Western Digital WD20EADS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons: none.

Pros: CHEAP, reliable!!
Comment:
I am very happy with this drive! - I bought the first one just over a month ago, primarily for backups. Namely, I have 2 WD Passport portable drives on which I store all my family photos and videos. So I wanted to have a dedicated drive for backups only. This fit the bill quite well. More than enough space for all the photos and videos now and in the future. The new camera I bought is 14 MP so all the files are rather large, and the same goes for HD videos. I recently bought one more of these for my sister. Can recommend it to anyone!

Western Digital WD20EADS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons: Low RPM (articles seem to indicate 5400 RPM), not the fastest drive out there.

Pros: Great price for the size.
Comment:
If you need backup / bulk storage it's a great value, esp. when it's on sale. No issues so far, although it seems slower to get out of Green mode compared to the 1TB version of this same drive I have.

Western Digital WD20EADS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons: A little on the slow sideHead parking may annoy you

Pros: 2TB CapacityVery quietLow vibrationEnergy efficientCheap cheap cheap
Comment:
This is simply the best storage drive you can get, well this or the WD20EARS (the WD20EADS has less cache, but plays better with XP). Compared to modern 7200rpm drives, the Greens are a bit slower booting up, loading programs, installing/uninstalling programs, and transferring files, but the difference is small enough that I think most people wouldn't notice.Because it's 5400rpm, it uses less power, vibrates a lot less, and is incredibly quiet, even when seeking. The only annoying thing is its head parks after 8 seconds of idle just like a notebook drive and makes an audible click when doing so. A lot of people have made a big deal about this like it will cause the drive to fail quicker but there's no evidence of that.

Cons: Nothing really

Pros: Tons of spacePrice
Comment:
Using this as a weekly off-site backup drive. I had to buy this version instead of the EARS model because Acronis does not support "Advanced Format" just yet.Runs slow, but that is to be expected from a Green line hard drive. Can get quite toasty at times, if you use this in any form of hot-swap bay, be careful when removing it!

Western Digital WD20EADS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons: runs 5 to 10 degrees Celsius warmer than the equivalent EARS model.

Pros: Capacity, price
Comment:
I bought this drive for my older computer that uses windows xp. The capacity size is great and was just what I was looking for in a drive. I used the Western Digital tool called WDIDLE3 to disable head parking to increase the lifespan. It was on sale here at Ncix so that made my choice even better. I did notice that it runs 5 to 10 degrees Celsius warmer than the equivalent EARS model, but other than that it runs great. This review was modfied by poster @ 08-02-10 07:42 PM

Cons: Low RPM drive.Slow spin up time.

Pros: Low RPM drive.Low cost per gigabyte. Not advance format.
Comment:
Opted to buy this instead of the EARS because this doesn't have the advance format thingy that is not really usable for computers still on Windows XP.My one big complain is that this drive seems to spin up from idle slower than my last WD Green drive. Takes like 5 seconds before you can start accessing files compared to 2-3 seconds.

Western Digital WD20EADS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons: None so far....

Pros: Decent price, large size.
Comment:
Just picked up one of these to replace a 1TB drive as our backup drive(in a Vantec USB/eSATA external enclosure), and at this point, it seems like a good buy. This drive, although it's slower than others, is perfectly suited to use as a large backup drive. I backed-up the various boot & storage drives in two desktop computers, and one laptop, all on this one drive, and all these tasks were performed as quickly as two other 7200 RPM SATA drives. This drive seemed quite toasty when formatted while in a Thermaltake BlacX dock, but when installed in the above mentioned Vantec enclosure, it wasn't any hotter(probably cooler, actually) than the previously installed 1TB Hitachi drive.... I suppose it was the aluminum case, that dissipates heat, that kept it from getting too hot.I'd like to say this drive is quiet as well, but in all honesty, when doing the backups mentioned, there were a few fans running, due to a recent hot spell, so I can't really give an objective opinion on the noise this drive produces. Suffice it to say, that when I leaned in close to the drive to see how loud it was, I couldn't really hear it, so I suspect it's no noisier than any other drives on the market. If you need a large amount of storage on one drive, this seems to be an excellent choice, especially when it's on sale.

Pricematched this to a very reasonable $/GB. Quiet reliable drive that is compatible with some of the WinXP systems that I still have running. Been happy with the 1TB and 1.5TB Green drives and gave this one a spin.

Western Digital WD20EADS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons: None that I know of yet

Pros: QuietHD Space!Compatible with NAS's as no AFT!
Comment:
I purchased this from ncix last week as I had previously gotten the WD20EARS drive from memex in Calgary soon to realize that my DNS 323 NAS will eventually fail or degrade with the new AFT (Advanced format technology) drives. I returned it and was only able to find the EAD drive from Ncix. Put it into the enclosure, formatted fine, and was up and running with pretty decent speeds in no time!

Western Digital WD20EADS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons: 1st one i bought was having intermittent i/o errors, had to be RMAed.

Pros: Size, price, size
Comment:
I bought this drive and because of moving I had to wait two weeks to install it. It was giving me i/o errors in linux and would intermittently remount as read only. I have dual boot so booted into Windows 7 and ran the WD Tools and no errors on quick and long test. So I fought with the thing for two weeks thinking maybe bios, drivers, cables, port, I don't like to RMA something unless I can prove it is the product. So I was able to prove out that it was the drive. Turned out that I was over the 30 days for NCIX RMA, 3 days over :(My own fault though. The upside is that WD RMA was very good and WD tools finally gave me proper errors for it. I think it was getting worse as I used it. So WD cross shipped a replacement drive which seems to be working much better, although the money I saved on the sale price was negated by my having to pay for shipping of original drive to WD.I am giving it a 3* satisfactory only because WD got me a replacement quickly.

I use two of these in a DNS-323 in a raid 1 setup for storage and backup. They work great for this, I don't think they are rally meant for heavy traffic or demanding speed. For the price on sale and what it is meant for it gets 5 stars.

Great drive
Comment:
I bought three of these and have put them into a Raid 5. It dropped the power consumption on my system vs 2 seagate 1tb drives by a large amount and reduced the heat output by 4c. A great drive, I have not had one fail on me yet, running nearly continuous for a year.
