Disappointed -- Slow Photos, Expensive Prints
Cons: PITIFULLY SLOW when printing hi-res color photos (in enhanced mode 1.6 ppm, photo mode 1 ppm), our Oki C5100n does 8 ppm on fine mode (photo), for a workgroup printer the print speed for photos is simply unacceptable, it is common for us to print 60 to 100 pages of photos at one time, it ties the printer up for one hour straight; EXPENSIVE prints (contrary to the claims by Xerox about the life of the solid ink sticks), it costs about 1.5 times the cost of our Oki C5100n, it should be noted though that we print a lot of full color docs, particularly photos as noted above; DUPLEXER FAILED after two weeks but Xerox tech was on-site within four hours of the call to Xerox, turned out the nvram simply needed to be dumped so the printer could recognize the duplexer, would have been nice if telephone support would have had the knowledge to have me dump the nvram myself (simple procedure on the printer control panel)

Pros: incredibly fast prints in "fast color" (draft) mode, very good print quality, vibrant colors, holds a ream of paper standard, comes with one year on-site service (parts and labor)
Comment:
our company bought the 8560dn to replace an aging Oki C5100n, we narrowed it down to the Oki C6050dn and the 8560dn, as tech mgr I recommended the Xerox, I regret that recommendation; the print quality of the 8560 is only marginally better than the Oki (and the Oki is FIVE YEARS OLD); while the speed of the Xerox in draft mode is three times as fast as the Oki, the speed at higher quality settings is unacceptably slow, when we first printed photos we thought something must be wrong, sent the same file to the Oki and it was done astonishingly faster; it is also more expensive to operate than the Oki, we thought it would be cheaper or perhaps about the same price, as the Oki requires replacement of four image drums every 30K prints or so at about 80 bucks each, even with this additional expense the Oki comes out as the cost per page winner; the first Xerox printer we purchased will probably be our last

Expensive to operate, maintain and unreliable
Cons: Too expensive and unreliable. Not an original Xerox product. This is our second solid ink printer in 3 years. I had to buy this as a replacement for my 8400 after that broke and was not worth the money to fix. Between parts and labor it would have cost around $700 to repair for the second time since we owned it, and I bought the new 8560 for around $1000. We own a photography and graphics design firm and we wanted to use this as a soft-proof printer for publishing and printing contact sheets. We loved the quality and speed of the solid ink printing, however we were not prepared for the extremely high maintenance cost. When this printer breaks, it breaks expensive. Including the purchase price, ink, repair bills and maintenance kits, we have spent about $5000 on these two printers in just under three years. We print about 1 ream of paper a month, so we're not talking high volumes here. As far as I'm concerned, there are much more cost effective printers out there.

Pros: Great image quality and speed. When not in the shop, a real charmer.
Comment:
The part that needs replacement on my current 8560 is the electronics control module, which is basically the computer inside the printer. The part is $400. After the $200 in labor to actually diagnose the printer, I am now of the opinion that we are done with Xerox for now.If you can't stop yourself from buying, try looking up the cost of the following parts that can and often do fail: Print head, imaging drum and electronics control module. At one point in time all of these parts have failed on my printers and none of them are less than $400. I have never had a phaser that lasted for more than 1.5 years, so if you must buy get a service contract as the manufacturers warranty is only 1 year (though this will run you $200 a year).

Good printer...until something goes wrong
Cons: Horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE color and other problems when using 3rd-party ink. Unserviceable if something does go wrong. We switched to 3rd-party ink to save some money (it's half the price of Xerox OEM ink)--not only did it produce horrible colors (greyed blues, muddy yellows, dirty reds) but after a while we started having light stripes problems that will not go away even though the 3rd-party ink has been removed/replaced with Xerox OEM ink and should be out of the system by now. Also, this printer is unserviceable if something goes wrong, even by tech-savvy people, and Xerox won't even talk to you if you're out of warranty and haven't purchased an extended service contract. It's also rather loud (don't put it near anyone who's on the phone a lot) and wastes ink in warm-up/cleaning cycles if you don't print often enough.

Pros: Good color (not photo quality, but very good for marketing materials with embedded photos and graphics), easy setup (printing from multiple computers running both Mac OS and Windows), good network utility, fast printing, duplexing works well, never really jams
Comment:
The 3rd-party ink problem has become a huge issue--when we realized that the problems we were experiencing (bad colors and light stripes) were being caused by the 3rd-party ink, we removed the unused sticks, but couldn't remove the ink sticks that had already been partially melted. Hundreds of pages, innumerable light stripes and cleaning cycles, and several (expensive!) Xerox OEM ink sticks later, we still have problems with light stripes (clogged/not working jets). Since the printer is out of warranty and doesn't have an extended service contract, Xerox won't pay the slightest bit of attention. And the machine was clearly not meant to be serviced by someone with some general tech expertise and a manual in hand. In fact, it seems to be well-nigh impossible. The only suggestion we can find is to REPLACE the PRINTHEAD assembly--at a cost that's more than the printer itself (clearly not an option)! Wish we'd gone with laser technology...

I like it.
Cons: Can't laminate the prints. The solid ink will re-melt and bleed if you try to laminate.

Pros: This is our 2nd solid ink printer. We had a lazer (xerox) in between but I really like the look of the solid ink better. It give a more glossy look. Looks like a brocheure print not like it was made on a desktop printer.

I'm going to use non-oem ink from inktechnologies.com will really make this the most economical full color printer.

Fantastic printers!
Cons: Genuine ink is pricey compared to generic, but it's worth it to stay with genuine Xerox ink. If you use these in a small area, or close to your head, you can smell the ink melting a little...which may bother some people.

Pros: Fast, high volume printer that produces output with very vibrant colors (as long as you use Xerox ink).
Comment:
We've been through about 6 Phaser 8400s since we loved them so much for printing brochures and marketing materials. Just upgraded to the 8650s, and I'm very happy with them. The new ones are faster, and will hopefully have less mechanical quirks. The solid ink technology is great, as long as you don't need to write on top of the printout...most ball-point or gel pen ink will NOT stick to the wax ink of the printout.

Cons: Stopped working.

Pros: Started working very well - good print quality until it decided to start sending error messages. Xerox only supports people who buy from local dealers, so beware of buying from anyone else.

Headaches with the rebate. Otherwise fine
Cons: Xerox ink is a bit pricey. I'm trying another brand which will save enough to justify buying a new printer after a year or two. It is a no-brainer decision to use brand-x wax ink.A bit loud, but not annoyingly so.Secondary feeder on front doesn't seem to work, even when selected.Wax ink, I'm told, can't be laminated. Hasn't been an issue for me.

Pros: Good quality for photos, but not quite photo quality. I'm happy. Fast printing after warm up.Spits out pages amazingly fast after the warm upDouble sided printing is delightful. I make brochures and I'm thrilled with the quality.
Comment:
I would like the option of choosing three hole paper or plain paper. It looks like I'll need to spend another $370 for the extra paper tray. I think it will be worth the extra money, and I'm glad I didn't have to buy it all at once.I leave it on all the time. Ink usage seems moderate to lower than expected. I'm debating using this as my only printer and selling my old, but reliable HP 4Plus--I don't think I'll buy any new toner for that printer. I haven't tried heavier card stock. I think it will feed fine. Envelope feeder doesn't seem worth the effort. I plan to buy a labeler which will cover the last base in my home office.

Home Run Hit
Cons: Does make lots of funny noises.Cleaning/warm up cycle takes time and then it spits out paper like firing a bullet. Can't laminate without melting the wax.

Pros: Works great with Apple computers. Bought for home & home office use. I have a teenager and expect to print with it daily. It replaced a Dell inkjet printer that would not work with Apple computers. One day with the Phaser and it knocked my socks off. I am very pleased with my decision. Not quite photo quality, but I only notice it when I look very close. I picked super high quality images for test prints--and felt I should frame the output--it is that good. I'd like to try making my own calendars next.Duplexer is great and will save paper--reducing costs slightly.500 sheet feeder means I can drop one whole ream without needing a place to store partial reams. I was tempted to buy second 500 sheet feeder--but it works out to be cheaper to buy that separately. Maybe later.
Comment:
Easy configuration.I never thought I'd give up my B/W laser printer, but now I find myself thinking how much I'd like to send letters with embedded photo's, just like email. I have no solid experience with its print costs, but if it works well with brand X wax ink I will It makes me wonder what the archive time will be for such documents.I haven't tried heavy stock, for calendars--if it takes it well, I be even happier.I called Xerox tech support before purchasing. Was told memory was DDR laptop memory, and that it needed to go in, in pairs. I think the tech made that up. I only saw one memory board in there. Should be easy to swap--but this means shutting it off--and using up wax in the cleaning restart process. Xerox prices for memory is close to the cost of the printer. Cost for hard drive kit was $700. There is an IDE connector under the back cover. Xerox tells me a kit is needed to put in a hard drive. I bet a flash or 2.5" drive could be plugged in eas

Outstanding Quality and Value
Cons: None

Pros: Outstanding quality, inexpensive prints. As with all Xerox solid ink printers, gone is any concern over how the paper will detract from the printing. You get magazine cover quality printing even if you use newspaper as the medium. Great quality, fast, versatile.

Solid Ink Print Quality
Cons: QUALITY!! Do not be fooled, this printer does NOT have the same print quality of as a good color laser printer (hp4005). The resolution is definitely lower and noticeably pixilated at times. Gradients and solids do not look as good on this printer. Text is not especially good either! This printer is NOT as well built when compared to a good quality color laser in it's price band. HP makes a superb, solid color laser in the mid range price band.

Pros: Much simpler mechanical structure than a color laser; less to go wrong, less to replace. Consistent color. Fast first page out when warmed up. It is not especially noisy for the kind of machine that it is.
Comment:
There are way to many reviews raving about solid ink print quality being "excellent". This IS a solid ink, wax based printer. If you need fast, cheap, consistent color this is the machine for you. If you are picky about about the output - stay away.

Amazing printer!
Cons: long warmup time. unlike others, the noise level doesn't bother me. especially not when it works so well

Pros: does everything as advertised. amazing workhorse. 30 ppm is great. nothing really bad to say.you can get aftermarket inks at half the price if you go to suppliesguys.com
Comment:
This printer is a dream machine. it won me many complex printing jobs including a tri-fold full color brochure on glossy paper. recently I was moving and dropped this precious unit on a concrete floor. parts went every where. I was sick! yesterday I patched it together and plugged it in. held my breath and turned it on expecting nothing or at the very least, grinding noises and a puff of smoke. instead, it went through the auto setup, cleaning and warmup. then printed a test page. Next, I ran off several documents at different settings. It looks like heck but it works like new. my highest recommendation to XEROX. for this design.

Very Satisfied
Cons: Takes a few minutes to warmup from a cold start. Printer dialogs a bit slow on networked workstations, but reasonable.

Pros: Solid ink, much less expensive than the mechanical toner cartridges. Full printer control over network. Very fast first page out when warmed up, literally just a few seconds. Duplex printing is a big plus.
Comment:
As far as economics go, the concept is solid, as is the ink. The quality is good. Replaced an HP4600 with this printer and are very satisfied. Much smaller foot print, duplexes, much more economical and less expensive cost of ownership!

Very cost effective color printer
Cons: We print large documents so ordered aftermarket memory to take it to the max. (On the plus side, it read it right away and had no issues with it.)

Pros: Very fast setup. Downloaded the latest setup files from Xerox; did not use the disk supplied. Ink has printed more pages per ink block than I expected. Total cost per color page appears to be extremely low based on 7,000 pages at this point. We were concerned that clients would object to the "look" of the solid ink (it is a little different than laser), but they appreciate the option for color in the document and overall quality of text and pics. The auto-duplex has worked flawlessly.
Comment:
Ordered the second tray separately and even with the cost of the add'l memory saved $80 as opposed to ordering the DT. Also have ordered third-party solid ink blocks and am anxious to see if the print quality stays the same. When I calculate total cost per page with this less expensive ink, it makes me think "what's the catch?" So far, none. Give it four stars because we have only had it for a month.

Poor craftsmanship
Cons: I have had this printer since May, the print head has been stuck to the cleaning blade 4 times so far. Xerox support has been out each time to repair the product. The Tech indicates that they do not have a definative solution for correcting this problem. The Tech indicates that his model seems to have this particular problem quite often. Xerox refuses to do anything other than send out the technician. Once it is out of warranty the price of a new print head will cost more than the original price of the printer.

Pros: Good print quality at a fast speed even in duplex mode.
Comment:
With this type of quality coming out of Xerox, I will think good and hard about buying another of their products.

Great Printer with a few issues
Cons: Clearly designed with businesses in mind, so trying to make it work with 4"x6" photo paper (or other off standard paper sizes) is not a whole lot of fun. Stick with 8.5"x11" to save headache and lots of wasted photo paper. After a power outage, the printer has to be 'on the network' before the computers booted. In reverse order, the printer is 'found' but won't accept jobs.Sometimes (power out or physical movement) the printer sees a paper jam where none exists -- turn off and back on takes care of this.

Pros: Fast printing once it is warmed up, and that depends on where in the cycle your job happens to arrive. It goes 'hot' randomly during the day to keep the ink flowing.Quality is wonderful (text & graphics) and the best thing is the ability to default to a draft mode for most work, but select high quality for photos or business letters. Default duplex is particularly nice for avoiding an extra print for a line or two of a web page. A rough rule of thumb is a penny for ink and a penny for paper, so duplex is a major cost saving. Very easy setup and a neat little pop-up that tells you that the job finished (in a distant part of the house).
Comment:
A definite buy, but forget using those 'odd size' packs of photo paper unless you have a huge amount of patience. Plain paper at high quality setting looks great to me.I'm trying 'off brand' ink, but not enough throughput yet to form any conclusions. The dry ink leaves a very pleasing (to me) middle ground between the high gloss of some color printers and the flat printing of others.

Cons: It has to "wake up" when coming out of standby, but I can wait a few minutes. I NEVER turn it off to prevent the heads from cooling down and clogging. This printer must be used consistently... don't let it sit for weeks of inactivity them come print a single page! It's designed for high volume use, if you're not doing that kind of printing, get a laser! It sometimes wakes up and cleans and grunts at odd hours, but I don't mind because I know it's taking care of itself for my benefit... could be a problem if in/near a bedroom. DON'T MOVE IT w/o cool-down for 30 mins. Download firmware updates, had problems printing some pdfs, but now everything works flawlessly.

Pros: This thing is awesome for volume FAST cheap double-sided color printing. I've saved lots and LOTS of money using this have have done extensive research to find the printer I needed. Appears to beat out laser for cost per page see others for ink suggestions. I networked it so all computers in home office can use it cable free. It fits a whole ream of paper in the tray out of the package! It has a good footprint and I like the layout and design. Not one paperjam yet. LOVE the duplexer, use it often w/ reports that look like books. It prints covers nicely and in color. I like the finish of the solid ink on the page, looks professional.
Comment:
I saw a few minor streaks after several months of printing and got worried. Then I ran the check/clean cycle and it cleared everything up! All jets still working. If I can get just ONE year of use out of this, then it has paid for itself in saving! I'm confident it'll last longer (approaching 10 mos. now). I use Media Science ink to save lots of $$, and have had no problems. Be sure to print daily or every few days minimum and never turn off and you're fine. Apparently, it clogs faster with MS ink but I don't know because I've saved about $1,000 so far not using Xerox (that'll replace the printer, and I don't mind waiting if MS has to replace it for me). I "baked a page once to test it and recommend not using this printer if your prints will be exposed to excessive heat as the ink bleeds with high heat.

awesome printer
Cons: it's sometimes distractingly loud.it sets up incredibly easy, less than 10 minutes to remove it from the box and print a test page. pay attention to what you're doing and it won't print everything in its memory when there's a power outage. on powerup, it only prints 1 page to clean the head.

Pros: very fast, love the networking feature. I can sit on my porch or anyplace in my house and print. cheap on ink if you go to the Inkjet Superstore. they sell solid inks for less than half the price of xerox inks

XEROX Phaser series 8560DN Up to 30 ppm Solid Ink Workgroup Color Printer
Cons: On the other hand there is the con’s. One would be the noise of the printer makes. To me it’s a bit louder then I would like, but I have it in the same room where I work; so maybe that’s why.

Pros: For me one of the Pro’s with this printer is the speed it prints. I have just finished a 400-page color book-printing job and it was done very very faster, it seems to take more time to load the paper in the tray then it took to print. The other would be the ink, they (Xerox) says that its more operator friendly to use rather then the laser ink, and you know…. it is!
Comment:
The price, if you watch new-egg they run special deals al the time and I picked this baby up about $xxx lower the list price and that was with free shipping. So keep an eye on the egg for price changes.

XEROX Phaser series 8560DN Up to 30 ppm Solid Ink Workgroup Color Printer
Cons: a little dithering is noticeable, so its not photo quality, but it is very close. had a power surge that reset in my home, which reset the printer and made it unusable until i reinstalled the drivers. the printer also reset when the print queue was flooded with PDFs, I probably filled the memory.

Pros: Way faster than an ink jet. I did a price comparison on ink...while the xerox solid ink is expensive, it is still cheaper than inkjets in the long run, you can also get cheaper ink from other companies. easy to setup
Comment:
the networking features are nice, but actual documentation for these features is a bit lacking. this printer will introduce some network vulnerabilities, but nothing a competent IT department/person cant mitigate with proper setup

Comments on earlier models
Cons: The wax/ink has issues with temperatures above 100 degrees. Ink will be wasted if you power cycle the printer or if you have a significant jam issue.

Pros: Good quality, reliability, economical and versital. Color printing at a fraction of the cost of laser color (per copy). No mess, little wasteage. Duplex works well as does the single envelope (manual) feed. A long lived device. Pictures are not photographic quality, but good enough for insurance purposes, etc. Xerox support is also first rate.
Comment:
I have worked with two of the predecessor models 8250 (6 years), 8550 (1.5 years). Both are still working just fine. The web interface is easy to use and makes maintenance easy to deal with. For the maintenance kit replenishment, you are better off with the lower volume one unless you are using this for a office with 10 or more people.
