Western Digital brand, Generally dependable. Price good for size and attributes. I purchased this in August 2010 and today it died. Click of death. Lucky it was an external backup. Difficulty is I bought two and the other is inside my iMac. Now I'll have to replace that also. WD has Always had difficulties with the "off" sizes of drives 鼮G, 1.5TB). It didn't even last a year. Am I the only one who finds this lack of good quality manage unacceptable, or is it the norm now for hard drive manufacturers to just put out a high percentage of defective item and to hell with the customer? Keep in mind way back when WD solutions had been usually trusted?

Rapidly high capacity drive, big cache and five year warranty. Outstanding Western Digital support. 2eggs for this faulty drive. 5 eggs for Newegg & WD support. Replacing 18 month old "full" WD Black 640GB drive. Install as further drive and rapid format. Data transfers k/sec ! Carry out full format overnight. Passed. Transfer rate now ㅛMB/sec. Restore information from House Server overnight. Next day try BU and fails due to new HD Failure. Next run WD diagnostic tools testing. 1st Smart passes, fails swift test, start out full test. Subsequent day completes full test as FAIL. Smart now reports fail right after reboot. Thankfully WDs RMA is as painless as can be AND they advance ship replacement so it is faster than dealing with the egg. In summary just a faulty drive, I'm sure WD will make excellent on this and I'll end up with yet another Great drive. I own more than a dozen WD drives in all my machines so one is bound to fail.

Quiet and vibration no cost Performance no better than the caviar blue drive it replaced. I replaced a 640gb WD caviar blue drive with 16mb cache (WD6400AAKS), with this drive on a windows 7 machine (Gateway DX4320). I utilised the WD disk wizard software to clone the current drive. I compared benchmarks on both drives. Windows Experience Index was five.9 for both drives. HD tune gave the caviar black about ten percent much better benchmarks. The caviar black had 12.3ms access time vs 13.four for the caviar blue. The caviar black was 96.7MB/sec average transfer rate, the caviar blue was 80.3 MB/sec typical transfer rate. It's a Western Digital and it operates, so far. None Installed it, enabled it, formatted it and all is well. I have noticed it goes to sleep from time to time and it takes a few to wake up when you summon a file.

When it worked, it had great capacity, fairly quick. Died after three months of use. (S.M.A.R.T warning of impending doom) Replacement drive shipped by Western Digital was DOA re-certified. If I decide to waste another ŭ.50 to ship it back once more, I won't trust the factor. Never had a hard drive failure, never had a DOA prior to. My ƒ) 1TB Caviar Blacks run fine, but it could be a very good thought to steer clear of the 1.5TB. I'm completed with WD not worth the hassle or aggravation.

Lots of storage, a ton of cache, it works. Replaced an old 160GB WD Blue with this one and am quite content with the speed and reliability. My motherboard only supports 3Gb SATA so the cache assists to counter the limitations. Makes a small noise (old drive produced none), but it's inside acceptable levels. Installed all my games, transferred all my files, and I nonetheless have a lot of space.

Affordable, quick, reasonably quiet, lots of space for HD videos, games, and so on. I tested it with WD Lifeguard the minute I took it out the box and it ran for 1.five hours with errors. installed Windows 7 and designed 3 other partitions on it for storage. Loads Sims 3 twice as rapidly and installs applications extremely speedily. (I'm not used to this rapidly of a drive) Don't be mislead by everybody with bad drives. You'll have lemons out of the bunch and will have distribution centers that don't package as properly as other people. Test it thoroughly when it arrives to save the hassle later. I believe I'm 1 of the a lot of lucky ones to have one that arrived perfectly.

Rapidly drives. Replaced four older SATA I 7200RPM drives with two of these partitioned approx 50኎. Much less heat and noise than prior mix of Seagate and WD drives. None so far. Worth the upgrade price.
