Does specifically what it is advertised to do. Be Green! Save income and the future when you're at it. Be conscious of what you're acquiring! This is surely a storage drive---it runs at 5000RPM, but 7200RPM or higher. You will not get good boot speeds off this drive.

Worked fine for 9 months! Big, rapidly sequential reads/writes. Great storage drive! Quiet! Apart from on seeks, it is unhearable in a quiet-enthusiast atmosphere (antec p183 case, non-stock air cooling with ducting mods). The seeks had been not obnoxious either (mostly percussive without having considerably pitch to them). Three year warranty a lot appreciated -- see below. Drive died immediately after about 9 months of light backup use (maybe 3tb writes, 15tb reads total). It was used internally with no physical shocks/jostling whatsoever. Funny, commonly drives die on me in either a couple weeks (or arrive dead) or else they final eight years just before they go out. I will be RMAing this to WD. Another overview will be forthcoming. (Will it be one particular star or four? Let's see how the return method goes.)

Worked fine when it worked. The HDD failed after about 10 months, wasn't able to recover the drive. I have an older WD drive that is 5 or 6 years old and operating excellent nevertheless. I have only utilised WD in the previous, but with this current failure I'm going to try other brands.

It's 1.5 TB See Other Thoughts I have a different Western Digital that I had in two partitions (C: and D:) and the transfer among C and D have been fine, fast, and so forth, almost everything was excellent. This EARS drive has the very same setup, but it begins out rapidly and rapidly drops to 20~ megabytes/s where it will sit, creating a 3GB move/copy go from ten minutes to 2 hours transfer time.Nonetheless, in between the EARS and EADS(my other WD drive), it's fine. It appears to cap at the EADS speed. I've googled about and the create speed on EARS may well be the concern.

Been running these for over two months now with out difficulties. None whatsoever. I have four of these drives attached to a 3ware 9500S-4LP controller in a RAID5 array. So far, I'm possessing completely no problems with them. You do have to disable LCC if you do want to raid 'em. It parks the head immediately after eight seconds (which is kinda dumb) but with WDIDLE3 you can disable or adjust it.Still a strong performing set otherwise. I don't know why some individuals are obtaining troubles with them.

- 1.36 of the 1.five TB space accessible for storage. Tons of storage!- Streams movies and Television shows fine. No challenges. I havent attempted gaming from it but.- Affordable. Most likely the most space for the lowest value you'll come across. The drive can be a little slow. I have it set up as a straightforward partition. -Sometimes when I open it up or browse it will freeze for a handful of seconds prior to loading.-Transfer speeds are not great, ㅖmb/s at times much better occasionally worse. Computer Stats: AMD Phenom II x4 945 Deneb three.0ghz, 8gb of DDR3 Corsair, ATI Radeon 5770 1gb, principal drive is a 1tb. This comes as a storage for my tv shows and music. So far it has worked properly. I am a tiny timid to try out gaming on it.If you are hunting for a big storage drive then this will function good for you. If you want a drive for installing games or cumbersome applications, I would go with a 7200RPM drive or more rapidly.

Cheapest at the time I bought. 2ቬ񳏊 Purchased two together for a RAID 1. 1 of the HD would time out, and had to rebuild the RAID various occasions. About three weeks ago AMD RAIDXpert flagged a bunch of warning, and then it died. Called WD for RMA. WD mentioned it only has 1yr warr. I told WD that Newegg listed a 3yr warr. WD checked into it and said "Your correct. I have to have RMA dept. appropriate this. Contact back tomorrow." I known as back and WD says "That drive is refurbished. No warr." I told WD that I have receipts displaying its new with 3yr warr." I have sent in my receipts and now awaiting WD responce. So right here's the WARNING. EITHER WD IS ALL MESSED UP, OR NEWEGG IS Selling REFURBISHED DRIVES AS NEW ONES !!!!Possibly is greatest to steer clear of WD.

Quiet, low energy consumption. By far the poorest good quality item ever by WD based on private experience. I had other HDs for years devoid of a prob. But when ordered 2 of these, a single arrived half dead and ended up dead in 1 week. The other one particular ended up dying in a month. WD RMA response was commendable and the replacement drive is operating fantastic so far, but I nevertheless have to give a low mark for each drive failures. Due to the fact each drive expense me Ű bucks for shipping, the drive did not give any price tag benefit more than other types. It's safer to go for black or blue labels.

Price Unreliable and SLOWWWWWWW! Bought this drive new, initially it seemed to work fine, but after about 800-900GB place on it and a couple of months usage, it started causing Windows bootup to take three or four minutes whenever this drive was connected. In Windows Device Manager this drive keeps receiving installed as PIO MODE four (no DMA) alternatively of UDMA six, so that explains the lousy speed overall performance. If I set it manually to use DMA, it switches to UDMA six mode, but at next boot cycle it's back to PIO Mode 4 and no DMA. HD Tune Pro shows the transfer price at a pathetic 2.5MB/sec. Writing a backup of 1 of my other drives to this thing (a 250GB drive) estimates at more than 7 hours for the backup!!!I'm going to attempt a full re-format and see what happens, otherwise this issue is finding junked.

Price. Greeness. WD reputation. Utter, catastrophic, random failure. WD was my HD manufacturer of selection just before and soon after my GF purchased two of these green drives. I raid 'd them, pondering in the back of my thoughts 'haven't I heard anything about WD green drives'? Didn't place any essential information on them, just games. Inside weeks one of them had failed. Just died. It was around 1 month old. The 'green' format appears to not perform with some critical windows processes at times. When? Your guess is excellent as anyones. WD tends to make a lot of excellent drives. The green line is - thus far - not aspect of WD's high quality reputation.

It will perform for a while the unit itself. I have purchased two of these over the last year. The 1st that I purchased final april, lasted until December, when a corrupted MFT file made the whole dirve inaccessible without having the obtain of computer software to copy the information to a new drive. The newest 1 I've bought, only in January, died on me over the weekend already and, as opposed to the initially, is not accessible at all. Even with years of expertise with computers and a bachelors in personal computer programming, I could not get this second a single to recover something. Remain away from this paticular model. I nevertheless, to an extent, have faith in Western Digital. My current create has a two TB green and a 500 gig blue (that is split into two partitions, one for the os). I have had these hard drives installed for 16 and 18 months, with no problems from either.

Worked fine for almost a year. It appears to be broke. Two nights ago it just quit in the middle of the night, so now the computer doesn't know it's there. Freezer trick doesn't enable. A small warning would have been useful, but there was none, and I'll in all probability by no means see that data again.

1. Excellent price tag2. Lower power consumption3. 1.5TB space offers you a lot of area for these torrents...er...document files. It wasn't free? I see that some individuals who purchased this drive had it fail on them...but I believe that is common for ANY hdd you purchase. Occasionally you get lemons. This is true no matter WHAT hdd manufacturer you go with.

Finally got an RMA. Took over a week of back and forth with WD to get the correct warranty status. I can't keep in mind the last time I had a WD HD. I've had mainly Conner, Maxtor. or Seagate, and I think I'll keep it that way. Lesson discovered.

Have had two running in my Property Theater Pc for over a year. For most applications, the hard drive is not the limiting element in speed. The drives are quiet - you can't hear my laptop at all from 4' away. Its a bit slow to spin back up to speed, and my information drive goes to sleep often. I could change Windows settings to alter that, but I'd rather have it shutdown when not in use. I'm organizing to get far more and use them in Raid 5 array.

I am not going to argue about the value or the size of the drive. If i had adequate cash for a different i'd absolutely get 1 even although i doubt i'd even come close to filling this one particular in the subsequent few years. None at all. I study several of the other reveiws that have been posted about this drive and i would have to disagree with it getting as well slow to be a major drive for an OS.Each issue seems to load up way quicker than my ten year old Dell with XP on it. Files load correct up. I doubt i'll be capable to inform the distinction involving the load occasions of this really hard drive and 1 of a higher RPM.

I bought this as a scratch drive, exactly where I can retain some video and photography work. It has been working like a charm. I put it in a Rosewell case and formatted it exFat so that I can use it with each my Mac and my Pc. Currently I am transferring files from my WD500GB external and it is handling the transfer quickly and quietly. Also It will spin down if I don't use it within five or so minutes, possibly a green feature, but it spins up nice and rapidly when I begin accessing it once again. In brief:- Swift and quiet- A lot of room for files- Functions excellent for any OS- It's Western Digital- Was not also pricey for 1.five tb -Not truly 1.five tb, as with all HDDs they aren't labeled the way computers see them. But that's something we can't modify.

simple RMA flow... i guess they require to have a very good RMA department. they fail... a lot bought 8 of these about a year ago. foolishly built a RAID out of eight identical drives, but WD had generally been solid and so i thought not much of it (i have 4 older WD15EADS in one more array and they are still going strong).rapidly forward to today; 5 out of 8 of the disks have failed, establishing many uncorrectable sectors. strangely not a single of the disks ever remapped any sectors. of course they are warranted for 5 years, but what i get back from WD are "remanufactured" drives, which are most likely disks that had been returned as failures. i am not feeling very good about my fileserver now.oh, 1 other point: shortly after creating the array i purchased 2 far more identical disks from an additional supply. the serial numbers indicate they were constructed in a distinct factory, and in reality they have A single much less sector than the newegg ones. so under no circumstances make your partitions as major as the disk!
