1TB massive storage, just what I wanted. Abysmally slow, takes too extended to commence up and locate files. I wouldn't reccommend this drive for anything other than backing up files. It's too slow to function for programs and HD stuff.

Use this drive as media storage for my very old desktop. Share the drive on my network and have had no problems with it. Easy to use right out of the box and is a very quiet drive with a sleek design. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a quality build.

Functions good. I've been employing it to back up data from numerous computers so it hasn't seen heavy use but its quiet and stable. The real test for a challenging drive comes with age so we'll see how it does more than the following years. It has a flashing white light that is a bit annoying but this is very easily fixed by creating confident its out of sight.

Cons:Only USB 2.0

Pros:Made by WD, 1TB capacity, runs quiet

Made by Western Digital so it is quality build. The case is simplistic, only one small LED on the back.Wish I could have found a drive with eSata for faster transfer speeds. Decent price for the make and size.

Newegg is great, fast shipping fantastic price. The drive on the other hand is terrible. I have advised a couple of of these drives to my shoppers, and I bought one too. Of 3 drives, 2 failed. 1 was DOA 鸴GB two.five") the other ƑTB three.five") worked for the initially connection just fine, then moved to an additional laptop or computer (the wrapping is still on it!) And it does not spin and is not recognized by the computer. But hey the light blinks steadly. Not worth its weight in Elephant dung. - runs cool, and quite quiet - takes a though to spin up I used this with my airport express to network access to my media files and although it does the job, it takes a bit for the drive to spin up immediately after just sitting there for a even though, which makes browsing it annoying.Plex and XBMC don\'t forget what they found on it just before anyway, so soon after it was set up, this was just a mild annoyance.

Mobile TB of data is an amazing concept. I like that it's speedy sufficient for my demands (although I wish I had the patience for when the USB 3. drop). These are just due to the fact of my own private preferences so no eggs come off.1. 2.four lbs is the drive all by itself. 2. The weight just adds to the desperate need i have for a belt because i wear "Utility Pants" and just about every pocket has one thing of excellent use as a tool. I like WD. Only ever had 1 issue with their hardware and that was more than a decade ago. I have a residence server with 2 green tb drives and i've in no way had any issues with them.

Straightforward as heck to use, plug and go, no software program or anything. Plugged it in, and it took a couple seconds for my pc to see it, then I had 931 gigs of cost-free space on it. The 931 Gigs was the issue. If you appear at the properties, the drive is a full terabyte, so there's about 100 Gigs missing in action. I know file systems can miss a certain percentage or whatever, but I've had WD drives prior to, and I'm thinking hidden partition. Overall, just what I was hoping for. My half terabyte WD drive was crammed like sardines in a tin, so I necessary something new. Went with this trigger the price and reviews had been great. Had it less than 12 hours, but unless the drive fails, I can't see any difficulties with it popping up.

Overall this is a excellent external drive, with just a couple of issues. It looks excellent on my desk, no flashing lights in my face and its not glossy adequate to show fingerprints or dust. This drive may be a bit slow, but thats fine since it is a back up drive that I can just set and forget. If you are going to back up 1tb with Windows 7 Backup, forget about it. It will take ages utilizing the built in software, this is a known issue with the program. I would recommend making use of an additional program, or just backing up the required files. An earlier comment stated that is employed a proprietary connector, but it does not. It makes use of the same mini-usb connector that cameras and other external drives use.

Cheap, compact, runs smoothly. No energy switch (more of my preference). The large thing here is that this item does not have a fan, and is enclosed in plastic (an insulator). I anticipate that if everyone had been to leave this drive on continually it would overheat fairly speedily.

Quick, massive storage volume, and durable. Wonderful price too. Installation. It took me thirty minutes to get Windows 7 to recognize the drive. I had to keep unplugging and switch ports. I also unplugged it from my energy surge strip and plugged it into the wall directly. Ubuntu 10.10 recognized as soon as I plugged it in, so I assume Windows was the problem.

Got this for Christmas in 2009 and its been in service ever due to the fact with zero complications. Personal computer discovered it promptly formatted to NTSF and it was up and operating inside minutes. Runs quite cool compared to the two 500gb WD Function Books I had (one two yr. old model crapped out) and is fairly quiet. None genuinely if you keep what you're buying in perspective. Its not rapidly or flashy, but so far has been dependable. Fanless enclosure makes me nervous. Hot drives are not pleased drives, but this 1 appears to run comfortably cool. I acquired this unit so that I could retire 1 of two WD Function Book 500gb drives and store it at a separate location. About the time I plugged this in 1 of the 500gb units (newer of the two) began having concerns (computer didn't often recognize it, clicking sound, case was generally hot) and within a month it was dead. Thankfully, I had two total copies to work from. The second 500gb unit took a dump about a month ago, but mounting it in a Nexstar case has brought it back to life (first one wouldn't even spin up). The WD WB 1tb model makes use of a diverse power supply and runs significantly cooler than the older 500gb models. BTW - I've now gone to a two-drive RAID 1 to gain the further redundancy.

This is a fantastic external difficult drive for storing large amounts of data. It works just like a difficult drive need to. I commonly get around 30 - 35mb/s transfer rate, which is pretty very good for a usb connection. The enclosure is sleek and sturdy, and sits nicely on a desk. Great for storage, not for portability. If you plan on moving this tough drive about a lot, it can grow to be a hassle, but that's what you get a portable tough drive for.
