The 11-11-11-28 timings are not what I'm used to with DDR3-1600 memory. I generally use 9-9-9-24 or better but DDR3 prices are still double of what I am comfortable paying (cheapo). Anyway, when Pm'd these were the cheapest 8GB set that I could get so I might as well give them a try.The heatsink material is still thin aluminum (much thinner material than the sinks on the the corsair LP, however, I don't really see any advantage to having any heatsinks especially if the RAM will remain at default speeds.The LED are actually inserted in the "fins" of the heatsink. I've seen several configurations in youtube where the LED light up with a unique pattern. The ones I got simple lights up the entire "bar" alternating between the 1st and 2nd module. It's bright enough to be noticed but not too bright to be annoying. There is no way to control the lighting pattern. I am not too fond of the blister packaging that it came with.(I would have preferred a cardboard box or a completely plastic reusable clamshell packging, despite that, these came extremely well protected. The heatsink material is still covered with an additional think plastic film (to prevent scuffs) that needs to be removed prior to use and the RAM fingers or contacts have a strong plastic protector - similar to the pci slot protectors on most video cardsSeveral reviewers had DOA reviews so I tested them prior to installation. Exhaustive windows memory diagnostics did not show any problems.

I gave this product 3 stars because I have used this brand before without any issue, however this time I received one stick DOA. It lit up, but that was as far as it went. My main complaint is that, although I received a defective item, I am required to pay for return shipping. I didn't dock stars for that because it is not regarding the item itself.

I bought this memory because it was cheap and I wanted the white LEDs. It was my first build with a side window so I wanted something to look at. I wasn't disappointed. Simple but cool LED effect. The performance was good and the memory passed the memtest86 test.

Comment:
The RAM was everything that I expected. White LED's are nice to look at if you have an open case design. Ram has no compatibility issues so far. Can't speak about the reliability of this product but hey it's RAM.
