The software that came with it was very easy to install, although you do not have to install the software to use the UPS. I consider the APC UPS units to be the best on the market. I have used them for over 20 years, and recommend them to all my friends.

APC BE550G 550VA UPS I have used battery backups for years and have found them to be worth it. Power always fails while you are doing something important. this one was tested 2 days after I installed it when our power went out for 10 minutes. It still had lots of power when the lights came back on and I continued to work using the backup. Will get one to protect my LAN and Router.

APC BE550G 550VA UPS These are always on sale somewhere, which makes them an excellent deal. I have three at home; one dedicated to my internet; one to my PVR; and one on the backup server. The first one I bought is at least four years old now, but the battery is still going strong. This unit works out-of-the-box with Linux, including the ability to shut down the servers during a power failure when the battery is almost exhausted. This is a must-have feature for me. I bought the Energizer clone of this product once. It didn't work properly with Linux, the Windows software was unreliable, and about six months after I bought it it started randomly turning itself off. I ended up replacing it with this APC model.

APC BE550G 550VA UPS I bought one of these to safeguard my cordless phone, wireless router and DSL modem. When the power goes out, my cordless phone still works; and when the Internet cuts out, I'm back up and running right away when it comes back without having to turn each network device off and then back on one at a time. I have a separate, larger UPS in another room for my computer, monitor and peripherals. I went so long without protection; but these prices make it affordable for everyone now.

I had to replace it due to having built 2 new computers from their parts and required higher protection than the previous UPS could support safely. they ship fast, has excellant prices. I'm very pleased!

APC BE550G 550VA UPS This is second APC, I trust it's quality, reliability and wouldn't buy any other brand. It takes just a few minutes to hook-up and your completely protected.. After the battery on my APC 500 needed to be replaced, it cost about as much as the APC 550 unit. So it was a no brainer to upgrade to this unit, with an extra bonus of two additional plugs my old unit didn't have. I experience power surges or loss of power often. As a webmaster having a battery back-up has been invaluable. I don't loose updates I was working on, due to brief power surge. It's better than a surge protector, which doesn't protect computer or other electronic components connected to it from getting fried from a lightning strike. I highly recommend APC, they're the best units on the market and price was the best any where else and APC UPS units are worth every penny.

APC BE550G 550VA UPS I've only had it for 1.5 mo, so I can't give it 5's just yet. I never play with the software because there is no need, but it has a few features if you want. Easy to install, Easy to use. In the eventual death of the battery, you can buy a new battery for cheaper than a total replacement. I like it. I would definitely recommend this to someone.

APC BE550G 550VA UPS This UPS works great. Moved into a new condo and the power is not very stable. This protects a computer, cable modem and wireless router with ease. The price here is ok, but I saw it at a big chain store for the same total price a couple days later comparing tax shipping and everything. I may as well have bought it there and had it that day. It makes a strong clicking sound when the power fluctuates, but it's not too obnoxious in a home office setting. I haven't heard it beep yet, despite the fact that it clicks to battery power at least once per day, so it doesn't beep at random times like some cheaper UPS devices, which is nice.

If you value your investment, no desktop computer should be running without one, because all it takes is just one power outage, or even a bad power surge for something to get fried. For little more than the price of a good power bar, you can enjoy all the features that only a UPS can offer.
