Tiny, low power wants. Works out of the box on Win7. XBMC runs smooth, finds all the suitable drivers. Not as rapidly as hoped. A small sluggish with mutiple apps open. Backplanewas a bit off in Antec ISK 300. Board, case or backplane?Demands a quiet fan to maintain temps down to acceptable levels. Nevertheless looking for the perfect fanless, modest combo for HTPC ... hoping but this wasn't it.

Compact size, great performance for an Atom board, good video connections. Can play 1080p without having any issue when using hardware acceleration. Gets HOT when run fanless, so it's not the dream silent HTPC board Asus makes it out to be. I can confirm that the Mushkin 2x2GB memory kit with Newegg Item# N82E16820226019 functions with this board.

Stays cool, performs as anticipated.Substantial heat-sink is attractive... Doesn't precisely really feel faster than its predecessor although time will inform.MoBo seems rushed to industry based on these other critiques and some missing components eg. items that will be included in the 'deluxe'.SO-DIMMs are a bit funky to set up but seem to work just fine :) Doesn't marry well with Antec ISK 100 but this appears to be Antec's fault and not Asus. The backplane does not align appropriately meaning some rigging had to be completed to steer clear of a gaping hole in the back. Cooling fan had to be rotated so that power cable could reach.I can confirm a working 4GB memory config using Kingston KVR800D3S8S6ǘG :http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139220

Modest low energy, may be capable. Even if you choose memory from the qualified list you may get a motherboard with an old bios which signifies you nevertheless have to install compatible ram to update the bios. It would be nice if the manufacturer would specify what is compatible with with each bios level, and possibly recall stale stock to update the bios.

Enormous heatsink, advanced processor, from the other Brief evaluations I have located on-line this board requires only around 30W idle and about 40W(ish) complete load, but those had been not quite extensive critiques due to the fact this board is so new. Adore the ease of obtaining all the drivers for this issue on ASUS's web site. This board technical specs on newegg's AND the makers website do NOT list this board as possessing a DVI-D port! This is important simply because most graphics cards have a DVI-I port which is Substantially more highly compatible, the reality that it has DVI-D only cost me another hundred dollars to get a converter! (no I could not just upgrade my monitor, it was a 輪 transflective monitor for my carputer set up, and was even custom fiberglass molded into my dash) The show port issue coupled with this board getting Highly picky about RAM and the initial foray with regardless of whether it had built in wifi or not (which was ultimately changed on solution specs) leaves me with a two star rating just mainly because of how dismal it was of ASUS to list this board so inaccurately.Possibly subsequent time they will spend five minutes truth checking. I didnt give it a 1 star since i'm confident it works brilliantly, but to me its at a expense additional than HALF the worth of this board itself...

Tons of capabilities, tiny tiny package, capable of being an great desktop or HTPC. Extremely picky about memory. So picky in fact that I returned it to newegg. Soon after attempting to get it to perform for two hours, I gave up pondering the mobo was DOA. I sent it back and got a replacement, when it arrived, nonetheless no POST. Then I figured the memory was to blame, so I ordered Kingston ValueRAM 2GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Laptop Memory Model KVR1066D3S7ǘG (N82E16820134693). When it arrived, nevertheless no POST. The Kingston RAM is suitable off the QVL (except they tested the 1GB sticks and I was attempting to use the 2GB sticks..but that genuinely should not matter as the motherboard supposedly supports 2GB sticks) Anyway, lengthy story brief, I gave up on this motherboard. WAY Too PICKY ABOUT ITS RAM. Beware, you _have_ to use QVL RAM Appears fantastic on paper, but provides you a heck of allot of difficulty attempting to come across compatible RAM.

Good capabilities, typically ASUS excellent. Just to confirm, (I meant to place this in my preceding critique) this model does not incorporate the constructed-in wifi, only the Deluxe version of this motherboard does. Study my other critique, as well as the one particular by the other fellow speaking about RAM difficulties... Just know that your RAM choices are extremely limited on this board, you fairly a lot will need QVL RAM only, don't even believe about working with anything that is not listed by component# on the QVL (Qualified Vendors List)

This motherboard/processor is good. This is most likely the greatest Atom steup there is. Can't manage TONS of processing, but that is to be anticipated. I am presently running Ubuntu ten.04 32-bit on it. Everything installed perfectly. My greatest suggestion is to use XBMC for video playback. I've tried tons of apps to run video and XBMC is the only a single that has totally no glitches.

Finding a 2GB stick of RAM that would work is a discomfort, fortunately I identified one that performs (KVR800D3S8S6ǘG). Plays 720p perfectly, but struggles a lot with 1080p. It's not incredibly rapid, but it does what it meant to do incredibly effectively.

This is a gorgeous seeking board. I installed XBMC on this over a mini 64 bit maverick meerkat set up on a flash drive with 2gb ram. It plays 720p on my 50" plasma no dilemma. When I ran a full version of Ubuntu x64, the video was extremely choppy in VLC, this may be due to my restricted understanding of Linux although. It is functioning completely for my wants right now. I will update this post right after adding a tuner card. I wanted to run this without a fan, but that does not appear like a good notion, the board will produce very a lot of heat. I had a actual challenging time acquiring the HDMI audio to perform on this point, but that is genuinely and operator problem, not any fault of the board. I would propose this for a good tiny media center box. This is my 1st htcp make, so there is little for me to evaluate it as well though, from other comments on other boards, you could be capable to invest less for one thing that will create similar outcomes.

Nvidia has great driver assistance for both Windows and Linux. A single of the quicker clocked Atom processors at 1.8GhzTons of characteristics for this small board! Hardware SATA RAID not accessible. two SATA channels and that's it. Reputation for becoming picky with memory. Passive cooling might not be adequate. In Linux the HDMI video performs fine, and with the most current ALSA and Nvidia drivers HDMI audio operates fine as effectively (after unmuting the Nvidia digital out channels) - at least with kernel two.6.35 I haven't attempted any other people. I have a single slow spinning 120mm fan in the case which is mainly above the heatsink and the cpu temp doesn't rise above 38C, gpu doesn't get above 42C so far. I don't know if it can be purely passively cooled, but it can be incredibly quiet.Booting off USB wasn't obvious, like one more said you have to choose a boot device with F8.Flash ten.1 in Windows is wonderful with this board, since it utilizes the GPU's hardware acceleration.I am working with this board as both a file server and HTPC, and it does a amazing job.

Maybe later I'll acquire some 2x 2gb sticks. It feels a tiny slow navigating about windows compared to my 980x, but it gets the job performed.Idle watt meter says 35watts. watching a 1080p video goes up to 40watts. I have a Noctura fan on top rated of the heat sink and I get about 35c for the CPU and when watching 1080p the GPU gets to about 40c. Very good. only operates with like 1 normally located ram module At 1st when I was watching 1080p it was very laggy. That was until I discovered about "DXVA (bitstream acceleration over the GPU)". It's a entire new planet for me dealing with a low functionality CPU but higher overall performance GPU. Requires a unique method. AT5IONNT-Ifour Gig Patriot PSD32G10662S (BIOS ASUS-0316.ROM)Corsair F60 SSDLG Blue Ray R/WQuite Rapid. With SSD this motherboard could make a excellent desktop/light gaming machine. Has run everything thrown at it so far.Existing machine build doesn't have a Blue Ray compliant monitor; plays 1080p files off the HD and playback was ideal. This board is at present installed in a significant tower case with the side off, and 2 active fans plus the PS fans.averages 62C CPU and 50C GPU; NO direct airflow into the Heat pipe. BIOS update is incredibly uncomplicated.Very low energy consumption. UPS and machine with 600W provide at present draw 60Watts. Will convert to 12V external supply and remove UPS and internal provide. Anticipate power specifications to be about 40Watts with SATA Optical. Stupid memory problem. Bought this board from a nearby vendor, and the only SODIMMs they had on hand. Can confirm that New Eggs Kinsington KVR800D3S8S6ǘG works. As Noted above, other memory did perform right after BIOS update to newest version.Device Manager shows SM Bus Driver situation. Have not been capable to establish what wants to be carried out to appropriate this. This machine is Truly Rapidly with a SSD. Why is this a con? Effectively, it is more rapidly then the older desktop and it is not clear that this motherboard will make it into an HTPC case as originally planned. Doesn't like Logitech's XP64 Blue Tooth drivers, think this is a software concern at this time.I'd obtain an additional one of these if I didn't want far more SATA ports; on the other hand, that would require much more energy. This machine is more rapidly then many desktops it is hard to keep in perspective that it does what it was created to do. This is not a significant gaming machine, and was under no circumstances meant to be; but it is really tempting to purchase an additional one of these as a most important machine ran off of solar due to the low power.New Egg ROCKS! The Kinsington Ram was here early the next day with overnight shipping and rush delivery!

I can not provide you a rating of this board's overall performance, as I am reporting on the incorrect inclusion of WiFi in the originally posted Specifications listing as identified in the board's manual from the ASUS web site. The board might execute perfectly fine beyond this incorrect information. The original Specifications list posted on the NewEgg item page for this motherboard incorrectly indicates that 802.11n WiFi is integrated. Only the DELUXE version of this board is so equipped. The original Specifications listing for this board incorrectly indicates constructed-in 802.11n WiFi. ONLY the DELUXE version of this board has WiFi included with the motherboard, as a miniPCI card. This board does not have the essential miniPCI slot, as noticed in the overhead view. If it existed, it would be discovered in the blank location behind the PCI-e x4 slot, in between the bottom edge of the image and the substantial blue heat sink. You can see the two undrilled mounting holes and the solder points for the missing miniPCI slot on this board. Also, the external antenna connector and external power supply connector offered on the rear panel in the Deluxe version are excluded on this board. You will will need a PCI-e WiFi card or an external USB adapter to add 802.11 WiFi to this motherboard.
