Western Digital Elements 1TB 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive
Comment:
thought it was very good this drive died within 2 weeks. Received a replacement from WD and right after I realized thru a information recovery specialist I lost data for excellent, I tried to send them both back for a refund. Newegg says its past the 30 days so I cant get a refund. Nicely no s.hit! and WD doesnt do refunds.....The drive was 3 weeks old when it crashes and I'm given time to get my data to the new drive so tell me how I was supposed to get all that carried out in 30 days??So I'm stuck with a drive that I dont have faith is gonna last...If you want 1 of these low-cost let me know, you can get mine if you believe WD is a superior product.... The last time I acquire a WD product. |

Comment:
Straightforward. Just a little black box with three holes on the back. works properly proper off the bat, and fairly quiet. Wise data mentioned that it was in pristine condition on arrival. This drive is SLOW. got about 13-20 MB/s write speeds. Also, the included USB cable is a bit short. Other than that, it seems to function great. This drive would be virtually perfect for external storage for a media center PC or for a DVR, as it has no obtrusive blinking lights on the front, and it's basic style would fit perfectly with most other Television equipment. I was satisfied. |

Western Digital Elements 1TB 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive
Cons:No power switch.
Pros:Built quality, size. Comment:
This external HD is pretty good. I got it in the weekly special and it was pretty cheap for 1TB external hard drive. The built quality is goodé. Since it's USB2, the speed is limited by this connector. Finally, I wish the enclosure had a power switch at the back so you can turn it off if it's not in use. |

Comment:
The drive is fine, it's clearly not a sexy piece of hardware. Still it's quiet, the light is not bright, and footprint is not large. The casing is a black matte plastic and is understated. I have no issues with the appear. The performance is great too, it transfers rapidly and seems stable so far. None so far. HDs are a fairly solid technology by now. I got a superior deal on this and bought it. Also, I trust Western Digital as a brand. |

Excellent back up drive. Going powerful soon after 10 months. None Please folks, stop complaining about the "lost GB" following formatting a tough drive. Tough drive producers measure utilizing 1000 MB per GB (base 10), but the actual conversion is 1024 MB per GB, since it's based on base 2. ƒⓂ) The size reported by your pc is based on the right 1024 MB/GB number. Each challenging drive manufacturer does this! A simplier way to convert is your disk will format to 7% much less than advertised for 1TB and below and about 9% less for 1.5 TB and aboveBy the way, most flash memory is the right actual capacity (a 512 MB flash drive has 512 MB of memory). |

Cons:Failed full format. No off button -- always on.
Pros:Name brand. Comment:
There were bad sectors on the drive and it couldn't complete a format. It also made small clicking noises.I also don't like the design that turns on when plugged in. It's always on unless you unplug it. |

Cons:
Has it own power supplyStatus light on the rear
Pros: It worksQuiet Comment:
I bought this to use as a backup drive for my new PC. Seems to work fine and it is very quiet. The unit has a combined power and disk activity light on the rear of the unit, which could be a pro or a con depending on if you like to see status lights or not. It also needs its own power supply. A good drive so far. |

Western Digital Elements 1TB 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive
Cons:
physical size
Pros: Size, stability. Works out of box. Comment:
This drive was purchased with PM to a very reasonable price. It's intent was to add an increase in file capacity to a laptop, while adding portability to the files themselves. It was cheaper than most other drives, and has a good amount of space. Music and movies will take a long time to fill this guy up.Physically, it is rather large. You can tell that it is a 3.5 HDD and not 2.5 HDD inside. But it does keep cool, and comes with an included power adapter, which is convenient and not always included with other enclosures that I have purchased. |

Pros: Looks greatPriceWestern Digital Comment:
Best bang for your buck, WD really makes quality hard drive with great RMA service. Seagate would be close but with their epic failure barracuda firmware in 2009, I'm sticking to WD and loving it. |

Pros: Simple Design, Quiet Enough, Quality Wires Comment:
Own 6 of these in varying sizes. Have never had an issue with any. I don't leave them on all the time. The feet on the unit are great and give slight breathing room. I've stacked these and not had an issue. The wires provided are a good length and thickness. |

Western Digital Elements 1TB 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive
Cons:
No power buttonA bit on the slow side
Pros: Holds a lotdoes not give off any real heat when writing for a very long time.Has a hard drive activity Led Comment:
I got this for my WDTV Live so I would not be having to turn on my computer everytime I wanted to watch a movie or something. It works really good, has more then enough room for me right now and does not get very hot. I was writing to it for over 3 hours and I never felt any heat from it.It is a bit slow however as I seen when writing over move files. But it is USB 2.0 and was tranfering over a network. This slow down in speed does NOT effect it for playing movies on the WDTV Live.I would like to see a power button however. Yes it does know how to turn it self of when the WDTV Live is off. But it still nice to have.I can't hear it either which is a plus as well.I would buy a 2nd one if needed. |

I bought this so I could play movies directly from my TV. The Tv detected it with out a hitch and 1TB is more than enough for movies especially if you aren't using 1080p files.Very good value for the price. |

Pros: great price for a 1TB external HDD Comment:
I bought this when it was on sale for $75. I also own a "My Book" series drive which is $40 more for the same size. This unit is quieter compare to my other one but I found the performance was slower with this one for some reason. |

a nice external device thats allthere really is to it. it does the joband does it well. go get one |
When it worked, it worked properly sufficient. Easy to install and use. I liked the overall appear of it. I only got to use it once before it died on me. On the day I got it, it functioned well and I was able to put a superior 20 or so gigs into it. The next day when I went to use it the HDD wouldn't spin. I would plug the factor in, the light on the front would flash briefly, and that was it. I didn't drop, shake it, or even so considerably as give the thing a dirty look the day just before. It just decided to quit working. The only reason I am giving this two eggs is due to the fact I opted for a refund instead of a replacement. It isn't really fair to only give 1 egg when I didn't get a replacement to compare my experience to. It is entirely possible that I just got a poor 1. Still, I'm not impressed that it worked 1 day and not the next. If I had been to get one more external, I would most likely look at a various series at least.
