Device performs wonderful on any Tv from SD to 1080P. Streaming films in SD, 720, 1080 perform fine and I can't uncover a format it can't deal with. None When streaming using network shares (SMB) 1080p can't hold up (Something with the protocol I think). Use a UPNP server instead and it will play with no skips or loss of audio through playback.

-Plays just about any media file format.-Is small and effortless to arrange near your tv.-Doesn't pull nearly as considerably existing as, say, a PS3 just to play Netflix films (I don't feel guilty leaving it on).-Straightforward way to transfer files from your Computer and play them on the Tv.-Particularly user friendly.-Great quality playback. -It gets pretty hot (so be careful where you put it)-It requires a little bit to get started up (which is why I retain mine on...it has a standby-like mode so I'm not worried about my electric bill) Prior to I got my WD media player I was trying to figure out some inventive way to either stream media by way of my PS3 (like with PS3 Media Player and other computer software) but I under no circumstances located a good, simple way to do it. I was tired of possessing to walk a flash drive from my Pc to the PS3 just to load and play what I wanted. I got a compatible network adapter to plug into my WD media player and it has been a dream come correct. I now have a 1TB external drive attached to the player next to my Tv. I can move files back and forth wirelessly from my Computer so that now I have an archive of media to play from. It's amazing! I would very recommend this item to any individual looking for a excellent organizational answer to your media center.

This thing could play a turkey sandwich if it had some photos stuffed into it. 1080p output, dts + whatever formats you can feel of. WD is active in placing out updates but beware of the additional current ones since they introduced a performance challenge for networked mkv playback. This can be fixed employing B-RAD's custom software (google it). I'm going to purchase two far more for the other rooms. This is a uncomplicated to use, stable and killer device. Toss your media Computer. The only con is WD's update that introduced the mkv playback hiccups. It only happens for high bitrate encodes and perhaps tied to some other video settings.. not completely characterized yet. Once more - B-Rad's software fixes it..quite cool Unless you are hanging a USB drive off of it then assure you have a quick NAS - QNAP or Synology. My DLINK can't get it up quickly enough. I'm installing a second (faster) NAS and relegating the DLINK to a back-up zombie.

THE Cost. Straightforward to use. Supports a big amount of formats. Has however to dissapoint me. none I've genuinely thrown a lot of challenges at this and it's been great. I have it hooked up to my 42 inch 1080 HD tv utilizing HDMI and am watching attractive MKV files. The menu structure is beautiful and simple to use. I had no difficulty at all hooking up to my network and was watching iphone videos in HD in no time.I Enjoy how it can hook into any Tv. I can very easily take this WD box and a tricky drive on the road and have my whole HD film collection with me.I’m most encouraged by its updating method. New attributes look to come with some updates which I like in a product. It keeps it alive extended after its purchase date.I STRONGLY suggest this box.

-Plays just about every media format.-Plenty of connections (Composite, Element, HDMI)-Online Streaming Apps (Netflix, Pandora, MediaFly, Accuweather)-Decent and simple remote. -Slow to boot up.-Occasional crash or freeze when streaming Netflix.-Some trouble selecting up networked media shares. Outstanding little media device - some thing that can be employed on any tv new or old. The pros far outweigh the cons for me. You can not uncover something significantly greater than this for the identical value. Extremely suggested!

Does play a lot of media varietiesConnects on the net for netflix and such.It is smaller and quiet. I moved my DVD's to a HDD and the DVD menus didn't work. Directions stated it requires Video_TS folders which I had but still no menus which I wanted. It just started playing from the starting. Element video cable and Composite cable was 1Ǟ" jack into three RCA's not really a challenge just questioning the good quality.

Netflix, ISO, mkv, and so forth and so on. Great media player which will play pretty substantially w/e you throw at it. I switched my Xtreamer video player to my children room as they have a Wii for Netflix currently and use this WD Television Reside+ for Netflix and all of my media playing requirements. Want I could develop preferred folder view on root menu, but other than that it kicks bu**.

The pro's can be listed merely by reading the particulars. I've owned this unit for four months now and I nonetheless get giddy working with it. Want to stream those backups that you have in .ISO format to your HDTV in complete 1080? No challenge. H.264, no problem. DivX, no issue. And so on. And so forth. Firmware updates are typically, problems are usually fixed inside 1Ӯ weeks. Hmm, probably this isn't a con necessarily. To the customers attempting to use their ɮGB drives with this unit. How did you format that ɮGB unit? Win XP I'm willing to bet, simply because Win XP utilizes 4k logical sectors, whereas Vista and Win 7 use 512 byte. Now, let's take a look at what OS's this unit explicitly states that it is compatible with:"Windows Vista, Windows 7"So I can only assume you have a Vista and/or Win 7 machine in which you can use to format that ɮGB drive (and load up with media) given that, following all, this unit is not compatible with Win XP. (Besides, Win XP currently has had an announced ceasing of support by Microsoft to my knowledge, you're two versions behind, time to upgrade?)As to the users complaining of the wireless.. wireless is unless below excellent situations.. hit or miss. Why would any individual use wireless to stream HD is beyond me, but to each their own I suppose. Make certain you have no cordless phones, microwaves running, fluorescent lights, and so on.. Then perhaps youll have excellent situations to run wif

Perhaps a different firmware upgrade will add apps? I am pondering about attempting the b-rad firmware, appears like it will open this guy up to all the possibilities... if it does I will purchase an additional for the bedroom Television...

I wanted to get WD Tv Plus for a very extended time. it is the most significant part of my set up. The fact that it plays almost all avalable formats in beautiful high quality is basically astounding. I nevertheless have WD Television 1st generation and it's working quite very good, nonetheless it doesn't have ethernet port and doesn't decote DTS sound, but the new one does. Newegg is the greatest, got it in two days. Doesn't have wifi, but you can always get the USB one for ~ โ.

Neflix functions wonderful. No buffering difficulties through movie play.Self updating with newest firmware... My devices was down various releases when I pluged it in and it took a while to get it to the most current release... It was down 6 releases and it updated 6 occasions. Extremely cool not needing to use laptop or computer to update the firmware.I have not encountered bugs with the current firmware.Have not had to reboot the device like other reviewers.Lots of NETFLIX films with no a difficulty. None. I did not hardwire the media player to my wireless router. I employed TRENDnet TEW-687GA IEEE 802.11b/g/n Ethernet Port Wireless Gaming Adapter for network connectivity.

Does what I expected it to do - streams netflix and pandora to my living space, along with my personal music and motion pictures shared from the pc in my den. When you break it down and examine the expense of utilizing this with a wireless network ( e.g. getting to get a wireless USB NIC for it), I realized I'm only a hundred bucks off the price tag of a "popular gaming 360 console device" ...if you know what I imply. Further, in spite of having checked WD's compatibility lists to get a very good USB NIC, the one particular I picked was not at all compatible due to hardware revisions with the NIC manufacturer. If it's no longer compatible, take it off your list, WD! In brief, I am not unhappy with this unit. It could be priced far better, imo. The manufacturer does appear to push updates out frequently sufficient to keep the product relevant in the market. Also, I've had no reliability matters. Great device, general. I just wish it either had wireless built in, or was a little superior value considering that most clients will have to buy wireless units to add on to it.

It's tiny. Incredibly small. Remote control range is surprisingly fantastic- will bounce off ceilings and walls. Plays files smoothly over wired network, response to play/pause/ff/rew is quick. Plays virtually all media files. I let it do an auto-update, even although I've read lots of issues with them, and in 5 minutes, it was ready to go, with very a couple of updated widgets, have not seen a dilemma with the update. Youtube plays incredibly well. Accuweather is handy but extremely basic. It plays USB, network, and streaming music in the background although you view pics or appear at other points. Composite video performs properly. Didn't play a handful of video files I've been emailed, mostly WMV and a couple AVI files. Wish it had Hulu. Some of the widgets to other sites I discover fully useless. Menu navigation is not magnificent, but it functions. If streaming music in the background, it's not intuitive on how to get back to the music screen. Most reviews of other media players compare them to this device and say the WDTV Live is superior, so after cautious research, I purchased it. I have not been disappointed- it does what it says it does, and does it well. And frankly, it does a heck of a lot for such an cheap, tiny device. 1 note- to get file sharing to perform with my Windows 2000, I googled and had to enable the guest account, and then it worked correct away. And Newegg shipped it fast and accurately, as generally!

Straightforward menu technique, comes with standard cables, modest design, wonderful for the kids room, and excellent price! A number of USB ports for external difficult drives, and also has the ability to connect to a media server, or a network share. Never ever could get component to operate correctly, but I'm going to switch it to HDMI here soon anyways.

Works well adequate, 1080P on Netflix looks good, they have common updates to add features, and fixes most of the bugs others have complained about. It's very good to see they have supported this lengthy properly. A lot of the Netflix issues complained about is a wireless concern, over Cat5 these go away. Hulu would be cool, but alas. For the value it is solid, cool tiny device.

- Plays nearly something- Connects to samba shares on a FreeNAS server- Small- Low-cost - Doesn't play ogg theora video Initially it refused to see any of my network shares (even right after updating the firmware to most current version), though it could connect to the web just fine. For some cause, I had to go to settings and reset it to factory defaults. Then I had to enter all the network configuration stuff again, but this time it saw the shares. Aside from its inability to play ogg theora-encoded movies, this is the only downside I've encountered.I was relieved that it had no issues accessing my Linux and FreeNAS-based samba shares (after the reset, that is...).

Plays each xvid/divx/mpeg/avi i have attempted. The pandora and netflix streaming is ideal as properly. Slow boot. Vivid front lights. Can only be turned on from the remote. Right after a swift (rare) power outage, the unit comes on. Most electronics I have utilized in the previous stay off by default, even after power is restored.

Constructed in networking, operates good for Netflix and Pandora. Some of the The WDTV Reside Plus HD units have audio problems. (I wouldn't know any precise metrics, but I suspect the majority of the units play audio just fine.) No matter what I do, I can not get audio on my units to work as it must. Mpeg4 encoded files have audio / video sync problems. Audio output seems to be restricted to PCM, regardless of how the audio stream is encoded inside the Mpeg4. Its the luck of the draw genuinely whether or not you get a unit totally performs or not. I have tried waiting for release immediately after release of firmware (all of which claimed to have fixed audio), to no avail.I am on my second unit from WD, and am obtaining no diverse outcomes. All in all, very disappointed with the unit. I tried briefly to mess with aftermarket firmware, with no superior sync final results.

Like this issue, plays all my movies. I have it hooked up to my Onkyo HT RC260 through HDMI and every thing looks and sounds excellent. I opted to get this player rather of yet another HTPC and I am glad I saved the income. I at present have a 2TB external tricky drive hooked up to it and all is effectively. I have played MKV, M2TS, MPEG4 and AVI with no troubles at all. Also, this issue is tiny, most wouldnt even notice it. Takes up almost no space at all when the box measures 4'x4' or anything about there. Possessing a bit of difficulty hooking this up to my wireless network. I am working with the WD powerline adapter given that I heard the wifi USB adapters can cause serious stuttering. Still cant get it on the network although. Not confident if it is the powerline adapter or this media player that is causing my complications. If you are seeking for a great media player that will play HD content without having stuttering appear no additional. I got this instead of an HTPC and am pleased with my selection.

Has lots of on the net video alternatives, youtube, netflix, and so forth. I ditched my media center Computer for this and haven't looked back. No USB 3.. I'm positive that will come later ! Retain your firmware updated. Plug in the ethernet and you can examine online for the most up-to-date firmware. With every release, it typically adds new functions, such as on the net content material.

Seems to be operating perfectly, except the networking capacity. Have been unsuccessful in networking to my principal machine. That could be due to a Powerline/Lan adapter although. Not certain however. A few times it's observed my network, and the shared folders, but it doesn't see the media files in the shared folder. I don't like taking one particular egg due to the fact of this, but networking shouldn't be so challenging. Plus it's slow about acknowledging USB drives, and their contents. Based on content material I suppose :p It's read all files except a single old Divx file I have. It did read it, but it stuttered. I've played M2TS/Bd files with it too. Flawless :DNetflix function is what I was seriously following, and it operates perfectly! Probably firmware updates will remedy the Network situation.

Plays most movies, musics and photographs without having complications. No problem streaming BD motion pictures from the pc. Interface is relatively effortless to stick to. Effortless setup. Does not assistance Netflix for Canada. If you leave your player On for days, for some purpose the sound will develop into too loud and distorded. Required to turn Off and On to fix that. Now I can play my music from my computer to my home sound process. I am thinking of buying another 1 with the wireless adapter to stream to another Television in the property.
