a 2-year warranty. In fact, the warranty is less than 2-years because it began 23 days before I purchased the drive. This makes me suspicious that WDC has quality control issues and therefore limiting the warranty. |

As a drive for backing up data, this is pretty good. By customizing the power options on your system to power this drive down in 10min or less, you will maximize its lifetime (since it only has a 1 year warranty).You can format it with a larger block size to increase file transfer speed, but will need to pack small files together or they will eat up more space. You can always use 0% compression (7Zip, WinRar) to wrap files into a single archive very quickly.Head parking issues can be overcome with software. |

I have two of these drives. One is still chugging along while the other failed last month. I spent a couple of weeks using TestDisk getting as much off it as possible (Windows could only see the boot or reserved section). Then I started the RMA process with WD. 15 days after they supposedly shipped the drive, it is still not here. I chose the 'advanced RMA' (they charge me money then ship the drive)thinking that it would speed things up. The RMA rep told me that 'turnaround was 3-5 days'. WD uses UPS, they say the drive is held up in customs and the 3-5 day turnaround is only for the U.S. My advice? Pay the extra for NCIX's express exchange. I won't be looking at WD again unless I pay the extra for this convenience. (Just so you know, WD's RMA/warranty people are off-shore. I don't mind that but you do have to put up with less than perfect English and misunderstandings. It's the same with Dell, by the way. Not a knock, just letting you know what to look for.) |

I had 4 linux partitions go corrupt... all of which were drives connected to the motherboard and not to my pci card. I recovered them fine but don't want to try that again so I ordered another pci card to plug them into.anyway, no drive failures yet. |

This thing is a marvel! Reasonably fast (around 100 MB/s when sequential), quiet and power efficient. Bought it to backup my Caviar Black RAID0 and I am EXTREMELY happy with it. Been a customer of WD since 3 years now and their drives are SOLID!I even had one dropped on the ground and it is still working just fine!Would buy more if I need to.Just as a side note: NEVER use it in a RAID array. Its power-saving features will likely lead to it being dropped out of the array. It takes some time to wake up from "sleep"... You're better off with a Red or a Caviar Black. |

For its current price point this drive is worth it. It's been 4 months and its still alive so I don't have anything to complain about so far. The only downside is that it is a 5400 rpm drive as opposed to similarly priced 7200 rpm ones. I suppose if it's a storage drive I won't notice much of a difference anyways but it will just kinda defeat the bang for buck.I went with this drive because I've always gone with WD drives and I have yet to have one fail me. :) |

They are however the CHEAPEST, MOST RELIABLE CHEAP drive out there. Unlike some brands who will sell you a 5400rpm drive for this, or the various drawbacks from externals, this drive is inexpensive, not annoying in its "green" power management (or needing to have it shut off) and its fast, I get good speed in my 6gb/sec Sata3 port, and overall think its great that for this price, reasonably fast transfer rates despite a lower RPM (RPM is not everything apparently) and its a Western Digital (and not lower on quality) for the price. |
I use one of these as a storage drive in my desktop. For my purposes this drive performs great, as it is used exclusively for storage and not for gaming. The drive represents great value but the trade-off: it's really slow. If you are not installing games off of this drive you will be okay.
